The View of Wild Turkeys

We live in the area called "The Thousand Lakes" .. there are lots and lots of lakes ? But there are also lots of "wetland" areas that are very pretty. The thing that got me a little crazy with picture taking that day was that some looked gorgeous and crystal clear with a great blue sky .. but others had a muddy look to them .. was it the sun being too bright perhaps. In any case we enjoyed the drive and the scenery.
Hubby spotted the wild turkeys as he was driving .. I was supposed to be look out for potentially good pictures and I had missed them .. so we turned around and I shot this from quite a distance ..
These guys are too funny and VERY jittery ... who can blame them with hunting season either happening now, or soon ... and the fact we were going to have out "Turkey Day" next weekend !
I think that must be the "Tom" turkey telling the girls where to go ? .. obviously he never met a menopausal female turkey ????

Can you see the lily pads under the water ?

I love these "alien' pods : ) I think I helped spread this plant all over the place as a kid. It was so interesting to open them up and blow the 'silk" seeds around in the wind. We found such happiness doing so simple things as kids back then ..

We used to call these shredded wheat wheels .. but as in a breakfast cereal .. they look so neat and tidy .. then when some of them are covered in that plastic jacket thing .. wow ! Good Housekeeping award ! haha

Enjoyed this post that looks much like where we live and have our lake house (which is on the turkey trot, often spotted 50 heading across the lawn). Have been meaning to visit for ages and so glad I did!

Hi Joey .. Now that is a perfect name for a place ! .. these are such funny birds .. I have never seen them this way , in a group and they like single file trotting : )

Nancy .. if hubby hadn't spotted them we would have driven by clueless that they were there .. my observation powers are not that great ? haha

Hi Darlene ... It makes for a nice slide into October to start out like this on my favorite month : )

I love your pictures! Thank you for sharing them with the world. I have been out snapping pictures like a mad fool. Trying to find just the "right one". And low and behold...I find it on your site! LOL. You live in a very lovely spot in Canada. An old woman down the street said fall is when God shows off his gardening talents. I think she is right! Have a wonderful "Turkey Day"...that is when it gets here.

Love these evocative fall photos and reflections, Joy! I know what you mean about the milkweed pods. And I'm in awe of wild turkeys---we often see them on our rural peregrinations around here, and every single sighting is a revelation. Ben Franklin would be proud!

Hi Joy, Thanks for the real autumn photos. We are having faux autumn! It is 80+ degrees (26c). The nights are cool but the days are hot!
I love the Turkeys...odd birds aren't they?

See you layer!

Gail

Hi Gail .. turkeys are stange birds indeed ! I was so fascinated by them .. I didn't hear them make any noieses though .. that would have been great : ).. yup ! got the "layer" thing down pat girl LOL

'ben" it is a shame that motion was turned down to have the turkey as your national bird .. poor Ben F. but yes ! they are captivating to watch .. I'm amazed by all Autumn things ... it never grows old to me ; )

bjb .. hello there ! .. that is a wonderful saying .. I have to agree that it is spectacular here when Autumn behaves and shows off all of her talents for us. Ontario is truly gorgeous painted in wonderful colours : ) Thanks !

Lovely photos, Joy! Last year there were some wild turkeys on the loose in a local small city. There was quite a controversy over whether to hunt them down or just leave them alone. I don't know where they came from, but they were quite the "hot" topic of discussion in the paper and the city council meetings. Most of us just thought it was pretty funny: if that's the worst of our problems...

Rose ! what an issue to get all bothered by .. but they sound like our city council too .. small issues detract from the larger ones, so I think they get all happy about something like that. Hope the turkeys hightailed it out of town for their own sake ? LOL
