Alternanthera 'Party Time' /Aphrodite Alyssum

I found the most remarkable annual plant I have seen this year. I had never heard of it before and certainly I have never seen it ! The foliage is amazing .. one of those plants like coleus that it is all about the leaf colours, forget the actual flower ? Cherry of Cherry in the Garden also found a variation of the same plant in her Saturday plants (posted above this one) .. I was simply bowled over by the colours .. like those birds that collect shiny objects ? .. also an Alyssum called "Aphrodite Mix" that I hadn't seen before .. two stumpers for me that day .. so I potted them together .. explains the sad shocked look to the pictures ? .. I'm a collector .. what can I say ?

Now that one I can grow as long as I keep it in the shade and damp. It is so pretty. I love the way you potted it up.

Joy, the local university uses Alternanthera quite a bit. We were touring and the head of Horticulture told us all to take clippings and that they would grow instantly. That was a few years ago and they had a lovely deep red variety.

melanie .. I wonder why I haven't seen it before ? .. I'm sure I would have noticed. There are so many different kinds of these .. I mistook this for Joseph's Coat at first .. then tracked it down to Party Time .. maybe because I don't pay a lot of attention to annuals it was looked over ? haha

hello! I'm andrea and I work at Angelo's garden centre in Vaughan! My blog spot is http://populargrowth.blogspot.com and I fell across this while looking for this particular variety's name (for the life of me, I lost my plug book which gave me the correct spelling. Thanks for the spelling on this AND to know that you're so close is great! It's nice to blog with a fellow local canadian gardener. I list newer varieties or just varieties of interest. Havn't posted for a few days because, well, we're a little busy but hopefully I'll get something up tonight! Look forward to seeing more! Take Care :D
