Orchid Mania

Ok .. so why buy this great orchid "food" and spritzer bottle just for one iddy biddy baby ?
Wouldn't it like some company ? .. If I test drive two, wouldn't it be more sensible ?
Then I could find out if it is really me that makes the mistakes if two "show" me rather than all the stress one plant has to go through to teach me right from wrong.
I have to admit I have been bitten by the orchid bug. This is another "Phalaenopsis" just another colour scheme. I think they compliment each other and I have a thing for these copper looking pots .. they aren't really copper but I can pretend.
So now I have "Orchid Food" from Schultz .. and a mister bottle with measurements on the side .. heaven knows I'll probably misunderstand the amounts even with that to help me with.
I'm going to do my best though .. for now .. good grief .. I hope I don't neglect these babies when my garden comes alive and I am knee deep in projects ...

I've never grown orchids. Maybe someday? Yours are pretty!

Where is the measuring thing and misting tool? Don't you have to give them distilled water too? You are a patient person if you love Orchids. I don't own a single house plant. I might get some for my new home. Those are pretty planters and beautiful orchids. I like that blue piece in the middle. What is that called?

Hi Anna (You again ? haha)
I just got these .. I am a total orchid virgin so this is all NEW to me ..
I bought the orchid food .. a good ? misting bottle .. and we drink bottled spring water .. so I will use that to mix the food in for them ..
I have no idea how I will do with these .. but I am going to give it a try !

The blue pottery .. Delft (ginger jar) when we lived in the Netherlands I collected as much as I could .. I love it too !

Hi Connie .. I never thought I would try orchids .. I thought I would kill them too fast ? .. but with this long locked in winter .. I am desperate for plants ? LOL

Uh huh. I know this one. It all starts out with *one* plant...then another...then before you know it you're a fullblown addict. They're lovely, Joy, absolutely gorgeous. I was deeply, DEEPLY tempted yesterday when I went back to the garden centre that just brought in a huge selection of houseplants, including a pile of exotically coloured phaels.I resisted, because it was so cold and I didn't want to chill a new plant getting it to and from the car. But when the wind drops and the weather warms up, we BOTH know what's gonna happen.
By the way, Joy, I am working on a post about cats and plants (poisonous or otherwise) for tonight or tomorrow, and plan to link to your post of Sophie with the plastic plant, as well as some useful sites about which plants ARE toxic and how to keep our feline furballs away from our plants.
Happy Easter to you and yours, Joy. cheers from jodi in really cold and windy NS.

Thanks for leaving a comment at my Garden Wise Guy blog. You NAILED it right on the head with the idea of black Mondo grass. That would have been the icing on the cake. I'll have to put that into my bag of tricks for another design.

Speaking of black-leave plants, in the landscaping around the interminable line at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, they have a bed with nothing but black leaf plants. Goes with the cemetery theme. How much fun is THAT?

Hello Wiseguy (love that name )
I would love to see that "black" garden around the Haunted Mansion : ) .. too cool !
I am a Halloween freak I have to confess .. love the unusual very much.
I'm going to try the Black Mondo Grass if it is around here at all when the season starts .. I agree that combo would be awesome .. LOL

Hi Jodi
Girl .. you nailed it on the head .. I did tell hubby I would go one full year without buying another orchid, to make sure I am not going to kill them .. does that sound like self restraint or what ? haha
That is a great idea Jodi .. there are so many cat owners that would like to have that kind of information at hand .. I am VERY lucky with Sophie though .. she isn't interested .. and all of them are well out of her reach for the most part.
Yes .. we DO know what will happen when we get some decent weather !
I know N.S. Springs take a long time coming .. but heck .. you get that awesome beauty of it all by the sea .. I will miss that forever.
Don't forget to REST up Jodi !
Have a great weekend too.

These are beautiful. We've tried before, but have never been able to keep them alive with the temperature fluctuations.

Hi byrningbunny .. this is going to be tricky for me too .. I'm hoping if I keep them alive for one year .. I might just be able to get another one ? haha
