Dicentra but what cultivar ?

This was one of the first fern leaf ? dicentra that I planted years ago in pretty much clay soil. It seems to love it there .. I wish I could divide it, but I have a HUGE piece of very heavy driftwood placed just right, in amongst lots of different woodland type plants .. anyone else do something a little foolish like this and later regret staging it so well ?

Duh, oh no, not me, no way I'd never do something as silly as that, nope, not ever.

Well, it looks quite happy in it's home.... How big is the wood? I've done many things I regret in my yard if it makes you feel any better....

Let me count the mistakes I have made...plants that have huge taproots that don't want to be moved but need to be moved over just a foot or so!

All the time! I used to do that with boulders and even a fountain--but I can't move anything anymore so I have to leave it where it is--or wait for the landscape guys when they come to trim trees. If I can get them to understand (they only speak Spanish--or pretend to) I get them to move stuff occasionally.
The fern looks wonderful in front of the driftwood!

I keep doing thing i regret all the time! So I plant, and dig up, and re-plant again... That's gardening, isn't it?

Someone's been a busy little bee...look at all those treats you left for us...first the adorable furballs, then the little velvety mouse ears, and now this... I've never seen such a lovely Dicentra foliage... can't wait for the flowers. And yes, I too have my fair share of foolish deeds ...but let's not go there.

Violet .. I would find it hard to believe a gardener who didn't make OOPS ! haha .. yes .. I try to get as much done when the weather is decent .. we are in for cooler weather and rain which is a good thing here .. so lots of pictures when I can manage it !

Katarina .. we are all in the same boat .. try and try again until that plant looks just right ? LOL

Aiyana .. that must e kind of cute .. explaining what you need done and not knowing how much the guys really get and pretend not to get ? .. Yes, driftwood and I have a constant love affair going on .. and yes .. some plants are included too ? haha

Gail .. it is always the "tap root" guys that seem to be needing a little adjustment ? .. me too ! : )

Hi Joy, don't even get me started about the mistakes I have made inside and outside of this house. The dicentra is beautiful.

Debbie .. if we made a list of them (mistakes) would it be as long as Santa's ? LOL .. boy, things like that sure make us shake our heads at times .. : )

Go ahead and dig it up for dividing. Our regular dicentra was so vigorous it took over the area it was planted in and crowded out the other plants. I dug it out to actually throw it out but decided to not waste the $10 or so we paid for it so I just stuck it in a waste spot in our garden where we hardly frequented. Despite it being hot and almost in full sun, you guessed it the bleeding heart is thriving. I also must not have dug up all the roots because new plants emerged where I dug out the old plant. It look delicate but this is one tough customer. One caveat though, I don't know if yours is more like the 'dutchman's britches', Dicentra cucullaria or squirrel corn, Dicentra canadensis, which I don't know the growth habit of so don't divide it until you seek information. I would hate to have given advice only to find out it killed your plant.

It looks like a varient of formosa. But I can't tell one from another without a scorecard.

Try planting mint in the vegetable garden and see how foolish you look. I know my wife did it but she wins 99 out of 10 arguments so I'm stuck taking the rap.

Hi Ki
You have some beautiful pictures on your blog !
I have that anemone as well and it is a gorgeous little thing.
I think the bleeding heart is a Dicentra 'Luxuriant' .. I would love to have the yellow Dutchman's Breetchs ? (spelling).. but I think this one would be fine for dividing but it is in such a tricky place to get digging in .. I'll see what I can do while I still have some time though.
Thanks for stopping by my blog !

Wiseacre .. Too funny ! ... looks like you keep a score board for arguments and Bleeding Hearts ?
I love the planting of mint in a veggie garden LOL ! .. hey .. mint is a great thing to have .. in a pot ... with chains on ... and a wall around it ? haha
I think this is Dicentra 'Luxuriant' .. but you are right .. it is darn hard to tell the difference with some of these .. i might try and snatch a section of it while it is NOT looking ? : )
9 out of 10 ... pretty darn good !
