Bouncing Baby Butterfly !!!

The timing was total luck but I had a hunch it was going to be soon.
Yes ... our bouncing baby butterfly cracked out of it's chrysalis and took it's time spreading it's wings and flying the proverbial "nest"  .... in my dill plant.

The morning moon was still out
It was a pretty start to the day and having read about to be more vigilant when seeing the chrysalis turn darker in colour ... I put my dill plant up on the patio table so I could keep an eye on "Butty", hey ... that name was not my idea .. blame husband for that one !

See the chrysalis and the markings you can make out ?
I was reminded by a friend (Jen of Muddy Boots) that I forgot to identify the butterfly.
It is a Black Swallowtail
And now the show

Butty was born about 7:30 AM .... and flew away from home about 9:10
Husband and I took the time to watch the amazing story "unfold" in front of our eyes and it was worth every second of it.
I hope you too can see something this special too.

That's simply amazing Joy. It's beautiful, and miraculous, and stunning all in one almost transparent tiny gossamer wing span.

Because to us, all Butty flies are Monarchs...[family joke, my sister the expert kind] I have to ask what type of flybutter is it?

Hey there Jen girl .. we were still totally amazed even though we saw it two years ago with our first "butterfly kid" .. it still knocks our socks off how this small beautiful creature comes out of that tiny shell from a totally different creature that went in.
I interjected the type when I saw your comment (Black Swallowtail):)

Hello there Grace !
I'm so glad you got some time with your mom too ! .. You are most welcome .. again it was pure luck to catch it at the right time. I am very grateful for that !!

Hey there Elaine girl : )
Thank you!
We have been lucky to see this process twice (my fridge experiment ..which still amazes me was the first).. it is so special to see this up close and in real time .. nature is truly astonishing at times : )

Butty is very handsome indeed! Just the other day I walked outside to find a yellow swallowtail on my Phlox. I find the yellow swallowtails to be quite camera shy. Wasting not a moment, I ran to get the camera and actually got some so-so shots.

Carrie girl I know you have a "thing" about butterflies so I appreciate your appreciation of my baby ! LOL

Jennifer girl hello there .. they are all so camera shy it is so hard to get photographs of them unless you carry a camera constantly with you ! Hope you post them on your blog ? I can never see too many butterflies!

How wonderful Joy!! Watching a miracle like that unfold is really uplifting. So glad your caterpillar successfully turned into a beautiful butterfly. I see black Swallowtails rarely here but getting one to lay eggs, etc., would be amazing!! He picked a really great garden to transform in!!!!!
