Hope Floats : )

While I was cutting back my Karley Rose grass .. I found a nest from last year. It was perfect in every way but for the fact the mother bird either deserted the nest or was killed. I felt terrible when I first found it .. I thought it was one for this year. But husband said no .. just look and feel .. it was dried perfectly.
I put my heart back in my chest .. phew ! ... I would have felt wretched if it had been interrupted by me.
My hope floated once again for my wonderful Sumac .. see the new buds ? I knew it wouldn't fail me .. but it always helps to see the evidence in a timely fashion ? Today the buds are even bigger ! Heat and rain has kicked it into high gear : )
My beautiful old fashioned daffodils that were transferred from the front garden to this little patch just a couple of weeks ago .. they look wonderful paired with this Spirea don't they ?

"Where in the world is .... Waldo ? ... aka Emma ???
What a haughty naughty cat she is ! .. Sophie is waiting to see what Emma will do next ?

The noise of drilling and sanding from the deck is great to know that they are working so hard and so fast to get it up for the weekend .. we might get some semblance of normality back in the garden .. I know .. "normal" and I are not partners !

Next will be my playhouse ... OK ... formally called the shed .. but .. I still think it is my play house !!

Oh, I'm glad to hear you have new buds on your Sumac! And the nest is a great find- sad they didn't make it though. Thanks for stopping by today. The tulips are Paul Scherer from Dutch (I think that is where I purchased them from anyway). They are almost black when you look at them outside. I love them!

This is the title to one of my favorite movies Joy, lol! Seriously though I'm glad things are starting to look up for you & the garden. Hope things are completely quickly for you & your kitties sakes. :)

I'll bet the girls are stressed out from the noise of all the construction. My furry babies don't like any disruption of their quiet little lives.

You have the most amazing sumac.
So happy to see your spring blooms.
Love daffodils and kitties.

Spring is the season of hope. For me, it's also bittersweet as well because so many of last year's experiments failed. Nobody can look at fat buds on your sumac and not feel hopeful!

Hi Tessa .. thank you girl ! I was so relieved to see those fat buds come out again : ) I love that bouquet of flowers you had and those tulips were awesome ! The only type of almost black was Queen of the Night but now I know there are more .. gorgeous selection !

Hi Tina .. Emma is very much like my beloved calico Molly .. she was fearless about jumping to the highest place possible ..Sophie has more sense staying closer to ground level ? LOL
Girl ... I can't wait to have the SHED !!! LOL

Racquel .. it is a perfect title to a lot that has gone on here .. I couldn't help borrowing it ?
Slowly but surely things will get back to .. better than normal ? : )

Nola you are so RIGHT ! .. we are unnerved as much as the girls are .. we are such quiet people .. renos are hard work to get through ? LOL

Patsi girl ! hello there : )
Thank you ! .. I'll be so glad when things get back to a regular routine .. me in the garden .. hubby on the lake or golf course .. and girls at the deck door WATCHING out for me ? LOL

WS .. My goodness I hope you didn't lose important ones to you .. but then again what plants aren't dear to us when we try so hard to keep them going ?
Thank you so much for your thoughts on my Sumac .. it is one of the dearest things to me in the garden .. it is my comfort pillow : )

To find an old preserved nest is a great find! Glad to see your sumac has buds, your cats are cute they seem to like heights. I had a cat when I was little and she was a russian blue, since this breed of cats are tiny she lived to be 24 years old and what a funny cat she was.

You seem to have much more of a sense of humor about your cat being up there than I would be.

The bird nest is so cool! What are you going to do with it?
I am glad the deck is making progress too(-:
The sumac is growing right a long!!
And...Kitty up there what is she thinking? Will you need to call the fire dept. to get her down?(-:

I would feel the same way you did about the nest Joy ~ thinking I had disturbed it. I wonder what bird built it and laid the eggs?? I hate when things go wrong in nature but it happens more often than not (it seems). Yay for the sumac and lol on your kitty. She is a great jumper to get way up there. My cat would love to figure out how to get on top of our TV armoire. So far, no luck! Crossing my fingers for you that your deck gets finished. Returning to "normal" would be great, wouldn't it??

I love the colour of your Spirea do you know the name?

