Godzilla of coneflowers or Rudbeckia nitida 'Herbstonne'

I borrowed this title from Canning Perennials because it was just so perfect ! I planted one single smallish specimen last summer and by Autumn I had a giant (seemed that way to me at the time) .. now this year I can just imagine how much of a WOW ! hello big boy ! .. this puppy is going to be (should I have said kitty for the girls, Sophie and Emma ?) .. in any case .. this picture of it now may look innocent enough .. but wait till the Autumn .. it is going to be an eyeful ! Herbstonne

Isn't it fun to watch your babies grow up? Like little people, garden plants don't always turn out the way we'd hoped. Perhaps I enjoy gardening all the more because I can continue to tinker and even terminate plants that don't please me.
I planted a green goddess in the shallow end of my fish pond to replace a voracious white calla. Turns out I planted the godzilla of callas, and now each year I have to chop out a good 3/4th of the plant to prevent it from overtaking the pond. Now, I have green goddess lilies all over the place.

Joy, I am heading to my mom's memorial service and it has been getting to me more than I thought...I am pretty scattered, okay, but scattered! My posts don't have any kick!

Glad you are here.

Gail .. don't worry about your posts girl .. you have a lot to deal with .. take care of yourself first .. we will all be here, still reading your blog, so be patient with yourself !

WS .. you name still slays me ! LOL
It is totally unpedictable at times what will happen with plants we think we have a handle on .. this godzilla of mine may be more than I can manage later on .. but for now, it will help as a privacy screen (too close to neighbors .. ugh !) .. yours sounds like a full time project .. now that is a lot to hack ! haha

Hi Joy, I love your recent pictures. I had the giant rudbeckia, but had to move it because of it's giantness.

I am missing your posts on Blotanical. Where are we? What gives. It seems like it is a Blogger thing.
