Last GardenChores ........

Botanus was very quick (thankfully) to send out the bulbs that reeled me in on their sale .. plus a few mystery bulbs to show their appreciation for my business .. this is the company from out west, British Columbia in fact .. that had White Licorice Rose that I so wanted but missed it by a hair's breadth ?
How funky is that saying .. but TRUE ! .. Sorry the pictures are a bit dull and dark because it was early in the morning and I wanted to work FAST !
Pudder the golfing gnome was very encouraging .. he knew I needed to get the bulbs in the ground fast with waning energy levels taunting me (now how literal can I get ? wink wink)
This is the general area for three of the groupings I was going to place.
I have only heard great reviews from other garden bloggers on the "Angelique" peony flowering tulip.
It is in shades of pink .. there is a new variety in orange that I might just try to sneak in next year .. but for now I'm waiting for Spring to see what this one will do !
Just below my name is where I planted Ballerina .. the lily flowering tulip in orange that grabbed me .. yes .. I had to have at least one orange Spring bulb !
The mystery bulbs were the bonus ones .. we all have to wait for Spring to see what they look like !
I did a few chores (the list is still FULL though) like my trick of bending Ghost fern over Fred (Japanese Maple) to keep him warm and protected over the winter .. most of my Japanese Maples have companion plants such as ferns and lamium that will flow over them during the winter.
I wait until Spring to cut back my clematis and other vines that need a trim .. having them on the arbors keeps them extra secure during all the bad weather of winter .. which we know is coming !
I found a beauty to take in from the cold, for absolute eye candy inside .. Morden Sunrise always gives me that last present of the season : )
This rose is also for "Los Dias de los Muertos" ... enjoy this day : )

Joy, I finally got all of my bulbs into the ground, wire, repellant and mulch on top of the tulips. The squirrels and chipmunks were right behind me, even ate two tulips out of the box in my garage.

I grew Angelique at my last house, beautiful pale pink. I am doing lots of orange this year, hope it isn't too shocking in early spring.

Hi dear Joy-girl, you're sooo busy!!
Your weather is like here - nusually warm. And yet I do not like to go outside. For two days I only hear a chainsaw and they kill on a neighboring property all the trees!
They think they can sell it better ... *'big sigh*
How beautiful it's with you and your gateway to secret garden!

Glad your bulbs came in quickly...wonder what the mystery bulbs will look like? How was your Halloween and are you blue now that it's over?

Hello Lisa girl : )
We might just have a few good days left for me to finish the other chores for the garden !
Yup, I can't wait to see if these bulbs look as gorgeous as they do in the pictures ? haha
Morden Sunrise is one beautiful rose : )

My god Eileen I can not get over the nerve of your squirrels/chipmunks !! Now that takes .. hum .. you now whats .. to eat them even in the garage !LOL

Meggie girl I am so sorry about the chainsaw activity and those poor trees being sacrificed .. how foolish to do that thinking the property would sell quicker ? I am hoping for a few clear days to finish up the garden chores .. fingers crossed ! .. I love my secret garden gate too : )

Darla girl you have a great photo there for the contest ! No, I'm not exactly blue .. for now ? there are a gazillion Xmas commercials on the TV now .. go figure ? now I have Xmas carols playing in my head !!

Hey Joey girl thanks for stopping by and I loved that post on the 'mums .. with a recipe to boot! I would never have thought of that with them !

Karen I so hope they all come up smiling in Spring with happy faces!
I really want to be in much better shape to garden then too : )

And you got them all planted? Nice job, girl! I've still got my prize allium bulbs to plant. I can't wait to see what your surprise bulbs will be. Oh winter please hurry up. Do your thing and go away. :)

Great idea on how to protect your maples. I never would have considered that. My clean up list is long as well but it looks like I've run out of time. Temperatures have dipped quickly here.

Wish you luck with the lily tulips. Here, they did not naturalize or return very well. They were beautiful the first year, but needed replenishment thereafter. I hope you do well with them as other bloggers said they had.

I still have a few more bulbs to plant, but they're going to have to wait for a week while I visit my daughter in AZ. I hope there's not a blanket of snow on the ground when I get back!

You will definitely love the Angeliques--they are my absolute favorite tulip. I planted two new varieties of double, peony-flowered tulips yesterday--can't wait to see how they compare.

Just saw your last comment on my post, so I had to come over and reply--Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Paul Newman...now those were leading men I'd watch in a movie any day!

Joy, your clematis looks lovely on the gate. I bet it is gorgeous in the winter with snow on it.

Now you have mystery bulbs to look forward to in the spring - great idea! :)

Gracie girl I did indeed get them planted ! I so hope they look good when they pop up ? I am so with you on that one .. as soon as Xmas is over I want Spring !! but being Canadian EH .. I know better .. it is going to be one long dark haul before the light shines again? LOL

Marguerite I just thought it was a natural protection for the roots of those delicate maples and I think it works : ) Our weather is very freaky too .. changing all the time .. but we know the BIG chill is coming for sure!

Donna I read that too about the bulbs .. I don't mind really .. I am always surprised when I have a good year with them ! LOL
I don't mind replenishing them either .. I took the advice to treat them like annuals .. that way I am not disappointed : )

Rose girl I think I was too late to wish you a Bon Voyage ! That is a big change from our weather eh ? I hope you have a wonderful time with your daughter : ) I am so excited about seeing these Angelique tulips : ) and a HUGE YES!! to Paul Newman too wink wink

Jen girl I would love to fast forward Spring right after Xmas : )
I have never seen my vine go that beautiful variations in beige before .. then the Morden Sunrise in the fore ground was perfect! I want to have a print done of it for my garden office .. hopefully next year ? I will move in ?? LOL

Ms S thank you : ) I do love the look of such lush growth hugging the arbor gate .. it is beautiful with dusting of snow on it too : )
Can't wait for Spring already ? LOL

You will love the Angelique tulips. They will be so pretty in your circle. All those last minute garden chores, ugh! Just when I think I am done and have it all bedded in I remember something else.It does not help when you see more bulbs marked down to about nothing either. LOL!So I have more planting.
Your Morden Sunrise rose is always so pretty to look at. Your Maple is still looking pretty Joy. The frosts must have missed it thus far.

Hello Lona girl : )
We have had about 4 deep frosts .. but it is a very protected area in my back garden so my big Pacific Sunset maple is still holding on to its leaves .. all the maples have "black tar spot" still so only a few leaves are pretty.
I am so looking forward to seeing the new tulips : ) I'll be "nuts" by the time they smile at me ?LOL
Yes .. mordens are gorgeous roses .. I planed a tiny white one I hope will grow BIG and beautiful too !

I think you'll adore Angelique - my only disappointment was that they really are one-year wonders. Good for you for getting them all planted - just think how beautiful they'll all be next spring.

Barb !
I wasn't sure what blog to go to but having seen the "trials" this is really interesting ! I love spirea but like you I have some "duds" that are totally boring .. I will be replacing them with the more colourful ones .. like that !
Thanks for stopping by my blog girl : )
Yes .. I have come to the conclusion like you that most tulips are annuals .. but I don't mind .. they are wonderful to see in the Spring after a long crappy winter ! haha
