Plant Pearls

I don't know how many times I have thought of plants in my garden as jewels. Today over at the "Rock and Roll Gardener" Neza posted about a shrub that the University of Minnesota had created (working on hardy plants for zone 4). Exochorda serratifolia,
common name: Pearlbush 'Northern Pearls' looks some what like a mock orange but it isn't. The flower buds line up like a string of pearls.
The funny thing was, as I read Neza's post, I thought of my Chardonnay Pearls Deutzia that I was actually going to post some pictures of at the same time. Then I thought of my little anemone sylvestris that sort of look like large pearls drooping from its flower stalks. I also have variegated Solomon's Seal or Polygonatum odoratum 'Variegatum' in the same area .. its buds aren't quite as round as the pearl shape should be, but they hang like jewels from those gorgeous stalks.
I think if we really took the time, we would see more jewels in our gardens that we ever thought we had ?

I love it- great observation; and thanks for mentioning my post. It looks like we're "Dripping in Pearls". That could be a whole subject..."Jewels of the Garden".

Your pearls add elegance to your garden, especially the solomon's seal. I love the way they drape down from the arching stems. I almost picked some giant solomon's seal up this weekend, but I wasn't sure where to put them, since they were over 1 metre tall. Now,seeing how pretty yours look, I wish I had. Time to start rearranging plants and make some room.

I love my gigantic mass of the variegated Solomon's seal--what a marvelous spreader! And I just discovered the deutzia at my brother's garden when I was in D.C. a couple of weekends ago, cunningly hidden in all the heritage iris but still beyond beautiful. Now I'm determined to add it to the Hawk's Haven gardens! Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos and bringing these great plants to our computers. Virtual gratification!!!

'ben" .. I have such a soft spot for the Solomon's Seal .. my garden is small and restricted right now (yet we are going to get rid of the wood border and take over more LAWN ->-> yipppeee !) so the SS may have more room to spread .. the deutzia .. well when those small pearls open to tiny star flowers .. it is amazing ! I know you are going to love them too at Hawk's Haven : )
