Question for gardeners in South Carolina ?

I have a friend who is trying to identify this shrub so she can go to a nursery and find it ..
Right now she does not know what it is .. and neither do I since I am not familiar with plants from this region .. Rock Hill, South Carolina .. a grow zone of 7a-7b .. you lucky devils !
If anyone can identify this shrub please let me know so I can pass the information on ?
Plus any characteristics of the shrub she should know about ?
Thanks !!

You must have it identified by now but it looks like nandina. Probably 'Nana gracilis' or 'Harbor Dwarf'.

Looks like the winter foliage of a Nandina to me. If it is a Nandina, they are easy bushes to grow. Dont mind drought or too much water. They are green in the summer and turn bright red during the Winter, if in sun that is. The ones we have in the shade of the North side of the house dont get as red as the one in the driveway island which has full sun. Go to the side bar over at "In the Garden" and click on Nandinas to see some in both Tina and my gardens....

Hi Joy, It's Nandina domestica. Which cultivar I don't know but it's one of my all time favorite smaller shrubs. During the winter the foliage turns this apple red. During the growing season the foliage will be a mixture of green and red and all shades between, depending on how much sun it's getting. You/she can get a lot more information now that you've got its identity. Staying warm up there, Joy girl???

sorry didn't read about characteristics, evergreen, turns a lovely red in the winter. some varieties stay small, like Firepower. Other species varieties grow to a height of 4- 6 feet. They have berries (some cultivars are sterile as it reseeds easily-- on some invasive lists)zones 6-9.

Wow, you gals (and guys!) are good! And very fast! I have already called our local nursery and I can get 1 gallon buckets of Firepower Nandina for only $5.99!! She said she has other varieties as well, so I might have to take a peek at the others too before I settle on one. Boy it's gonna look a LOT better at my house this spring!! Thanks again!
