Flowing water, the plumber and goodbye $$$

OK .. this is yet another non-gardening post but I just can't help it !
I am way behind in blog work (changing from Halloween into the "normal" world again) although you all know I would like to stay there permanently ?
Yesterday when husband was going to do a simple swap out the kitchen faucet to a new one .. well .. there is no way to explain the chain of events other than the gushing water .. a lot of screaming and yelling .. running up and down stairs .. water through the family room ceiling , TURN OFF THE MAIN WATER VALVE QUICK !!!!!!!!!!!!! How can we find a plumber fast enough ...
Thank god we could .. and have you ever seen your life flash before your eyes while hysterically laughing .. like Tom Hanks in the "Money Pit" when the tub fell through the floor ?? .. if so .. now YOU KNOW !
I'll be back in the real world shortly ... or maybe ?

Ha ha ha...oh Joy, I'm so sorry, I'm not laughing at your personal water problem. I was just laughing at the movie 'The Money Pit'. I'd forgotten about that; it really was hilarious.

I can just imagine the hysteria over at your place. Nothing like water getting out of control to have everyone running around like chickens without a head. I hope it turned out alright!

And yes, you can kiss your $$$ goodbye when a plumber is called...sigh...

Oh how awful, Joy! So glad you found humor in it though. Sometimes we laugh to keep from crying, right? The countdown until next years Hallowe'en has begun here as well. :-)

Man, my heart goes out to you. Been replacing toilet tank parts, little by little....why am I the one who can repair toilets???

I can relate. You almost feel like this CAN'T be happening. Hopefully you got it under control. Those wet/dry vacs work good for getting the water up.

Oh no!!!!!! It sounds terrible! I hope it can be fixed up quick!!!!

Sounds like a real mess, but also that you have a great attitude about things happening in life.

Glad that you could deal with it, and then move on quickly. Bet there was a lot of water.....

I just read your hilarious email and had to pop over! I realize it's not a hilarious situation but love how you described it so much :)
Thanks so much for your delightful email and for visiting my online home. I'll pop by again very soon.

Oh, no, Joy! This reminds me of when it rained here 8 inches each day for two days running and the plastic wash basin the previosu homeowners had so thoughtfully put over the living room ceiling rather than fixing the roof leak---all of which was, of course, totally unknown to us---overflowed, soaked the ceiling, and ripped through with a monstrous ripping sound while I was in the home office on the phone with my father. I'll never forget that sound as long as I live, or rushing into the living room to see a huge, ragged hole in the ceiling, water pouring down all over everything, and the offending wash basin on the floor! 50 years off my life at the very least. Ah, the joys (pardon the pun) of homeowning! I'm so glad you were able to get a plumber pronto.

not fair!! oh, I hope you can laugh (hysterically!) about it in years to come. Just an awful mess.

I'm still concussed and thus not blogging for a day. It's worse today, boy, not nice But I can laugh at it all (what I can remember, haha).

Blog again soon xx

Joy, I don't even know where the water shut off is. But I am going to find out now!
Good luck.

Martha if you had been here you would have died laughing .. it wasn't funny at the time .. a few BLUE words were close to the surface .. but we got a plumber from the "Handyman" company fairly quickly and again with this house being the "Money Pit" nothing is ever easy or simple .. but we are alive to talk about it ? ;-)

Thank you so much gittan .. we have survived it but I'd like one simple renovation to go right ? Tomorrow we are having some electrical jobs done by a professional .. hope he doesn't fry himself with this house the way it "thinks" ? haha

Thanks Frances .. this will be a year to remember NO doubt about THAT !

Janet girl, you ROCK !!! I have no idea about toilets .. only when they DON'T work .. then boy can you hear me complain ? haha

Tina .. it was a lot of grabbing towels and running around like those headless chickens but we are still here ? haha

We are keeping our heads above water Cindee ! What fabulous moon shots you took girl !!

Jen .. we will be replacing ceiling tiles for sure .. hope we can find some that match this pattern .. ugh !! I can't think of replacing them all ??? JEEZ !!!
My humour may take a nose dive if that is the case !

Diane I am glad to give you a giggle girl ! This has been our first house and most likely the last with the money that has been invested in it .. but it "fits" other then the reno calamities ?
Makes life exciting ? HA !! NOT !: ) hehehe

OMG 'ben' .. I hope to god i never top your story because that would have been a major heart attack for me .. and I mean that literally .. how you survived it is amazing .. all for the use of a wash basin ? something Dutch about that .. the little guy with the finger gave up ? LOL .. not funny but what a mental picture I have of the whole thing .. YIKES !!

Barbee' the only thing scarier girl ... was ME !! hahaha

Carrie did you ever go to emergency with that bang to the head ? you should have had an x ray or checked out by a doctor .. if you still have headaches get yourself there girl ! Don't even think of blogging .. go to bed but keep awake .. no how on earth do you do THAT ??? LOL

Deborah .. take it from me .. KNOW where your water shut off valve is NOW !!!! LOL

Hello DF .. This is so true .. it is a rather new company that employees local tradesmen and we know we can get results rather quickly ;-)

Gail .. I tend to think I will be telling Elly's story over mine .. I can't even imagine the shock of that happening ! LOL

Kate girl .. having been an army wife a long time .. you have these types of emergencies OFTEN ! haha
But I was out of practice for a while .. snapped me back to reality ? LOL

Joy, I am feeling for you! Whenever Hubby starts a home repair job here, I'm never quite sure how many professionals it might take to complete it:) The worst is that one job usually leads to another and another...

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Rose girl .. that is SO true !!I'm glad to have company for the way I feel the stress .. but, we have an electrician here now sorting some things out for us ..phew ! he is insured by the company he works for so that helps calm the nerves ? LOL

It seems like almost every simple project we've started turns into something much more complicated and costly than we expected. Nothing worse than rushing water inside your house. Hope the damage wasn't too bad.
