Snow Diamonds ......

I know .. I am pushing the snooze button here with my fascination of "snow diamonds". I'm so glad that I still see the magic of sparkly snow. I still don't know the science or mechanics of why we see these diamonds .. I just know that when I stop and look at this brilliant sight it makes me feel full of pleasure and wonder about how this all happens. This could be working up to "winter accumulation disorder" or in short "cabin fever" and severe "garden withdrawal" .. with months ahead of me. I prefer to think of it as the silver lining with winter. Seeing the sparklies for their beauty .. seeing the glass half full ? .. if you buy that, I have some land in Antarctica I am willing to part with for the right price : )

Nope .. just one of those moments that I grabbed the dust bunnies from between my ears and took a moment in time for myself and was totally in awe of mom 'nature" and the little treat she gives me while I am "Nanook of the Frozen North" ... hanging on for dear life till Spring pops in to thaw me out and let me loose in the garden .. for now I will hang on to my snow diamonds and count the seconds/hours/days/weeks/months .... aarrgghhh !!!

I went for a walk in the snow today, too. Wasn't it beautiful? I love the way the snow sparkles too - I think that the light has such an uplifting effect on the spirits. Much better than real diamonds, any day!

I have to visit blogs to see Snow Diamonds. Depending upon your perspective, I guess snow is good... for a short time.

Stay warm up there!

You are rich with all those diamonds, more wealthy than you realize.

Hey, how come your snow is so nice and clean, ours is all black, brown, wet and yucky?

Life is just a series of such moments, Joy. Joy-ful moments. I decided a long time ago to embrace winter and all its beauty, and I love it as much as any other season. Your snow diamonds are beautiful, and I'm so glad you took the time to see them. Beauty is all around us, in every season, if we choose to see it. :-)

I think I see a little penguin waving its flipper at us from the top of that hill in the first photo. He's about to do a belly dive down that wonderful snow hill. Are you going to join him?

Joy,

I'm with ya on the diamond thing- I was wishing I had a better camera to capture what I was seeing when that snow hit before Christmas!

Hi Amanda .. Don't you just love that crunchy sound from walking on this type of snow too ? .. it can be so pretty it amazes me : )

Lynn .. some wicked weather systems are moving in to quite a few areas .. the extreme cold warning will be flashing as well .. good thing we have practice with this type of weather ? LOL

Tina .. it makes you stop and look .. I can't understand the people that never take that little bit of time to see this gorgeous reflection ! : )

Ahhhhhh ! Deb .... are you in a hurry ? a two word hurry ? Girl .. stop a while .. try 3 words ?? LOL

Hi Cameron .. Yup ! all you southerners are more than welcome to enjoy our snow here .. and another YUP ! to staying warm and fuzzy ? LOL

Cindee .. I think we should start a movement to call colds etc .. in the winter .. officially WINTER CRUD ! .. thank you I am feeling better .. hope you hubby can whip that crud out of his system quickly girl ! : )

Jen .. 'cause your snow isn't at home there .. it doesn't know how to behave ! haha
Don't worry our snow will slide into that mode in a few more months : )

Nancy .. that is so true girl !
I am so grateful to see these small wonders .. I can't imagine not seeing them in fact .. how sad life would be without them : )

Thank you Gail .. Nanook is in warm fuzzy nightware and keeping indoors for a while ! LOL

Hello Cat ! Thank you for stopping by girl : ) glad to have Katarina for a reference point : )

NS ! .. you are the only one that saw that silly little guy : ) .. and what a belly dive he did, sadly I regretfully had to decline his invitation .. the last dregs of the dreaded crud/cold still making me blah !!! haha

Tessa .. isn't that the way about so many things we wished we could have caught on our camera ? .. it makes me crazy when that happens .. DRATS !!

