Winter ? .. I so want to kick your ASS !

I am beyond cabin fever ... all I want to do is hide in my bed and hibernate until this incredibly long COLD winter is done with ,,, isn't there some kind of pill I can take to ignore all this white wonder land that is beginning to drive even us Canadians close to insanity ??
The logical side of my brain is saying ... yes it will end and you will have your garden back.
The totally emotional side of my brain is down right FRANTIC ... how on earth will my garden come back to this ?

These are earlier pictures before the limestone pathway was put in ..... June/July  2014
It boggles my mind that these plants will truly come to life again ... my hope is a twisted ball of frantic sweat wondering can this be ?

Mean while back at the farm ... Lassie is assuring us that it will be alright ?
Lassie in the form of my watchful gargoyle .. aka "Stoneface"

AARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!

I have heard that you are having a terrible winter over there. I hope it will soon be over and that spring will be early and warm. Your garden in summer looks wonderful. It is waiting for its moment again.

Hi Joy! I haven´t been around for a while and I have to say that your garden looks fabulous in these pictures!!! But I understand you´re worried about them right now. We haven´t had any winter(yet) and that´s a bit weird... I´ll hold my thumbs that your garden will look just as great this year / Gittan

I know the feeling. Besides, looking at the blogs of people living in warmer areas does not help!

Poor thing! And here I am doing the happy dance because we might get an inch or so tomorrow (and they've closed down schools, Rah!). This will be my first snow fall this year.

Three, two, one...... and we all go racing back to the photos that show our gardens in all of their glory! Thank the stars that gardeners are also proficient and dedicated photographers! I was thrilled to see the resident Japanese Maples leafing out in the warmth of the store at work today..... now if the rest of the world would just catch up!

I've been feeling the same way. This February has been really tough. It is so darned cold I hate going outside.
On a different note, I love how that soft blue Culver's Root sits in among your plantings. I have some in the front garden, but it is in a terrible place that never shows it off. I am resolved to move it having seen it in your garden Joy.

Hi, Joy!
Winter will finish, it's really true, early or late. Better early!
Your photos of summer time in your garden are very nice, I love Japanese maple.
This painting by Edvard Munch, Norwegian artist I've seen in Oslo. I suppose he painted it during long dark winter:((

Oh your last garden photo with the grass bath between the beds is so nice! It reminds me of a garden in one of my parents homes. To stop the insanity i have been buying flowers on sale and photographing - bright flowers... hoping to warm me up!

Hang in there!! Your garden is sound asleep and will wake up well rested and watered to put on a gorgeous show. Try starting some seeds under grow lights. It's a great way to beat the winter blues. I started my first batch Jan 1 and will start another big group March 1. It keeps me from going NUTS!

Hello there Diana girl !
It has been one of the longest and more severe winters we have been suffering through, but I know it has to end some time .. right ? haha
I emailed you with my addies girl : )

Hello Sarah and thank you for stopping by (I have to have a look at your posts yet!)Thank you for the compliments on my gardens .. yes .. they are sleeping and fingers crossed all my plants will wake up on the right side of the bed come Spring ? LOL

Gittan hello there girl !! My goodness no real winter where you are is VERY strange .. hope the plants don't mind too much ? haha
Yes fingers crossed for all of us !!

Elaine girl hello there : )
This week has flown by .. it has taken me ages to get these comments up and answered ... just one of those times you are too blah ? haha Thanks girl !

Alain ... I try to avoid the blogs that do not suffer with the winter crazies .. but I slip up once in a while? .. lets hope this deep freeze ends soon and Niagara Falls flows again? LOL

Hello Martha girl ! there is so much snow in Kingston I can well imagine the flooding that will happen if we do get a lot of Spring showers .. on one hand you want it washed away but on the other I feel sorry for lower based homes that will have problems.
I want Spring NOW though !!! LOL

Leslie girl you are too cute .. you would happy dance yourself out cold if you did it here .. it cracks me up when I hear closing for an inch or two of snow in the south .. son is in South Carolina and he thinks it is a riot too !

Sweetie it is a curse as well as a blessing to have photos .. it saves your sanity yet tortures your soul when you know how much longer this process is going to take before we can touch our gardens .. BIG sigh !
I want to take better pictures this year .. I rushed through them last year, so I have to be more patient ?

