Spring ?? Part One ...

Yesterday was a true SPRING day for us in the GWN (even though we had snow flurries today .. but I won't talk about that .. right ?) In any case I had to race to my bedroom window to catch a clear sunrise with a sweet little bird in the tree watching it exactly as I was : ) A pinkish sky with a tree focused and unfocused .. sort of like life in general ?
The sun begins to peek (bottom right hand corner)
Then that amazing rosy orange glow ...
It was a perfect day .. sunny .. not windy .. perfect for garden work .. and there was a lot, and still is a lot to do, but you never seem to mind it under this type of sky : )
Little tulips sticking their tongues out at me ?
I am an obelisk freak .. I can't help it .. husband just shakes his head at them all ..

Hey .. at least I'm not a shoe freak .. I collect obelisks instead !!
Pieris Japonica 'Mountain Fire" actually held true ever-green for me through the winter .. it likes it's special spot finally !
Our grape vine is especially bred for Ontario winters .. it looks ancient with that twisted bark.
Green Panda bamboo looks a little crispy but it will be fine once I cut it back a little ..

There are lots of ferns in this area as well .. the Christmas fern stayed green all winter as well !

Two types of hakonechloa grass keep my Buddha company and feeling serene : )

Things look very bare and bleak these first weeks of Spring .. it can almost look SCARY !!

This area will fill in with brunnera, heuchera, heucherella and tiarella .. it is awesome when it does : )
Finally my Sumac is cut back in it's pollard style .. ready for that special affect I love !

Thank you husband for taking on that chore : )
Part II ... tomorrow ...

wow, you really do cut that sumac back. That's amazing how much it grows in a season. I think we're getting a delayed version of your weather. Today was outrageously beautiful but tomorrow the white stuff is headed our way.

Joy, I thought I had a lot of Obliesks but you are the winner! What a great addiction, they are all wonderful works of art.

We are so frustrated to get out and work in our gardens - soon!

Doesn't it make you feel good to get outside and play in the gardens?

Hello there GB ! (not sure which one of you girls is leaving the comment ? LOL) Yup .. cute little plant critters popping up in the garden now, finally : ) and yes .. I am a bit of an obelisk NUT !;-)

Marguerite girl it is scary each year especially with it getting older and life spans of a Sumac not all that long .. so I hold my breath waiting for the leaf out to happen .. eeekk ! we are in and out of sun and rain .. Spring weather finally .. phew !

Eileen it drives us crazy doesn't it .. that is when I tend to over do it again because I so love working in the garden .. it isn't work .. it is a love chore ? haha
Yup .. I have collected most of my obelisks from Home Sense .. a great store for garden art !

Hi Donna girl and thank you : )
I can't wait for the sun to shift more to the left .. then I get more dramatic shots : )

OMG Darla girl .. it makes the world of difference to me mentally/emotionally but I go overboard and then the BIG ouches take over ? haha

Don't you just love these spring days even if the tulips are getting sassy with you. Your obelisk collection is to die for. Fun.

Hello Lona girl : )
YES ! Same tulips that are in the original "bulb circle" I am so curious as to how they all did .. with so many opinions to look at bulbs as temporary .. almost annual flowers ? But one tip was to add fertilizer as soon as they break ground .. so I did exactly that and we'll see if it makes a difference ?

Lisa girl I have sassy everything here ! haha .. but it just struck me that those tulips were stickling their tongues out at me ;-) .. I normally would never group all of my obelisks together like that .. but I had to get them out of the way to work in each spot .. BUT ? husband saw them ALL and the shaking og the head commenced ! hehehe
