Shadow Shot Time : )

It has become very difficult to find shadows yet again here in the GWN ...
So I am glad to have captured some from a few days ago .. not exactly that wow factor since I keep relying on my back garden .. hanging out of the deck door, freezing my toes, taking pictures in my questionable cabin fever get-up plus reindeer socks ? I think you get the idea ?? wink!

Thankfully the light is coming a wee bit earlier in the morning and staying a wee bit later in the afternoon/evening .. the "garden itch" is getting stronger .. which it has so much longer to wait, so I have to be able to control it or good grief .. combine that ? with "cabin fever" and all he** will break loose !! *silly grin* time
What you want to do now .. is race over to Tracy's place Hey Harriet and see exceptional Shadow Shooters who hunt those shadows relentlessly as I try to do : )

We in a four-season climate have the advantage over those in a warmer one - when Spring arrives, we all take advantage of it! In southern Connecticut, we don't see this much snow very often, so it can be tiring. At least snow allows for fine shadows!

I'm so there with ya...even going to work on a Saturday is a relief from cabin fever, I had it really bad Monday, couldn't get out till Wednesday...OH THE HORROR!!! What we go through in the Northlunds, even Norther for you, is that a word???

I'm quietly planning my new spring fragrances for soaps and candles, I'm going romantic rather than all springy florally, with poets and writers as my muse...this outta be fun and it sure takes away the winter blues when you have a plan, but I still plan my new secret garden in my special place, that corner of my brain where it resides full time, even in winter.

Sure been cold here...sorta like Canada huh!!!

Stay warm neighbor!!!

Hi Joy, I can just see you hanging out your back door! Those fog shots I took the other day were taken from the front lawn in my jammies at 7:00am! The things we do! Have a great weekend.

Super shadow shots ..... fortunately we have no snow at the moment, but the threat of very cold weather next week. It will take our garden a long time to recover from the damage caused by our severe weather in December

Hi Joy girl, I like your shadow shots, especially the last one. I know what you mean about the hope of just a few minutes more of day light. It really helps!

Winter shadows do seem more of a challenge to those of us living in a wintery climate, but you managed to find a few!

Happy weekend to you!

Hello there MMT : )
You have engaged the possibility of so many different songs my snow shadows could be singing to me right now! *grin* I hope it won't be one that goes on and on and on?? LOL

Hello Catherine .. sunny Mexico sounds perfect right now ! and yes, you can imagine all sorts of unusual things that the shadows seem to illustrate in my back garden .. thank you : )

Hello Ralph : ) I don't think I could live anywhere that didn't have 4 seasons (although winter could be a lot shorter and Spring much longer!) .. it makes us appreciate each stage so much more doesn't it ? .. Spring seems to have been short changed though .. we seem to only have it a couple of weeks then BANG hot humid summer .. who do I talk to about this by the way ?? hehehe

Sharon now you have me thinking of all those wonderful soaps and candles .. I have an old Bourbon rose, Zephirine Drouhin .. I would love to have soaps and candles with that fragrance !
The secret garden .. YES : ) I have one in the corner of my imagination too, *BIG SMILE* where I have NO neighbors and a beautiful forest is near by and did I mention it is on the sea coast ? LOL
How much heaven can a person take?
The cold front tomorrow is true Artic blast so we will be snug in our cabin up here in the GWN ! .. and yes ... cabin fever just might take over !! eeekkkkk !!

Hello Sylvia and thank you .. and it is COLD here for sure EH ! LOL
I can't seem to pick up the detail of sparkle that the snow has with the sun shining on it .. I don't know if it is me or the camera !LOL

Hello there Whimsy girl : ) I must have missed those fog shots I have to get over to your place and search again .. and YES ! what lengths we go to for those special shots .. come warmer weather (months away yet) I will just throw caution to the wind and go straight out in that outrageous night ware and snap pictures .. my neighbors are either asleep or just used to me now anyways ? haha

Hello fraye : ) .. that is the trick with winter here too .. if we don't have snow cover to protect the garden before the severe cold it truly damages plants .. I have had losses over the years when that happens .. I try to look at it as an opportunity to buy new plants ?LOL

Hey there Rose .. Ms. BB was too adorable in those pictures ! and yes I think I can see a Polar Bear too now that you mention it : )

Kate girl how are ya'! .. thank you and maybe I might take a picture of my reindeer socks ? just so as not to scare too many people at once ?
How many days until Halloween is there ? wink wink

