September 1st on the Quiet Side ...

Well drifting into September is going to be on the quiet side for now. Thunder showers are in the forecast .. it is a dull gray sky with no pretty sunrise to smile at but that is alright.
The garden can use some rain now so it is perfect timing for us all to rest up .. for the moment.
Yes .. I was caught of guard with some great ornamental grass offered at Walmart .. yup .. I know .. tacky plant buying ALERT !!! but hey .. great price for a beautiful miscanthus "Adagio" and by golly I needed crocus "Vernus Flower Record" to finish the Spring bulb circle properly .. and pair them with Snowdrops for the fun of it ?
Well I think the name "Mr. Chips" is the final verdict for our little chipmunk .. I'm sure he thinks this is the garden of Eden with a never ending supply of seed to cram in those cute little cheeks of his .. he reminds me of the "Godfather" as Marlon Brando portrayed the character with cheeky bravo ?
I have never seen such a gorgeous glossy coat on a chipmunk .. must be what his diet consists of via the "chipmunk master/whisperer" aka husband .. wink wink
Now how can you not think this little guy is adorable ? .. as far as we know they do not behave like a naughty squirrel and try to invade the house .. he has a bachelor pad under the deck which seems to be perfect for him .. as long as we don't raise the rent or buy cheap seed he won't complain ?
So far Sophie hasn't seen Mr. Chips .. but Emma ? Holy COW ! .. she looks calm and serene here but to see her switch to true cat nature while watching Mr. Chips scurry around .. the connection of that "still stance" in total observation/hunt mode is amazing .. but Mr. Chips has nothing to fear from our girls .. they are total indoor cats .. however the neighborhood cats do worry me .. but I will have to leave it up to Mr. Chips to be crafty and lighting fast if ever they spot him !
So ... now on to Autumn and hopefully a fantastic show of colour with our trees coming up and beautiful cool mornings with gorgeous sunrises .. and can I really get some jobs done in the garden ?

Mr Chips is adorable, and yes I can see kitties wanting to capture him. All that great quality seed makes for a tastier chippymonk.

Hope that you get some clear skies, and cooler weather.

Love your selection of plants. And Mr. Chips, gotta love this little guy. I use to like to watch them when in N.C. But no fear from the ladies inside. lol

Hard to believe it's September already, where did it all go? I'm still struggling to get perennials bought months ago into the ground. Not to mention the other late summer chores. But like you still can't resist a good deal at the nursery. Why am I still visiting nurseries? obviously I have an addiction

Yes Mr. Chips is too cute and your naughty woman making out like he is so much more tastier becuase of his high quality diet? LOL
We actually didn't get the thunder showers predicted after all. It is menopausal weather yet again !

Darla it must be hot and humid there .. hope you cool down soon girl !

Thanks Lola girl .. I did have to get the crocus .. I just couldn't resist the snowdrops and Mr. Chips is great entertainment for the girls .. cat TV ? LOL

Marguerite girl it did seem to fly by once it got going eh? I have a lot to do in the garden and I keep staring at it , like it is going to do it for itself ? haha
I'm a sucker for ornamental grasses. this was a drive by grass napping ;-) haha

Lucky you to find something worth while to bring home from the mart. Lucky you too to have some cooler days and rain. Here it is 100F. UGH.

We have cute feral kittens in the yard...have to call someone about them before we have dozens of them....not so cute.

Would someone PLEASE kill that witch!

I have a Mr. Chips in my garden also. He flits around so fast I barely get a glimpse of him.

Lisa girl I really feel bad for you with those temps ... it would knock me down and I would have to hide in our AC house .. it was such a fluke that the "W" had this grass which is still waiting to be planted .. I was so delighted to find it : )

Patsi girl I had to e-mail my comment because your blog hates me ? LOL and I did mention the possibility that the witch put a spell on it .. and did you notice there was NO (sex) in that episode .. that is a record !! I love Eric being back to his naughty self and Pam is herself as bad girl too .. can't wait to see what happens next!

Eileen girl they are so fast it is like they are in "fast forward" mode! .. we try to scare the squirrels away so there won't be a nasty territory fight but they are stubborn of course .. drama in the garden !

When I was a kid we had several pet chipmonks. They were all so fun to watch and interact with. I love them. Mr. Chips does look mighty healthy(-: How lucky of you to have him visit(-:

Hello there Cindee girl : )
He/she (how do you tell the difference ?) is a sweet little thing but we have to be on guard with bad boy squirrels in the garden as well as the neighborhood cat or two .. he lives under the deck as far as we know and there are not many of these little guys around at all .. so we hope he keeps safe !
