Leaves, and what I do to them ?

I was amazed to find some black and white Halloween cards .. I knew they were out there some where, but "me" wondering around the net ... well talk about distractions galore ?
For some reason I think "Santa" in place of the pumpkin guy ... has to be that HAT right ?
Cute right ? Jollity ? is that a word I missed some how ?
Kids are always cute even in B & W ... well, kids on paper that is ??

So it was a dark and foggy morning ......

Even the birds had a hard time finding their way ...
I missed the "golden hour" on the way to an appointment ... there were the most beautiful trees in a wee bit of sunlight and I kicked myself for not bringing my camera to capture them ...
Now all we have is wind and rain and those leaves will most likely be off the trees before I get the pictures I so want.
But ... I found some pretty ones in my own back yard ..
OK ... some of these are my neighbors .. but they are mine once they fall on my soil .. right ?
One of those DUH ? moments happening in sequence with kicking myself about not having the camera .. I take these pictures on a shiny table with a strong over head light fixture to make it even more glaring ?
I had to play with the leaves of course ... can you see one BIG multi coloured Maple Leaf ???
One of the leaves has the dreaded ugly "black tar spot" so a little shuffling to cover the bad boy beauty mark was needed ...
Aren't they pretty ? I had a blast playing with them : ) I'm such a BIG KID !

Sumac, Maple and Dutchman's Pipe are mixed in all together .
I have to say this dark one with multi tones is a favorite .. but they are all beautiful and I got my fix for the day with these gorgeous leaves : )

Now hand over the Tim's and a coffee and I'll be so Canadian it ain't funny EH !!! ;-)

I love that rainy photo Joy - very moody. You found some really pretty leaf specimens in your yard. I like to play with them too - makes me feel like a kid again!

Looks like you had a great time playing with all those beautiful fall leaves. No signs of color here quite yet. :) Love the vintage Halloween cards, your favorite holiday will be here shortly. ;)

You seem to have as many Halloween cards as leaves. I like both too. I enjoyed seeing your leaf collection. I might get out there this weekend and gather some leaves to play along. It looks like fun.

hi, Just drop by from Blotanical.

Nice beautiful autumn leaves,
It would be nice to press them & make them into greeting cards, Or paint on them and use them as printing material to get various colours and shapes.
Have a nice Halloween.

The vintage cards are very cool. And the leaves are fabulous. You are a big kid! And you bring out the big kid in the rest of us. :)

Thanks Linda (I thought it was a good moody shot too LOL) I wish I had a BIG pile of them to kick around the yard .. then I am sure the neighbors would know I am a complete NUT ! haha

Hi Di .. I had so many ideas about what to do with these leaves .. a picture will come later on : )

Racquel girl .. I almost hate to see it coming so quickly now .. I wanted to stretch this month out as long as possible .. the weather was crappy and I have no spectacular tree colour pictures .. darn !!

Lisa .. you need a leaf "fix" girl ... it is wonderful therapy for what ever ails you this month : ) Plus get some cards from the dollar store and drive people batty with cards (my personal favorite !!) haha

Thank you Urban Green .. do leaves ever "colour" up in your part of the world I wonder ?

Hello there James Missier !
YES ! .. actually I meant to take a picture of them as I put them in my flower press lit .. it is only a small one but it should do the job (it was meant for my roses originally) .. I'm hoping to keep these leaves forever ? LOL

Cindee girl I just don't know where my head was that morning .. I knew there was a possibility of a bit of sun and some trees but you know what it is like with a doctor appointment .. your mind is preoccupied .. and in DUH ? land?

Hi there Grace ... that is my mission in life .. bring out the kid in us some times forgetful adults .. have some fun with the smaller but so enjoyable things in life : )

Beautiful leaves for sure. Just love them all. We don't have so much colorful leaves down here. The misty shot is great-perfect for Halloween.

LOVE the black-and-white cards, Joy! I never saw any either. And I collect and press leaves every single fall. My all-time favorites are the fabulous 'Aconitifolium' Japanese maple leaves, which are just flaming up now in the front yard. But there are so many great ones! I like to use them in autumn arrangements and to decorate Christmas packages. And yes, I loved that misty deck shot, too!---Silence

Looks like you had lots of fun playing in the leaves, Joy! Last year I collected lots of pretty ones and ironed waxed paper over them to use for a table decoration at Halloween--fun for me and for the grandkids:)

I have been admiring all the fall color that has finally arrived in our area in the past week, but I noticed yesterday that two of my trees have already dropped most of their leaves. I need to get out there with the camera before it's too late! Of course, it would be nice if it stopped raining so I could...

They are all beeeeeeutiful. I loved walking out there yesterday, bending over every few seconds to take photos of the leaves with water drops. Without water drops, with red, without red, you ahhhem get the picture.

Hiya Joy! Oh, such gorgeous leaves. It's too bad the fall season has been so lousy; I would have enjoyed seeing the changing of the leaves. Maybe next year?