Grace girl : ) hello there! You are so RIGHT about "Billy" he is as cute as the kids ! haha
Yes .. I can say I do see a difference in the light length .. some one is leaving the switch on longer ?? hehehe

Hello Alissa and yes .. so many days with no sun and finding shadows is such a mission .. I could be looking indoors but cabin fever would be magnified ! LOL

I think they're very clever, your shadow shots, given freezing weather and fickle sunshine. Well done, Joy!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hello Christine girl and thank you!
I just saw those amazing orchids you have taken such good care of .. talk about pay back for looking after them .. they truly smiled at you !
Ah yes .. that fickle sunshine .. some times I think we act like moles when it comes out because we haven't gotten enough of it ? LOL

Good for you for capturing some shadows! I have to agree that the Great White North has been rather overcast of late. :)

Lovely bright snowy days are the best!

I like your shadow shots especially the last one. Winter does sometimes give us a glimpse of those lovely shadows.

We did the same thing! Today I did not want to venture too far from the house, so I searched for shadows around the yard. It was toooo cold to go far afield!
Great shots!
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

I love shadows on snow. I'm in Canada as well, and a lot of my shots are from the back door, or a window. Brrrrrrrrr

I like the angles of the shadows on the curved snow. Just glad it's not me shivering! Not long till spring I hope.

I adore your winter scenes! Of course I can understand you wanting winter to be over so that yu can get back into your garden! Reindeer socks eh? Now that I'd like to see! Sounds cute!

Thanks for your suggestion about placing my basil up higher. I'll give that a go but these grasshoppers are quite high jumpers I think. But it may put a few of the lazier ones off at least :)

You captured some lovely shadow photos Joy. I cheated and used some from a couple of years ago as it is way too cold to go out and snap photos.

Spadoman said...

I have missed you, but finally made it back to SSS. I can just imagine you in your cabin fever attire. Do those reindeer socks have leather bottoms? I had a pair that did with knitted snowmen.

I love your garden shots. Of course our landscape looks the same as yours. Have you had this bitter cold as well?

Good to visit here. Great photos.

Peace.

EG hello there : ) I really enjoyed your shots from both blogs ! Yes .. when we are overcast it dulls the brain terribly ? then when we have clear skies it is so frigid you avoid going out .. typical Canuck weather?LOL

Hello Sarah ! Yes .. on those bright days the snow sparkles with all the diamonds buried in it ;-)

Hi there Lola .. some days are better than other days so I grab the camera when I see the opportunity ! ;-)

Hello there Bev : ) I just saw your shadows too and YES !! it is way too COLD .. there is a weather warning in affect actually .. really damaging cold out there brr!

Karen I just came back from your blog and I love your shots ! I hope you don't mind me picking you up for my blog list .. I really like your "eye" for your pictures ;-)

Hi Kay .. those were "hot" shots you took in Seattle girl wink wink
LOL

Hello Sue : ) (it seems an eternity to northern gardeners before Spring cracks her whip for us!LOL) Thanks for dropping by and commenting : )

Tracy girl thank you !
I can't imagine battling the grass hoppers the way you have to .. I get crazy with aphids and Japanese beetles .. the naughty words that happen while I am chasing them down (you wouldn't want to know!!LOL) If you see "Magic Michael" basil any where try it out .. it is amazing !

Linda I really adore that little wind mill .. Sharon from Sweet Repose has one like it too and I would like to sneak one into a corner in my garden ;-) hey we grab shadows from where ever we can girl! .. and it is killer cold out there this morning ! Brrrrrr

Hey there Joe ! how are ya' !
It can be scary seeing me in my "cabin fever crazy" outfits .. the public is better off only hearing a wee bit of the description .. that thing about too much information is too true ! haha .. these socks have rough bottoms so I don't skate on the kitchen floor ? *giggle*
we are under a severe weather warning for extreme wind chill right now between -30 and -40 so we are in true Canuck mode right now!
Hey .. it is nice to "see" you again : ) thanks for dropping by !

I know what you mean about the 'garden itch'...just this past week, I was out cleaning one of the rosebeds.

Great snowy shadows.

God Bless and have a very nice Sunday,

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Thanks Hootin Anni .. it is going to seem like forever before I get to do anything 'garden" in my actual garden! LOL .. I can keep planning though ;-)

Thank you Julie .. we are almost over the half way line for winter I think .. I just have to keep myself busy planning away for Spring projects !

Never realized how interesting shadows would be to capture. Nice job with the last one. Bet you have a million snow shadow shots.:)