Joy,
I have a fascination with all things that sparkle, no snoozing here! Seeing those pictures makes me want to run out there and just bury my face in the snow. That would wake me up this morning. If I had all that snow, I would study up on how to make snow sculptures. I would have snow flowers snow trees and maybe even snow butterflies all over the yard.--Randy

Randy .. It is so nice to hear some one so enthusiastic about snow : )You are like a little kid again and that is so sweet!
I think if you have lived in this environment most of your life it may not be quite so amazing .. but you would see snow diamonds like I do for sure, I think you have that special 'switch" that goes on when you see the everyday beauty others pass by .. and that is a wonderful thing to have ! : )
PS .. Quebec, I think it is Quebec city in fact , that has snow/ice sculptures that are awesome .. they are further north than I am, so they have more opportunities ? LOL

Diamonds are a girl's best friend! Beautiful! Psst, don't tell anyone but... I miss snow. When I lived in WI I loved getting 2 ft of snow. I loved how people just embraced it and life kept right on going. My family is from the Caribbean--they all thougth I was just nuts when I picked WI for grad school. My first winter in WI we had a 3 wk stretch with temps in the -30 range plus windchills. I considered dropping out of grad school ;-) But then I discovered thermal underware!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Curmudgeon ! that is truly funny girl ! .. I don't mind the snow .. not even the freezing temps, but if it would only be a shorter period of time !!! .. Being away from the garden this long really makes it hard (you go nuts when you first get back into it .. over do it .. muscles scream .. it ain't a pretty sight !)
Diamonds and thermal underwear .. add chocolate to them and we have it made girl !! LOL

I must admit to not being the best orchid nurturer. But I have a friend who is amazing. She was a grower in another life.

I think that the best secret, is don't overwater them. Simple, and that's the best advice I ever got.

Give the poor things a try again.

I'm too snow deprived most years in Portland to even know about snow diamonds, how beautiful. This is one more reason to pray for snow. I hope I get another good snow this year so I can look for the diamonds.

Your snow diamonds are beautiful! I posted some recently as well to my Flickr acct and my blog. I'll send you an email with a couple of them so you can see and enjoy a few more.

I can feel your delight in how much you're enjoying those diamonds!

I'm glad you still 'see the magic of sparkling snow,' too. I never grow tired of it. :)

Well Joy, if you don't look at that glass as half-full, then you'll be forced to see it as half-empty! And who wants to do that? Ha! I always say rocks are my diamonds (stones), but I really like yours! They sparkle more than rocks do!

Hi Jen .. Funny enough , that is how I treated the rest of my houseplants, (little water) and they are fine .. but I thought orchids needed moisture and humidity .. bought a spritz bottle, orchid food .. the whole deal and they perished on me .. I'm "orchid SHY" now ! LOL

Megan .. I hope you get more snow too so you can see the diamonds .. they are well worth the waiting watch ! wink wink : )

Diane ! .. I really am too child like to believe about snow "gifts" the diamonds .. the flakes .. the way it falls some times .. the moonshine on it .. there are so many beautiful characteristics.
Thanks girl ! : )

Kate ! ... how are you girl ? .. a BIG yes to that .. I will always see snow diamonds .. my inner "kid" : )

Hi Brenda .. every type of 'diamond" shines in its own way .. I am also a big fan of rocks and love picking interesting ones over .. they may now sparkle like snow diamonds but they draw you in with their colours !

How fantastic! I am always in awe of snow; here in the "snow deprived" zone of north central Texas, we rarely see it.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Nola .. hope you are well. I have lived through this weather all my life but still .. if Spring would come just a little earlier, it would be great !! LOL

Pat said...

Yep, that looks like antarctica.
Where are the penguins ?
Does everyone stay home when the weather is really bad?
Ya know, like "snow days".

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Patsi .. you really cracked me up girl ! .. the penguins have special igloos in are gardens .. and those who can DO stay at home and wait for a few more degrees to climb on the thermometer ! haha
I'm still determined you see that series "Dead Like Me" .. there is actually a new one coming on HBO about a woman with multiple personalities .. Toni Collete ? can't spell her name .. in any case it looks good !

Mmmm so sparkly.
You are just doing this to make me feel extra deprived. I went and had a look in the freezer which needs defrosting so I feel better now (lol)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Easy ... you would be horrified to see my freezer girl .. so I try to just concentrate on these diamonds outside ? .. I'll send yo some if you like ?? LOL .. it would be pretty wet by the time it got to you though : )
