Tulipa Tarda ????

First I apologise to anyone expecting to see a really nice picture of Tuilpa Tarda. This picture is taken from the living room window , in the rain, and .. ok .. dirty window to boot. I have had them in my file (the Tarda) ... some where .. but for now I am scratching my head trying to figure out if it is them that are forcing their fingers out to the open air, even in this last of the snow and ice in the front garden bed. A memory of exactly where they are is hiding .. some where. I know they are not tulips .. the squirrel mafia and I have come to an agreement .. no digging in the front due to no "SNACKING" temptations offered .. except that these might be the Tarda .. guess I have to wait and see.

I can't wait to see bare ground, and I'll be ecstatic to see Tulips coming up! I planted Tulipa 'Flava', some mixed ones called 'Peacock', all supposed to be species types. I'm hoping the squirrels have left me a few..*sigh*

blue fox .. I think these survived the squirrels by pure luck .. although they aren't a typical "tulip" .. maybe they don't taste as good as the real deal tulip ? LOL

Hey nestinstyle .. my front bed takes longer to get rid of the snow .. it gets afternoon sun .. plus the snow blower throws snow that way too. I am really suprised to see these great signs of life there .. so much to do when I can get in there though ! Yikes !
I think some where like May 8th is the last predicted frost date.

Hi Mark .. Yup .. the squirrels and I have a stand off for now .. you never know with that crew though .. once they start a vendetta .. well .. you know it will be me as the loser .. haha
You think gardeners would be more detailed about their plants wouldn't you ? LOL

Hmmm, Joy, I don't think this would be T. tarda--they're a later blooming variety (hence tarda in the name) and the foliage is quite narrow, unlike a lot of tulips. Did you plant other species tulips? My brain is a bit weary tonight (long day and seem to be fighting flu or maybe just the FM) but did you plant any T. greigii, like 'Red Riding Hood' or 'Chopin'? If the foliage is mottled with wine stripes when it opens up, it is probably a greigii variety, though I only know a couple of them off the top of my noggin. Drat those squirrels...

Hi Jodi .. this is going to drive me nuts for a while .. I did have Tarda there (but yes .. I thought their foliage was more strap like, narrow) .. Red Ridinghood ( I think I had some but I could have sworn I kept them near the back garden .. boy, my body does one thing my brain thinks another ?).. or has the squirrel mafia replanted them on me ? LOL .. I guess I have to wait and see what the heck it is for sure !
I'm sorry you are feeling not so great .. it could be the FM rearing its ugly head .. you have been through excitement of that handsome boy added to your family .. so busy with writing .. it takes its toll .. rest up girl !
