It's ALIVE !!

A few weeks back I went through a lot of angst about chopping back and moving my Nanho Blue buddleia ... it just stuck in my mind I had to do it then and there or it would be on my "to do list" forever .. basically when you feel you should do something then and there .. trust your instincts ... most of the time ? So I chopped my beauty back and found it a more spacious home in the wake of yanking out an aphid holiday home. I watered it faithfully and kept my fingers crossed.
I know this doesn't mean it will be sailing through winter now that it has set it's roots well enough to push out new leaves .. but it is one of the hardier cultivars and with this show of greenery .. well .. I'm hoping this is a great sign it is happy where I plunked it !

I'm sure it will last through winter, it seems to be doing just fine!

It looks like it will do well in the new location. Perhaps giving it some extra protection over winter, like mounding leaves or straw around it will help it survive. I'm sure it will be a much bigger and better plant next year from the major "haircut and transplant" you gave it.

Hi Crafty .. I usually mound up special plants .. so extra mulch will certainly hit the spot ? LOL .. Yes .. sometimes a major shake up will knock the plant into great growth .. hope so ! I did it to a mature Russian Sage as well and it has put on new growth so I think it is alive too : )

Hi Katarina .. I think it is going to be OK too now ! .. I'll be so curious , watching it for signs of life again next Spring : )

If it has that much growth, it likely will be fine. I'll be glad when mine gets bigger. And hope I don't have to relocate it due to where it currently is.

Brenda .. has there been a picture of yours on your site ? what kind is it ? .. I thought this one would be fine too but it really grew trememdously this year and it needed more stretching room. There are smaller ones now .. I think plant breeders are taking smaller gardens more seriously finally ?

I have a white one that gets monstrous each year. I chop mine back in the fall to about 12-18" from the ground. My cat gets mad because that is his place to lay in the shade. LOL It should be fine Joy, Butterfly Bush is pretty hardy.

Perennialgardener .. it was a tricky call but I had to do it .. so seeing this new growth makes it easier ... on me ? LOL
Your poor kitty .. haha

Joy, That is great news...will you pile lots of leaves and mulch around it to help it through the winter? You have such a different winter then we have...it is hard for me to imagine snow anymore...it has been over 30 yrs since I lived in Missouri. gail

Hi Gail : )
Yup ! I will make sure it has extra mulch as with some of the more "iffy" plants. Wow ! .. to have no winter is an odd thought .. I could do with a shorter one but I still love to have a bit of snowfor Xmas .. and it does help protect the plants .. that long without snow though ..wow again ! haha
