Ode to Ernie and Bert

In the wee hours of the morning a dreaded raccoon decided he wanted some "fast food" .
It found our little pond in a bowl and snacked on both of our little goldfish .. Ernie and Bert. I just wanted to say how much we had enjoyed having them there and we will miss them. The war with raccoons in our neighborhood still rages on with this event. We won't put any more goldfish in the pond and that .... SUCKS !!

I am so sorry to hear this. I know how you feel. I have put goldfish in our waterfeature before. They grew so nice and were such fun to watch. Then the racoons discovered them. They didn't last long. Sniff..

So sorry. The fisherman in our garden is a Great Blue Heron. I have one fish left out of seven. Wanda knows how to hide. She's four years old now.

My sympathies for the loss of Ernie and Bert. Why must nature be so cruel?

Poor Ernie and Bert, lovely tribute Joy. Nature can be so brutal sometimes.

Thanks Lisa .. I just stared and stared at the bowl thinking maybe ? they could have hidden .. but husband did the deed of looking and cleaning it out .. we should have known better I guess ..

oh Freda .. that is sad .. to get the fish to an older age and enjoy them for years .. it just keeps happening with raccoons .. like a never ending pain in the BUTT !

Thanks Tracy .. it is funny how attached you can become with such little creatures .. we will miss them : (

Thanks Racquel .. I know it is only nature working this way .. but we had plans to get an aquarium and bring them inside .. the whole deal .. damn those raccoons !

Marha girl it even left a paw print on the side of the wall where the bowl is .. I couldn't take pictures .. it was just too sad .. John did the clean up for me ..so, no more fish outside for those beasts to snack on !!!

Linda I can't believe our luck with these damn animals .. this is wearing on us for sure !

Thanks Vesty girl .. it was not a good morning having to see that .. they keep coming back to see if they can get in too .. we are just too darn attractive to them ?!!

Sorry for your loss. We lost Ozzy Osbourne and Yang as well. Poor Ketchup is swimming around in the little water garden all by his lonesome.

I am so very sorry to hear about your poor goldfish. Raccoons are EVIL!

My old boss had a running battle with the Heron's. After filling his ponds with thousands of dollars worth of Koi to be sold that season, he realized the population was greatly decreased. They ate every last one over that summer..

And then we have the raccoons, they would go after anything near the store, or in the store. I do not care for them.

The one that was in my kitchen the other night, obviously has been eating food from somewhere around here. It certainly wasn't scared of me.

It's awful, and when you can't even have a water feature on your deck because of the raccoons, it makes you wonder.

So sorry.

Hi Kyna girl .. it really felt so sad that morning .. we couldn't believe it yet we should have known better ? right ? after two long years of battles with these evil varmints ??? jeez !

Debbie girl I too am sorry for your loss and poor ketchup (how cute is that name BTW ?) ? with no one to keep him company .. now that is scary ! poor little thing.

OMG Jen .. are you kidding me ? holy crap ! He should have taken out insurance on those beautiful fish ! and you had a raccoon close encounter too ? I would have started screaming like an idiot and a lot of good it would have done .. the raccoon would only cover its ears and keep eating right ? JEEZ !!!! you are a warrior girl ! haha

Thank you Ms S : ) .. Winthrop finally said ENOUGH ! I want a paid holiday ? hehehe

What about some beautiful glass fish to honour them by. I'm sure such things must exist.... I now hate racoons even though I've never met one. I suppose I shouldn't tar them all with the one brush but darn it, from what you have shown me so far, ggrrrrr!

Hi Carrie girl and that is a great idea .. some kind of colourful floating fish to make the pond-in-a-bowl seem user friendly again ?
Raccoons are on my very bad list right now .. after two years of fighting with them .. I have had enough ! aaarrgghh !!

I am sorry for your loss)-: This happened to me a few years ago. It was some huge goldfish I had had for years that a raccoon got. I was very sad)-:

Cindee girl that must have been heart breaking .. to have one for years and have it grow that large .. I guess we just never considered (even with our raccoon history) that they would bother with our little pond in a bowl ?
