Winter Quickie ?

Just a heads up with what I have to contend (from this morning) with while dreaming of SPRING ?

You might notice the Goldfinches crowded around the feeder Garden PA hooked onto our big Maple tree because he couldn't force the stand in the ground .. it , the ground, was too frozen.
We didn't want to see them go without, ergo the free-wheeling hookup with a tree branch !

Can you see the ones waiting in the tree to get to the feeder ? There were also Mourning Doves on the ground pecking at fallen seed there .. poor things don't know what to make of this weather .. almost as much as me ?

You are good people putting out seed for the birds. Winter is a jealous lover clinging to your area so tightly and throwing it's weight around. Brrrrrrrrr It is nice seeing your over all pictures of the garden despite being covered with snow. It is cold here but no snow other than a flurry here and there. This too shall pass and spring will have her way. "It won't be as long as it has been". My mantra to myself.

Hi there again Lisa .. we felt so sorry for the birds this morning .. but at least the feeder has been up a couple of days and they know where to go for some food.
I like your mantra .. I know we are closer to Spring and further away from winter .. but oh .. I wish the snow would STOP ! LOL

Those yellow finches eat a lot. I feel like I am filling that feeder all the time. I love to look at the snow. I am glad though that it is not here. LOL(-:

Yikes! Come on spring, wake up dammit! Frozen ground, snow...not my favorite kind of winter quickie but it is pretty in your pictures. Good for you for feeding the finches, they look very happy to have found your feeder.

Hello Cindee girl .. yes it is pretty to see but by this time of year I am getting a little sick of snow .. we actually have had snow squalls today too .. our little finches really tug at our heart strings for food especially this time of year with this weather. I think that is wonderful you feed them too .. it is coming up to mating season .. probably doing it right now where you are .. they need all the help they get ? LOL

Hey there Peter : ) .. yes those little birds are in need of help from us so we have to rise to the occasion ? poor little things don't know what to do with this lingering forever snow .. lord ... I don't know what to do myself ? haha

Brrr, almost a mirror image of our garden a week ago Joy Even our bird feeder is the same and constantly visited by Goldfinches, which differ a bit from your ones.

Joy, your garden it beautiful even under all that snow - its has great structure. Well done you for feeding the birds - I was waiting for new feeding supplies in the post but they never came and then I just forgot *blush*.
Loved your last post too!

Hello there Alistair .. you must have been in a bit of shock with your bad weather .. it has been a long winter for so many different areas of the world this past season.
Hopefully we are coming through the "door" now ? or soon ? haha
I think you may be confused with our Goldfinches in their "winter wear" .. they change to that brilliant yellow gold a little later on in Spring .. then they are amazing in their colour.

Carrie sweetie thank you : ) hey .. you have so much on your plate there is no need to blush girl :-) .. and Garden PA is my bird-man .. he keeps filling up that feeder and making sure they have something .. our little Mr. Chips (chipmunk) has been at his sunflower seed dish too, which surprised me early on .. he wasn't in a deep hibernation this year. Loved seeing him but always concerned for him too ? LOL

Take heart! Saw my first robin on Wednesday. Yesterday there were two love-crazed robins having it on right on the front lawn. Witch hazel continues to bloom and ground is bare. Got to Blooms yesterday. Was a good show and one I'd recommend. May those little finches beat away the rest of the snow in the garden.

Hello there OE .. yes sticky snow is magical to photograph .. I totally agree with you there .. but ? the time has come for winter to release it's grip SOON .. or else we shall all go MAD SOON ! LOL Thanks for dropping by : )

Barb girl .. I hope you looked away and gave them some privacy ? LOL ... we actually saw robins near the end of February .. when we had those three crazy days of what seemed to be SPRING and then that dream disappeared .. ugh ! .. but it does have to come eventually right?
I have to go see your post on the Blooms now ! Thanks for stopping by girl : )

It must royally SUCK to have snow so late in the season. I mean come on, Mother Nature! Spring is almost hear. Send these poor people some warm air already. I love all your goldfinches, Joy. At least there is something pretty to look at besides white. Write me an email when you can.

Hi Jennifer girl .. the snow is disappearing now but OMG ! it is cold ... -12 this morning here in Kingston (the 19th) but at least the sun is shining and that helps .. I hear the poor birds chirping too !

This is a spring that is not what I expected as far as the temperature but it will be hot gardening weather soon. I saw buds on my trees:) Hug B

We've had a few spring-like days the past two weeks, and I have a few crocuses blooming. But we're going to get hit with a winter storm tomorrow--I am so ready for winter to end, too!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hello Rose girl !.. We are supposed to stay in winter for at least another two or three weeks.. I am so DONE with this too I am going a little NUTS !!! LOL

RobinL said...

Not you too with the snow! We’ve mostly avoided snow, but it does refuse to warm up. I’m over it, and ready for warmer garden days!

Took me a while to get back here (shoveling snow ? haha) .. the snow has disappeared now but it is still quite cool , yet I got out to do a bit of clean up and fertilizing yesterday .. so much more to do , which would be easier if it was a bit more SPRING like !
