What happens when ....

A few days ago I was excited to finally "catch" some ice in my little dragonfly stand .. and yet the rosemary did me proud and was remaining so vividly green and beautiful.
Yes ... the parsley too was holding its own .....
As well as that gorgeous oregano and sage with its parsley .. who would have thought it would in December !
Then today happened ..........................
Heavy, white, wet sticky stuff .. but being sticky it did STICK to the branches and looked beautiful to me .. it also has a noise damping affect .. you can hear silence .. that is true for me : )
White covered the purple oregano ...
It layered on lamps and limbs of trees ...
On garden arbors with fancy finials ....
On shrubs with many arms reaching out to it ...
On roof tops of houses for people and birds ....
On gargoyles ... whether they be watchers of a garden ...
Or actual weather gargoyles who might have known this was coming ?
On stoic garden gnomes who are friends of gargoyles, who might have given them warning ?
On mystery vines ... that we think we know what they are .. but do we really ?
The snow is melting .. and that mystery vine is still growing .. I can hear it .. under the snow ;-)

Hi Joy,

I haven't visited in a while. Your snow is GORGEOUS!!! We actually had a bit of snow last week and it was so exciting! We don't get snow very often. Hope you are staying warm in your snowy wonderland.♥

i love your snow. i like how you noted how sounds change with snow present....very cool.

you really don't know what the mystery vine is? weird that it is still so green now.

could it be a climbing hydrangea vine?...

Bummer for you. That's a lot of snow. On the plus side, the snow has started, so there will be an end - no more dreading the first big snow. And the shortest day is only days away - after that the days start to get longer - that's something to get excited about!

So pretty! And you are right about the hush that comes with a nice snowfall. I just love the quiet of it.

Your mystery vine sounds like it may be stalking you (ha ha!!)

Hi Joy~~ Well, it had to happen, especially in your neck of the woods. Your photos really capture the silence and serenity of the landscape. Stay warm!

Darlene girl !! I have been lax ? forgetful in visiting you as well , but hey .. we eventually remember don't we ? is this that thing about getting older ? LOL
My goodness you had snow then ? it must have been so odd, not being used to it .. hey .. you wouldn't believe how many Canuck drivers have accidents the first few times with snow .. it is so STUPID .. we should KNOW what we are doing ? LOL

Hi Cindee girl .. Mista G is actually having a fun time with the boys here .. I think I heard them laughing at one point .. watching people fall down in the snow ? hehehehe

Hello there dj ! the sound is heavenly .. or lack of sound is heavenly but it definitely "sounds" wonderful to me : )
The vine is a passion flower cultivar called Maypop .. the standing joke is that it came to two of us , myself and another gardener Kathleen from Kasey's Korner in the same weather zone but in the States .. hers has been a very slow poke grower but mine is a "monster" compared to hers. We both started from a 3" plug ! haha

Jim ! You are a dear !! when you put it that way ... it makes me feel so much better , moving on and getting the ball rolling towards Spring : ) Thank you !!

Ms. S .. when I first "heard" the lack of sound .. it was so wonderful .. even my tinnitus felt less annoying : )
The Maypop passionflower vine aka mystery vine , just won't keep growing .. it is "spooky" ? LOL

Debbie girl .. your feed is still messed up on Blotanical .. why can't we get that fixed girl ? LOL
There has to be a way !!!

Grace .. yes the white stuff hit .. but it isn't that cold really .. just cold enough to be snow and not rain .. it is beautiful as long as I can drive through it all and not spin out ? LOL

Just beautiful, Joy. May your herbs rebound after the blanket they received. Those are all quite hardy here, but your temperatures are more extreme. Maybe the snow will insulate them? I love your description of the silence of the snow, I always enjoy that as well. :-)

Now that is real snow! Beautiful, so beautiful. Rarely do we gat snow in Carrickfergus and it doesn't lie - we're too close to the sea. Your garden takes on such a sculptural feel, you see only beautiful shapes undestracted by colour for a while. Poor friends, they look so cold, hehehe xxx Lovely post xxxxxx

It's beautiful Joy and the silence is a lovely experience....We are getting rain, but this should turn to ice tomorrow or the next day! Sigh...the white stuff would be lovely. Is that vine Bignonia/Cross Vine? gail

So pretty, Joy. We haven't had that picture-perfect snow blanket in T.O. yet, so it's lovely to see yours. Does your passionflower actually over-winter?

Hi - we in South Dakota zone 4 are also having snow. I enjoy looking at other northern gardens - very beautiful - Gloria

We got snow (and sleet and ice) this weekend, too, Joy, as if Simon's murder drained the warmth out of the world. But yes, ours was (and is) pretty, too. Your poor boys certainly don't look too pleased about it, though, especially poor Winthrop! I was going to say, hey, isn't that a passionvine? Whew, always good to be right. Your rosemary looks so plump and healthy. I'm jealous! What will you do with your herbs over winter?

Oh, how cute. Those snowy garden gnomes are darling. We've got snow and bitter cold so I'm enjoying a day by the fire checking up on my favorite blogs. Stay warm!

Hi Frances .. I'm not sure what is going to happen to the herb experiment.. I have sages and golden oregano, and thyme in the garden and they survive no problem .. but rosemary is another case with our zone .. that 'silence" is so perfect it strikes me every time I "hear" it : )

Hi Carrie girl : ) .. the boys will be fine .. they just like to complain ? haha .. this morning was awesome .. clear sunrise with absolutely stunning royal frosting on everything .. I have to down load the pictures and post .. it was magical ! : )

Gail ! .. rain turning to ice is a scary thing .. ouch on that one.
The silence that snow generates is so calming , so wonderful .. it helps ease the constant sound in my ears : ) This is a Maypop Passionflower vine .. whether it makes it through our winter is the actual experiment .. fingers crossed !

Helen .. I wondered if you got any snow there ? .. it was gorgeous to see this morning here : )
It is a Maypop passionflower cultivar .. I got mine from Veseys in PEI and they said it would be hardy to zone 4-5 .. so I have to wait and see if it will make it through .. hope so !!

Hello Gloria and thanks for stopping by : ) .. it helps to see other gardeners cope with our grow zone .. especially if it is a long winter and Spring takes so long to really arrive ? LOL

Elly .. my heart aches for you with the loss of Simon (I know it is an actual murder when it happened the way it did .. it makes me sick to think of it) .. we had a clear sunrise this morning and the snow is melting a bit .. but I think more is coming .. I might have to knit the boys some scarves after all ? .. I don't know if the herbs will over winter in their pots but since I haven't done that yet .. it is an experiment to see what will happen .. I doubt the rosemary will survive .. but what the hey .. I'll give it a go ? ;-)

Kate girl .. that is the perfect way to spend a cold winter day .. by the fireside (roasting marshmallows would be the ultimate dream .. hard to do with an enclosed gas fireplace here ? LOL) enjoying blogs ! : )

Hopefully, some of your herbs will shake off the snow and continue to grow! The snow pictures are so beautiful! We don't have snow yet...

Your 'Maypop' is definitely going to make it thru the winter Joy! How could it not when it looks so vigorous and healthy? That thing is UNBELIEVABLE! Enjoy your winter wonderland.

Hello Tatyana .. I always sort of gave up on tender herbs in pots over the winter .. but some how this year I am really hoping to pull them through .. wait for it, it is COMING girl : )

Kathleen ... oh my goodness !! you had me yearning for those cookies you had made .. I'm not a baker .. I can do a turkey dinner but desert is usually "bought"
I am stunned by this vine girl .. husband thinks it is because that raised bed is relatively close to the outside dryer vent .. could this be its secret ?? LOL
