The Dove Breakfast

I know this may be too bright a shot with the morning sun .. but our little guys were enjoying their breakfast as I was my coffee .. so of course I had to snap them in action. Thankfully the forecasted snowstorm for yesterday did NOT develop .. it was so windy for them though .. they must be tired of fighting the weather.

Lovely shot, Joy, the sun gives it a golden glow, magical! My daughter has a dove sitting on a nest of eggs in her climbing rose bush beside her back deck. We are hoping to get a peek at the babies when they hatch.

The photo is nice. I like to think about you sitting there drinking your coffee and watching the birds feast outside. Homey. I would be drinking tea.~~Dee

It was very windy here too yesterday. It was 60 degrees, but it sure didn't feel like it with the wind.

It's beautiful today - 46 so far and sunny, calm winds. It feels warmer today than it did yesterday.

Very nice shot of the doves Joy!

Doves look so helpless, but they're really quite tough. I've never seen a dove nest that didn't look like a disaster waiting to happen, yet every year they manage to produce a BUNCH of fledglings.

Probably a lesson in that somewhere, perhaps God does hold doves in the palm of his hand.

Nancy .. I'm laughing over that comment .. a disaster waiting to happen .. yes, one year I was agonizing over a nest right across from my kitchen window in my neighbor's gutter .. I hated to see what was going to happen when the rains came .. I was sending telepathic messages for mama to make another nest .. LOL .. nope .. got washed out but didn't see any casualties .. phew !

Thanks garden girl .. I did like the way the sun was shining .. they looked more than happy to pose for the shot : )

Hi Dee .. one of the best features of this house is the morning sun .. I really like having my coffee .. Sophie having her breakfast .. and us both watching the doves !

Frances .. I told hubby about the dove nest in the roses .. he was amazed .. maybe the thorn issue got to him ? LOL
You guys have such nice weather right now .. I'm really jealous .. we are going to be like race horses at the gate when we get that weather too !

Coo that's a good shot! I thought I'd hop over and leave a comment whilst you're over at my place!

Hi Joy, what a pretty shot with the sun and those darling doves. Best of all, I could hardly see any snow! What gives? Did it disappear over night?

That is a very good shot of the doves. I like that golden look, too.

I am not surprised that they sleep in the seeds. Quite often, the ones here are asleep on the edge of the birdbath.

Those doves are so beautiful! Sadly I had to stop feeding the birds because it encouraged grey squirrels who came and dug everything up and killed it! either plants.. or squirrels. I chose my veggies!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hi Matron .. we don't have a big problem with squirrels, so far .. and we have lots of snow on the ground .. so the doves have our sympathy vote with the seed until the garden comes to life with bugs and what not for them. I can understand your dilema though.

gardenpath .. they are strange little souls aren't they .. I find them very touching .. can't help but help them out a bit.

Hey melanie .. don't worry .. we have LOTS of snow still .. that shot just doesn't focus in on it. But at least the snow storm they predicted yesterday didn't happen .. phew !

I think it is a lovely shot - I love the warm amber glow of the sun. Doves are so calming.

I've noticed mourning doves around my yard the past week. They are so elegant. I wish I could catch a photo of them too.

I think the picture is beautful. We have a pair of Doves hanging out in our front yard. They are so pretty.

Nice photo of the doves. I'm sure you know (or at least, I've been told and I believe it) that doves mate for life. I saw a pair along the edge of a highway. One had been killed and the other was pacing around next to it. It made me cry.

Your little doves are so pretty and it must be very nice to have them as company while you are enjoying your cup of coffee.

Lovely pic!

Nice photo. I have dozens of these Mourning Doves hanging around my garden. I guess they are everywhere. I don't encourage them, especially this time of year when they start building nests, or trying to. They are very poor as nest builders and they choose the worst locations--doomed to failure--and will start over, and over and over in the same dumb location. Bird-brained I guess.

Hi Aiyana .. you are the second person to say they make "disaster nests" .. I wonder why they are such poor builders ?

Hi Yolanda .. it is peaceful .. sipping coffee and watching them on the banister .. nice start to the day.

Hi Shady .. yes, it is sad to see that happen. They are so devoted .. so solitary in that manner.

Hi Debbie .. we have a threesome usually .. it is an odd combination .. a kid ? who won't leave home ? LOL

Hi Brenda .. I think these guys are used to us now. They have been coming for a few years. But .. Sophie can make them a bit skittish at the door.

Hi Phillip .. Thanks ! .. I think the warmth of the sun was just right after all .. light values in a picture can be tricky.

Hey joy,

Nice photo...I love doves and their cooing ways!
As I type this I can see the photo of Sophie giving you the cat cold shoulder...such a cat behavior! Coal is sitting next to me snoring. Did you know cats can snore?

Stop by for coffee and chocolate later!

Gail

Hi Gail .. Sophie had fun on craft paper just now .. almost unrolled the whole tube.
Oh yes .. I know cats snore .. we had a beautiful Humane Society, Calico , Lucy, was her name .. we just lost her in January .. the ache is still fresh yet .. but yes .. she could snore louder than my husband .. and thatis saying something !
I'm coming over for that chocolate and coffee ! LOL

Sense of humour a MUST. Take a look at my little weather gargoyle and know I have been mocked by him numerous times !

I am not a little weathered gargoyle!

The doves look happier. It must be that ACME birdseed recommended by Wile E. Coyote. It can't be the weather since it hasn't improved much.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Wiseacre .. do you really believe we will ever have Spring .. or maybe just slam dunked into summer.
How did you know that was where I picked up my special bird seed .. heavens to betsy .. I eat it too !

Interesting reading all the comments about how bad doves are at building nests. I had my first experience with nesting doves last year when a pair tried to build in my oak tree. I would see broken eggs underneath it all the time. When I finally located the nest, I realized why. I don't know how a baby could have stayed in either. It's a wonder there are so many around!

Hi Kathleen .. that is a great question .. how the heck do they survive their parent's nests ? .. I guess when they do , they are tough as boots and live a long time ? LOL