Jennifer girl .. hasn't this been the worst winter in a while? .. March starts on Sunday so we inch closer.
Lavender Towers is the name of this culvers root and it is a beauty .. I love it and it exceeded my hopes on how tall it got .. a real eye candy piece indeed .. preposition yours so it will smile at you girl! : )

Nadezda girl ... I know you are right .. fingers crossed it will really happen next month .. YES !!!!! I think he had to have painted this during the dark winter months .. I so feel this way !! LOL

Hello BDD ! Yes .. buying flowers ... photographing them .. smelling them .. it all has to put a smile on your face .. I am afraid all my grass paths are limestone now though .. must do a post ion that as a reminder for myself! haha

Tammy girl ... I am hanging in but the last thing I would do is go near a seed girl (LOL .. ) both seeds and I decided my sanity and worth as a gardener was safe as long as I never go near a project of seeds ...too funny to even talk about but thanks for the suggestion ;-)

All I can think of to say is: This too shall pass. It might not help right now but you can look back in a few weeks and nod your head as the green begins to show and buds begin to swell.
xoxo Christine

Christine girl thank you for such positive thoughts but it will take a great many weeks for all of this snow to leave .. maybe by June ? LOL
I am jealous of your beautiful shots you have taken way over there and that header picture is always so stunning!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who just wants to hibernate this winter:) I can't blame you for wanting to see your gorgeous garden in full bloom once again, Joy. Take a deep breath, have a cup of tea, look through some gardening books, and remember that winter can't last much longer ... I hope.

Ah...one day somewhere around May it will all be gone.

Meanwhile you have your gorgeous garden photos to look at. Right?

Now Joy, stop burying your head in the snow...Joy?

I'm trying to keep my sanity, but this winter is enough to try anyone's patience! I barely leave the house, can't bear to run the every day errands, and would just as soon hibernate. How on earth will our gardens come back to life, when the world is still frozen solid? Argh!

Why have I never noticed that amazing Veronica before!! what a standout plant. I put one of these in last year and I can only hope it looks that good a year or two.

p.s. winter will go away at some point, I promise. it might not be until July but it will go. ;-)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Rose girl thank you very much ... I do have to remember that it will go away ... at some point .... BIG sigh!
Yes .. garden sites and magazines help a wee bit .. mean while at the back at the crazy house ? haha

Jen girl .. I have to bury my head some where right ? in a cool place is too easy right now but so sick of winter .. but amazingly it is 4 degrees right now out there .. after being so brutal, hard to believe maybe it is a trick ?

Robin girl I thought I was the only one that hated to go out .. I really began to think I had a mental problem .. well aside from my usual nuttiness .. it will change at some point but I just don't want to look at WHITE any more !!

Marguerite girl that is it's second year and it has been amazing .. I have the regular white one but I am so glad I wanted to try this one ..I hope yours treats you to a real show too!! ... some plants just make you gasp a bit eh ?
I think you are right about July .. there is so much snow ploughed up against where I planted daffs .. I won't see them until that time I am sure !

Joy, I know you have been hit hard this year! But take heart, if spring is actually arriving in the West, it MUST be on its way to Ontario!! :)
(The Calgary CBC posted a picture of a buttercup today--my heart jumped!)

And, thank you for posting the pics of your garden--it is so gorgeous!!

OHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOO That's just ridiculous. Do you make it down for Canada Blooms? If you are let me know & we'll have some coffee. I've been drinking wine by the bucket - winter seems mellower and my trousers are tighter. Signed up for WW and am on the wagon, or sleigh I guess. Am ready for it all to be over very, very, very soon.

Ms S you are too sweet, thank you : )
I can't even imagine seeing a buttercup! .. Our snow removal company ploughed so much snow over where I planted my daffs .. I surely won't see them till end of June, maybe July?
But I am holding on .... BIG sigh.

OMG ... Barb you have cracked me up girl .. well I am cracked anyways but you are too funny ! If I could drink I would be swimming in the stuff!
I bought all sorts of "healthy" crap as in raw nuts and seeds lots of fresh fruit .. I wanted to dive into the chocolate Easter candy but by some miracle I didn't .. BIG sigh>
Wish I could make it down there for the Bloom but can't .. would have been a hoot talking to you though girl ! Irish coffees all round ? LOL