HI Cathy .. it is a perfect little nest isn't it ? I wonder what type of bird built it .. probably a local finch perhaps. Emma has that stubborn curiosity for getting in places she shouldn't ? haha .. Sophie just watches her and figures something is going to happen. Russian Blue .. what gorgeous cats they are and to have one with a quirky personality too : )

Knittnkitten ! I have to have a sense of humour about it all, as long as they don't hurt themselves .. you can't train a cat like a dog .. sometimes you just have to let them do what they want and cross your fingers ? LOL

Hey Cindee .. too funny calling for help from the fire department eh ? .. I would like to keep the nest in the garden .. it is a true nature's decor piece isn't it ?
I had faith in my sumac but it also makes me breath easier seeing the buds come forth ! : )

Kathleen I swear my heart stopped when I saw it in the middle of the grass I was cutting back !
I'm so glad to see my Sumac "blossom" ? LOL .. and between the two cat kids, it will be Emma who gets herself into trouble doing things like this .. but heck .. I know they get up to trouble at night when we are sleeping ? LOL

Hello again gittan ! I think it is either Gold Flame or Gold Mound .. I have had it for some time and it still is beautiful to me : )

Hi joy, A beautifully preserved nest! I know about heart stopping bird encounters...A mama bluebird popped out of her house and made my heart jump when I got too close! Joy, it's so exciting to hear that construction is progressing! It is not an easy process for woman or cat! Oh, doesn't Emma have her 'haughty cat' look on! gail

I so want a playhouse/shed. I saw one on someone's blog and it had a little front porch. I explained the design to my honey and told him I have it on my wish list. I can't quite describe the look he gave me. *grin*

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Gail .. wouldn't it be too funny for some one to see us at those moments when we are so quietly intent on gardening that when something startles us we just about jump five feet off the ground with the heart stopping action ? haha .. did I say I found a poor dead mouse and almost had another heart attack ? One of the deck guys was kind enough to pick the poor little body up on a shovel and dispose of it elsewhere .. I felt bad for it and myself being the idiot that had a mini scream ? LOL .. YES .. we have gotten most of it up but the lattice work and stairs to go yet .. and of course it is raining ? : )
I know it will finish some time though .. right ?? Miss Emma in her element for sure !

Randy ... for a while I thought Spring was avoiding me for some reason ? : )

Hello Keewee .. that made me laugh about your hubby's "look" .. isn't it funny what things we pine away for that seem too simple yet unattainable for some weird reason .. I might even have window boxes with my playhouse ! wink wink

We'll soon be seeing photos of the new deck. I hope the rainy weather we've had doesn't delay it. I think playhouse is the perfect name for your new shed. I mean, kids have playhouses and we're just big kids right??? It's good to see your sumac starting to grow. Have a great day.

The rain really has jump started things around here. It even got me into my garden since I had to finish some clean up before it was too late.

Do you cats ever take out any of your plates on their fantastic leaps? What a face Emma has, she must have been loyalty in a former life.

Starting our deck this week. So sad about the bird eggs. Ahhh... Cats are so funny. Happy Mothers Day.

Hello Linda !
The deck is almost finished .. we sat on it for a little bit late afternoon .. but the back garden is a bomb site with no shed yet .. the shed won't start until the 18th since our handyman is booked up until then and yes ! I agree with the playhouse name .. in fact I might even get a plaque for it with "Joy's Garden House" how does that sound ? LOL

Dear Mr. WiseA** .. It has really greened things up for sure .. the trees are booming ? LOL .. I still have a few things to do too but access is limited by the stuff that should be in a shed ?? haha
I can't wait to get things sorted or pretty soon I'll be hitting the liquor cabinet ?? haha

Hello there FWPJ : )
I have been extremely lucky that Emma is one gracefully sure footed feline ! and I think you are too right about what she has been reincarnated from .. Feline Royalty for sure !! LOL

Brenda girl ! I haven't been by your place in a while .. I miss your pretty pictures, I better get over there and wish you a Happy Mother's Day too ! .. Yes .. cats are the strangest people aren't they ? : )

Glad to hear there is work on the deck! That nest is very sweet and perfectly preserved. Keep it for the shed. You know--the little house of treasures.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Anna ! Thank you girl .. and I wish I had put the nest in a bag or something .. I left it out (got distracted .. you know how that can be) and the other birds seemed to think it was free for the picking of ? .. but YES ! My little house of treasures is a great idea, thank you : )

A lovely post, Joy, and I cracked up to see Emma being a hover-cat. Our Simon Q does things like this too, only because he CAN!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hey there Jodi ! Thanks girl : )
I think Emma does it for the same reason .. and to tease Sophie too of course .. she is a bit chubby (good grief aren't we all ?) so she can't maneuver the way Emma does and I know it bothers her a bit Emma can get there .. KIDS !! LOL ..

What a beautiful nest, with such perfect pretty eggs. Glad your sumac is showing such resilience Joy - must get that from you! ;)

Hello there Linda ! Thank you girl .. yes that nest almost gave me a heart attack discovery it while shearing the grass .. it was beautiful : )

The bird's nest is picture perfect. WOW! I'd have had the same reaction as you and my Hubby would have had to do the same thing your husband did. Funny!

Hi Cindy ... I'm glad to have the company on how I reacted to finding this little jewel .. I felt kind of silly but that was my reaction .. glad to know you would have felt the same way girl ! haha
