Adieu Tulip Sisters

I don't think I have ever been more pleased with a garden experiment in the form of a "bulb circle" ? ;-) than I have been with this gorgeous display .. and more is coming .. bulbs are nature's true miracles .... OK .. aside from seeds ?
I will never forget at one time seeing a tulip bulb cut length wise, to show its hidden jewel of a flower, waiting for just the right conditions to be born.
These tulip sisters have totally amazed me with their beauty .. and for so long it seems, they folded up and unfurled each day and evening.
I have not yet seen ones or remember seeing any (after all .. I did live in the Netherlands for four years .. those are a lot of flowers to digest !!) fold their petals in this fashion.
I took these pictures in bright bright day light so the sheen is a bit much to take in .. their petals look like silk enveloped in gossamer ?
The sword foliage is the announcement of the allium ... they ARE coming in an assortment of small to .. well .. lets say VERY big !
A first time with these ones for me .. I am so curious to see how they will turn out !
You can see the daffs starting to smile in the "other" circle planting .. sadly they will be replanted else where because I need that space for a path .. but I will tuck them in carefully some where !

I have two of these cast iron garden stakes .. I fell in love with them very easily since I love just about anything cast iron garden related .. ahhhh ! Home Sense : )

I trimmed the spent blooms of my tulips a couple of days ago. They sure were lovely while they lasted. So glad your circle planting was a success. That looks like a lovely acquisition from HomeSense.

Those tulips are truly amazing, Joy. Bulbs are such a wonderful thing for the garden. My tulips were lazier it seems; they're only just beginning to bloom. Better late than never.

I look forward to seeing the rest of your bulbs, especially 'the giants"; that will be cool.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the pictures of your lovely tulip sisters, and look forward to other instalments from your bulb circle! The garden stakes are lovely too. :)

Hey there Linda girl !
I have gotten so much enjoyment from that project it has been wonderful .. a definite KEEPER : )
I was so lucky to see the garden stakes I have a different one than this with a floating frog .. and then with an actual jumping frog with a cabochon of coloured glass .. Home Sense can me my day !

Hello there BTG ! .. if you are in Canada you might just find one ? I know if you are in the States there are similar stores .. there is nothing like finding the perfect garden jewelry eh ? : )

Martha girl .. Red Riding Hood tulips are later season tulips .. there is a whole slew of them that you can time when they bloom ..your aren't lazy ! they are right on schedule just as mine are .. ours will bloom at the same time ! .. and YES !! I can't wait to see the BIG'UNs haha

Thank you Rebecca girl .. this has been really fun for me .. I do have to think of something to brighten this spot up as the bulbs go to sleep after they are done .. now that will be a "thinker" !
I love my Home Sense goodies : )

Hello there Racquel girl and thank you ! I haven't seen tulips do that before have you ? I loved the show here now on to the next stage ? LOL

my tulips and daffs are long gone. Now I'm just waiting for the leaves to brown up so I can cut them back and clean the beds. I guess when you have 85° days, spring is on it's way out.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Eric I would certainly say your Spring ran out the door and is NOT looking back ! LOL
We go up and down like a yo yo .. it is a long process with Spring bulbs .. I hate having the ugly leaves there but that is the price you pay for the wonderful show they give you .. on to the next show then !!!

Hi Joy,

I've been trying since yesterday to respond to your comment on my post, but for some reason am unable to :( So all I could think to do is to put the comment on yours and hope you get it!

re: Food Charms: Thank you! :) I definitely have a great time when I can be 'creative' in the kitchen.

Looking forward to the summer months when my vegetable garden can return. Excited to be able to throw together my own fresh produce in culinary creations!

Love your blog. The tulips are truly magnificent.

Monica

You hit on a perfect combination with your tulips, nestled in with the Allium foliage. They look wonderful together.

Those petals are very silky. Love them!

That is a lovely display. Your idea, or something you saw in a magazine? If you are like me, you bring ideas from away to your garden.

Hey Joy, It's me again lol! I think I am going to plant Sonata Mix Cosmos, and maybe a Shirley Poppy mix in my tulip bed to brighten it up after the bulbs are done.

I wrote back to you re the rose & the gargoyle in my post, but I thought I'd copy it to here in case you missed it, hope you don't mind.

"I'm so glad you like him. I am thinking of calling him Alastair, but I'm not sure if it will stick. I found him at HomeDepot, so I'm sure he has many siblings out there. This is my first Jack, I have been admiring him on other peoples blogs, I hope he likes it here! As for the rose, it isn't a Morden rose, but an Easy Elegance one Rosa 'BAlset' Sunrise Sunset, 3ftx3ft Zone 4. And thanks for adding me to your blogroll! Much appreciated. :o)"

Sandy : ) My main thought was that my garden had hard lines to it because of the wooden ties .. that I NEEDED something to accent curves or as it became a circle .. the Spring bulb was a no brainer and the position was also because the new deck with thinner slats allowed us to see the garden from the kitchen etc .. the actual bulbs were mail order and from stores here .. it was laid down by height and my fascination with the BIG allium was a key point : ) now we shall see ? LOL

Rebecca girl ! Now you have me NEEDED to get myself to Home Depot BADLY to see if a sibling is possible for the boys here .. I fancy that name ! a good solid Brit name : )LOL
Ah ! I got the sunset rose mixed up DUH ? LOL .. I was having an odd day yesterday .. too much going on .. I hope to post about it today some time .. Millar came with his crew and "started" he will be back on Friday .. very exciting !!!
I'm sorry it took me this long to realize I didn't have you on the roll girl .. I think I have to have a good LOOK at that roll !! LOL

Monica ! Thank you so much : )
I tried all afternoon to reply to your comment here .. Blogger was VERY naughty and wouldn't let me do it "401" error message that wiped it out all the time .. VERY aggravating !
I have to write your recipes down : ) I know husband will love them too !

Nancy the garden design fairy must have been on my shoulder that time I planned it out because I surpassed myself on how well this is turning out ! LOL Thanks girl : )

Tina girl .. if only we had complexions like they did ? LOL

I can see why you don't want to say goodbye to these sisters, Joy--they're pretty and so different in the way they curl up their petals. The tulips have been beautiful this year, and I am sad to see them go, too.

Too bad I didn't see this post yesterday morning--I was looking at a flowerbed and wondered what in the world those new green leaves were. Finally, I figured out they were alliums! Sometimes I'm surprised by the garden just because I don't remember what I planted the year before:)

Those are amazing! I've never seen anything like them :D

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Rose girl : ) You are SO NOT alone in that problem .. I forget what is what in some areas of the garden and it drives me totally bonkers .. then later on as the season progresses ? I get over that DUH ? moment and know what it is finally .. haha
Yes .. these have been extraordinary and I'm so happy to have seen this whole event "unfold" the way it has : )

Kyna girl ! I haven't seen any tulip do what these girls have done either : ) I'm so glad I have them here !!
