I "need" a new clematis myself, but I told myself I wouldn't buy another large-flowered version like that one. They get clematis wilt much easier. I'll try to find another, more trust-worthy species with smaller blooms. But if I spotted that one in a garden center, I can almost guarantee I wouldn't be able to resist it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726816697009103332.post-11632520256858737532009-02-22T10:58:00.000-05:002009-02-22T10:58:00.000-05:00That is a beauty. What I do is plant the roots a bit sideways and have a piece of slate rock over it after I get the dirt in .. then on top of the slate I still put black mulch on (my garden is now a black mulch one from the red I started out with) .. I have been really lucky so far with what I am doing. I'm not really .. well, maybe a little bit of one ? The people on there are Clematis breeders & fanatics who I am sure have grown that one. You should have no trouble growing it. It is hardy in our Zone. Just remember to give it a couple of years to settle in before you expect it to put on 2 shows, though it might surprise you and do so the first year.