Anyway, I can't believe I haven't sat down to write you an email yet! We've been busy around the house. The bathrooms finally have towel racks and toilet paper holders? Can you believe it? And only after almost four months of living here! Har har har...

Tonight, I even picked up Bailey a playpen, so when I'm too busy to surpervise her, I can place her in the playpen no matter where I am in the house, so she won't be stuck in her cage. The playpen is good for outdoors too, so when I'm gardening in the spring and summer, I can take her outside with me. Isn't this just hilarious. A playpen for my a ferret! The last time I did that, it was with my kids!

Anyhow, I hope you're okay. And I will definitely have an email out for you very soon! Promise!

Tomorrow evening, we should be taking my daughter and two of her friends to Fort Fright at Fort Henry. Should be interesting!

Hi Tina girl .. this Autumn has not been a good one .. the balance of rain from summer mixed with the number of good dry sunny days is so darn delicate to get the recipe just right for the perfect month of October .. well you get the idea ? haha I grabbed what I could and saved these leafs ! BIG sigh : )

Silence girl I love hearing from another leaf fan? haha .. that Japanese maple sounds simply gorgeous .. I love their delicate looking shapes and fantastic colour ! and YES ! using them for displays .. I wish I could but the girls would have it apart in no time .. something like having toddlers around all the time ? LOL

Rose ! I haven't done the iron waxed thing in ages : ) I want to remember that one too .. right now I have the leaves in a flower press (but I rushed through it without reading the directions the right way (typical for me ?).. we also have so many rainy days now that I have little hope of getting more pictures .. darn !!!

Thanks Carrie girl ! I hope you are feeling a wee bit better and enjoying the weekend too !

Jen ! LOL .. yup .. I now exactly what you mean girl .. it can drive me a bit batty when I am downloading and wondering what did I do all of that for ? .. BUT .. I would rather have the option of more pictures with a better chance of finding the perfect ones , than not ? : )

MMD : ) Hey ! those are perfect uses too ! Linus and his sucker always comes to mind when I think of some one jumping in the BIG leaf pile ? LOL

Martha girl .. I'm worse than you .. the wooden frame around the new deck door is still UNPAINTED as are the baseboards that I wanted to get done and a host of other projects (JEEZ !!!) .. I love the playpen thing ! perfect for that adorable imp !! .. that will be great when you are in the garden (planting all of those plants ear marked for you here for next Spring !!) .. Hey I'm sure the girls will LOVE fright night up at the fort , there isn't a more perfect place for that .. except maybe the cemetery where Sir John A is ? haha
Hope you all have a spooktacular time !

Hello there Kiki and thank you so much ! .. I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed with the weather for this month .. I really wait all year to take pictures of the gorgeous leaves (black tar spot or not ! haha) .. oh well, I will soldier on ? LOL

Great Canadian post, eh! Love the leaves, especially the multi-coloured one. Mother Nature is very good to us with these little treats :)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hey there Ms. S ... Yup ! Mother nature truly treats us with an awesome colour show if you live in the right places .. I missed the peak period because of bad weather .. I feel bad about that since I love this time of year so much .. it will soon be all over too quickly :(

Those black & white Halloween cards are great Joy. I've never seen those before either. Very cool.

What will you do with the leaves? Frame them? or were you just admiring them? You sure assembled a nice collection.

You must be very excited because of Halloween this Saturday!!!! I can't believe it's here already. I hope you have a great holiday. :-)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hello there Kathleen girl !
I am pressing them right now .. but I found a few more to add to it .. I would love to frame them and keep them forever of course ! LOL .. The weather has been terrible for watching leaves this year .. it peaked in between days of rain and wind and of course I didn't get out that one golden day to get the best pictures .. so I feel let down .. and now the weather is RAIN for Halloween .. BIG sigh !!!

I love the b&w cards! The series has been a fun read...I sure miss having little ones to plan costumes and trick or treating! Joy, we woke up to fog on Sunday....it was so lovely.
it's hard to remember to grab that camera every time I leave the house. I might have to leave a sign on the door! Have a good day. gail

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Gail I will have to leave a huge note for myself TOO .. that day I missed the golden hour with such beautiful trees on my way to an appointment .. I kicked myself so many times .. oh well ... next year for SURE !!
I have to download some pictures and continue the postings .. I am so behind .. OOPS !!

Joy, The second card is wonderful! Oh, they all are, I love to corn cob pumpkin guy.
The leaves are beautiful this year, must of been the rain, lately I've kicked myself about the camera when the wild turkeys are strutting so close to the road (if not on the road)!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hey there Dawn girl ! I missed the wild turkeys too girl ! .. I did get a blurred picture last year .. but none this year :(
I thought we would have perfect conditions for the leaves this Autumn because we had enough rain in the summer ... but then it rained so much this month we didn't get to see what we should have seen .. tarnation !!!! LOL
