Everyone Needs a Little Fern in Thier Lives !

I seriously can't imagine a garden without a shady nook some where. In that nook I really can't imagine not having just "A" fern, but "as many as you can cram in" number of ferns, (let them duke it out amongst themselves for personal space?) .. I have a variety of Japanese Painted ferns .. Korean Rock ferns from this past Spring's buying spree .. I think a few mystery ferns made their way in too .. but it is all good !

I adore ferns. I have a large mass of Japanese Painted & this year I added Autumn Fern which is pretty too. Yours seem to be happily mingling amongst themselves. :)

Thanks for your lovely pics! I am searching thru several gardening blogs, and happily stumbled onto yours. Will bookmark it, with the others I intend to return to.

Thanks Gail ... they are still "babies" yet .. but in my mind's eye I can see luch FULL ones looking wonderful : )

Hello there anonymous ! ... thank you for stopping by ! .. glad to be entertaining : )

PGL I have Autumn ferns too .. some "Brillance" cultivars and they are gorgeous .. but seem to be picky some years .. I have had them disappear and then reappear with a couple of years in-between !
Japanese Painted are great : ) Japanese Beech fern is one you should see .. great form and not timid !

I leave the ferns to the 'wild' places. I'm surrounded and keep getting advance forces infiltrating my perimeter.

The garden varieties are nice and those painted ferns almost make me want to add some to the shade garden. But I'm fernly stuck on plants that flower :)

That's a beautiful planting. I wouldn't have thought of mixing different types together, but it looks great. I haven't been able to keep Japanese painted ferns alive in my yard, but I'd like to try again.

Hi Megan .. I have a soft spot for these types of ferns .. and I thought a few different cultivars would look rather eye catching in my shady nook .. maybe your ferns got a bit too dry or a bit toomuch sun ? Hope you try again .. they really are lovely !

Dear Mr. WiseA** .. I just visited your place (and you could use some of these Japanese ferns !!) haha
Your new format is looking very good .. and those flower pictures are so clear and vibrant .. you take stunning pictures and I am jealous ? LOL
I am on a mission about the fernly position you have taken sir ! : )

I'm not sure about the new layout yet. and I hope you find the pics stunning after I shelled out $400 for a new camera. So don't get jealous - you buy a new camera and I'll buy a couple ferns :)

Now when are you going to tell us the Saga of the Bed Spring ?

Dear Mr. WiseA** .. I bought a new camera last winter .. technically does that initiate you having to buy a fern retrodated last winter ?
What brand of camera did you buy because those pictures are great !
The bed spring thing .. I was horribly gashed by a rouge spring that must have been in hiding for a while .. the domino affect was a stounding .. not only two new mattress sets .. but two new bedroom furniture sets happened in the fall out .. now how is that for being a "woman" with a mission ? LOL

Just looking at the ferns makes me feel cooler ... Wish I had somewhere shady to grow them.

Hi Sue ! .. I have more and more shade happening with the maple getting so big .. I have to admit it is a relief in the summers we have with Kingston ..
Keep thinking shady nook Sue ! it might just happen ? LOL

So beautiful, Joy! Ferns need better press. People think of them as fussy, probably because they've failed with them as houseplants. They are such fantastic garden plants!!!

'ben" .. I think you are spot on with that ! .. I failed with them as house plants too .. but I had a special place in my heart for ferns in the woods since I was a kid .. I fell head over heels in love with them and never forgot that wonderful fresh clean scent .. My "Log" fern after about 5 years has really come into its own .. it is BIG and beautiful this year .. now if I can get the rest of that area looking as good ? haha
