Ostrich Plume Astilbe

If I had known how many responses I was going to get with my astilbe post I would have dug out all of my own pictures and went on and on like a proud parent ... wiseacre http://wiseacre-gardens.com/wordpress/ responded like another proud parent talking about how he enjoys them as well ! .. so then I had to go on about all the types I had and how much I loved them .. but I had to enclose addresses of off site pictures so if someone reads about them they can see what they look like ..
But .. this is MY Ostrich Plume astilbe from a few years ago .. next to a meadow rue from hell that seeded itself like crazy .. another story .. but this baby .. is mine and I loved it .. I refreshed the area with another one to perk it up again .. this is unique because of the drooping habit of the flower .. most others are upright .. nice effect !

Joy - For years, I had a clump of this astilbe, mixed in with ferns and other moisture-loving specimens, around a birdbath in a shady nook. It was a happy camper and really brightened up the area.

Interesting to note that it appears on many deer-resistant plant lists, as well. Many east coast gardeners have to compete with the deer population.

Your photo certainly does justice to this 2-3' tall beauty... Deb

Hi Deb ! .. Thanks ! .. it must taste awful to deer then I suspect ? When that corner is up and running with all the Japanese ferns I have there .. I have my fingers crossed it will look really good ! .. I don't know what it is .. but those types of plantings in that shade enviroment .. it is so calming .. If I was forced to pick a light value garden .. I'm afraid I would have to choose shade .. it cools your body and mind .. heaven knows I NEED that !! LOL

Ok I put up the list you pestered me over. While you were out assimilating I slaved over a hot keyboard. Any typos are Stinky's doing.
