Exposing ... my front fears ?

I try not to be a superstitious gardener .. well .. most of the time ? .. I think we all have our quirks don't we ? .. I am leery of being boastful of my glorious front bed with all the different colours, shapes and textures .. I guess you can say I'm smitten with these babies here. BUT .. I worry about freak weather now .. last year after that hail storm ripped this bed apart .. I started getting edgy about weather .. not that I didn't do that almost all the time as a gardener .. but seriously edgy ...
I don't know how people who live in such alarming areas, like "Tornado Ally" or hurricane prone areas, do it .. they must have a knot in their stomachs all the time perhaps without even knowing it ? .. a few dark clouds .. some gusting wind and your hair must stand on end . They have my absolute and utter respect for hanging in making those areas their homes, and no bones about it. I just had a small taste and I will never forget that fear . Their perseverance is astonishing.

Oh, wow, Joy, how beautiful!!!! You have every right to be boastful. Ooh, ooh!!! (But I know what you mean. The pride of my creekside shade garden is a huge, superb 'Great Expectations' hosta, with lusciously multi-variegated, puckered leaves that are actually larger than dinner plates--more like chargers. My heart swells when I look at those leaves, but then I think, one critter charging through there and it's all over...

My gosh, I think I've fallen in love with the look of the cool, smooth hosta leaves against the hotter heucheras. jade-like smoothness of the hosta leaves against the heuchera. That's a GREAT combination.

Those pictures are lovely - so many colours and textures blending together.
Hope the weather stays good!

Thanks "easy" .. it has become more of a shade garden now that our maple tree is really filling out .. we wanted that because this is the hot side of the house with the sun in the afternoon .. makes it easy on our AC unit too !
Fingers crossed with the weather : )

Hi there Jared .. YES ! .. my plan of 4 years ago is actually coming together .. I think I nailed it ? LOL .. got ideas from lots of info and gardeners on the net .. so I am grateful !

Hi Rose .. thank you .. I'm a little nervouse about weather now ..hope we don't have the same thing lurking around the corner.

Thank you "ben" .. your hosta sounds beautiful ! .. and yes, we sort of hold our breath when we get it just right .. I broke down and bought another hosta yesterday .. a little pricey but I think it is going to be just right .. smaller but gold with green edging .. I'll post about it when I get it in. I would love to see yours !

Thanks alot Joy, now my keyboard is all covered in drool.

Just stunning combinations here. I never bought one of the orangish Heuchera but you have totally changed my mind on that account.

Got to get out of this chair and get dressed and get to the nursery to buy something now!

What a beautiful, magical tapestry of colors. I can almost see the fairies floating about :-) It looks so serene and so inviting... And sooo moderate in climate, I envy you! We have a heat wave weighing down on us this week, and its so bad I can only garden (and breathe) in the evening hours, it's mental!

Thanks Debbie .. it seems to be working out pretty well .. I see a few tweaks I have to make .. but hey .. nothing is ever going to stay the same .. right ?

Violet .. we are lucky right now for some reason .. we do get the oppressive heat and humidity .. that is when I can only do my gardening in the very early morning then hide in the house with the AC most of the day .. so I know what you mean girl !

melanie .. hey, I have drooled over your pictures and had to wipe off my keyboard area .. tricky on a lap top ! .. I caught these heucheras early on .. in very small pots .. and wow .. a few years BANG they do look wonderful ! You HAVE to have some too !
