IT HAPPENED !!!!!!

When I put that title in it crossed my mind that some readers may think I finally have the landscaping started ... BIG sigh ... I have to get on the phone today and "bug" the company till they get over here !!

So what happened ? ... This !!!!

A chrysalis !!
The blck bundle at the bottom is the last "instar" skin to be moulted before this stage ..
Here is a site that is really interesting to see the stages this little beauty goes through .
Glorious-Butterfly

This was his last appearance as a caterpillar
So .... 2 to 3 weeks we will be watching and waiting like proud parents ... hoping that nothing interrupts the process and we are at the right place at the right time to catch it all : )
I am hoping you have these beautiful creatures in your gardens too .. we need to fill the world with butterflies! : )

How exciting! Did you overwinter a chrysalis or is this a new one this year? I've seen very few butterflies this year so far, and not a single caterpillar. I hope this is not going to be another year without butterflies.

How nice that you were able to take a picture. I hope you can get it coming out, to show us. I once took pictures of a dragonfly coming out. It was fascinating.

Hooray! We usually have a lot of swallowtails because they're native to this area but I haven't seen many yet this year. I hope you get a lot more of those little guys!

Hello Elaine girl and thank you!
We are excited .. I love how small miracles can do that for us : )

Carrie girl .. I understand completely me being afraid of moths seems to ridiculous to believe when I am in deep garden mode .. I still run and scream like a total sissy!LOL

Mr. TOG hello there and thank you .. timing is so important with these events .. I so hope we are at the right place at the right time too!

Rose girl : )The last one was 2012 that I over wintered this one happened just a few days ago on my potted dill plant so it is in "nature" and not my fridge this time! LOL
Every year is so quirky with whether we see these beauties or not .. sad

Hello Alain : )I so hope to be able to take pictures of it emerging too .. fingers crossed ... I love dragonflies too ! That must have been so exciting to see, I have never seen it in person .. it really is fascinating .. tiny miracles : )

Thank you so much Casa : ) I am hoping for many more too and near the time I can capture one to over winter in the fridge again.. that was such a huge moment for us to see it happen : )

Awwww...I think it's amazing to know one creature from caterpillar through to butterfly. You will be choked up when he emerges. :)

Ms. S We are still choked up about the initial miracle that happened in 2012 from the fridge .. I watched a special on The Nature of Things last night about the Canadian scientist that solved the riddle of the migration of the monarch butterflies to Mexico and got teary eyed .. it truly is a tiny miracle of their birth but that migration is unbelievable!

We hope to be there at the right moment Grace .. fingers crossed!

I am so jealous! I had caterpillars all over the place, but then I got busy. Two days later I go to check them, and not a one to be found. And definitely no chrysalis that I could find. ARGH! I do this every time, I always miss it.

Robin girl don't beat yourself up !
That is what is so infamous about these caterpillars .. you see them get get fat and happy and then they all disappear ! I only have this one in the chrysalis stage by pure luck and it will be by pure luck for us to catch it at the right moment to get pictures of it emerging .. so I am stressing out about that already!
