Fast ... SCARY Clouds

Just as I was sitting here in my office (aka .. yes .. kitchen .. sigh !) .. the sky went SCARY with such dark fast moving clouds I was sure it would be a repeat of last year's hail downpour .. and by some strange fluke hubby was down at the neighbor's house (same thing last year) discussing fishing with said friend .. well , being the nutter that I am .. I grabbed my camera and started shooting these unbelievable clouds. They just moved in so quickly and thankfully out almost as quickly with no hail or even a drop of rain. "lake affect" is bandied about by our weather people more in winter than during this time of year .. but I bet the other side of Lake Ontario had some crazy action going on !

Great shots of scary skies Joy.

We've had some similar stormy skies around here lately, but things have settled down for the next few days.

We had those scary clouds pass over too ... right at recess time ... and I was on yard duty!! We heard a couple of claps of thunder but not rain. About half hour later the hydro flashed on and off, but still no rain. Thank goodness that hail didn't come our way. It was shown on the news on the other side of Toronto.

That is a sky with a purpose! We here in Sask learned a leason this past weekend.Always wait till all the clouds move away after a thunderstom before going out to clean up the mess it leaves.Young man and his mom were cleaning the yard and were struck by lightening. They thought the storm was finished.Skies like your's...might keep that in mind. Not meaning to be barer of gloom and doom, just wanting you to be safe and others.Have a wonderful day.I have a question. How did you ever get your cats to hold still long enough to get a such good pictures?I take out the camera and poof...mine are gone!LOL.

bjb .. I read about that terrible incident .. what a freak occurance , so sad for the family.
I never take the skies for granted here since last year. The weather is totally unpredictable and dangerous.
Usually my girls are kind of sleepy during photo time .. I think that may be the secret ? LOL

Crafty .. the weather is truly scary around the Toronto area .. I have a friend in Oakville that has had bad thunderstorms when we have had it blowing away from us. We are lucky with our hydro .. very rare for it to go off.

Thanks garden girl .. it was so dramatic and fascinating I couldn't help but grab the camera.
Makes you shiver a bit though ? LOL

Oakville has had clouds like this too - pretty frightening! I think we had some hail Sunday. Tons and tons of rain - my pots are overflowing with water and some of the plants have rotted!!! And yes, Joy, the pots do have drainage holes but could not keep up with the water.

Hey Rose .. I was just going to drop an e-mail to you .. I'm so jealous you found Tiki Torch Echinacea girl ..
I would never think you didn't have drainage holes .. but I have one low profile one from C.T. that doesn't have any and same thing happened to me .. note to self .. put drain holes in THAT one ! haha

These look like great shots for Skywatch Friday! Have you checked in on Tom at http://womtigley.blogspot.com ? Or just do a search for Skywatch Friday and it will come up at, or near, the top.

Thanks Nancy .. it happened so quickly I was snapping away. The wind drove them out very fast to the other side of the lake .. but it looked bad for a bit .. no hail though phew !

Jane Marie thanks ! .. I wondered about that one .. I'll have a look see. I love pictures of the sky .. the moon last night was amazing for some reason .. my camera is not good enough to get a detailed picture of that, but wow ! it iwas BIG : )

Thank you PG ! .. they were scary at the time. They formed so quickly and were so dark I thought we were going to have a hail storm like last year, but thankfully it didn't happen .. funny how you grab a camera without thinking ? LOL

Thanks Karen .. it was something to see when it happened so fast .. creepy but fascinating ? haha
