A Happy Ending

Well .. I went to bed hoping to heaven that mom would come back .. (I am in bed too early to tell you guys .. haha) ..
But when I got up this morning (also very early .. always before hubby) ... hubby left a note by the coffee pot, saying that he sat out in the truck in the driveway waiting an hour to see if the miracle would happen .. around 10:30 she was up on the roof making her way to the 'angle ? area where the box MINUS the door was .. she retrieved baby in mouth and climbed down to the lawn and walked up the street with (happy) baby, into a green area behind other houses.
So ... I, & 'we" are too relieved and glad this is over with a happy ending as far as we can tell. Pro-Man was over around 5 AM this morning doing a temp patch over the little door area to keep any other creatures out, until he does the complete repair job ..

This has been a series of events we would NEVER have guessed would ever happen to us. Pro-Man who has been in the business for over 18 years has never seen anything like it .. 'mom' was so clean while in our attic she left NO indication she, let alone babies were there .. it makes me think she was so desperate to find a safe place for her and her babies, she was that careful not to be a nuisance ?
My heart goes out to these animals that are losing these green spaces almost on a monthly basis. Kingston is growing so quickly. Faster in the last few years than ever before .. we used to live in almost a semi country area .. now we have so many more stores (in what were marshlands) and houses/apartments within walking distance of our neighborhood, it is becoming overwhelming.
I'm not preaching here .. I'm just struck by it all so much more now, because of our experience. No home owner wants to have a 'creature" problem with their home. But now I shudder to think where are the homes of these creatures disappearing to at such an incredible rate that they can't get out of the way of what is happening ?
I am so relieved this is over for us .. but it strikes my heart that it is far from over for them.

Thank God, Joy! Your horror story has turned into a heartwarming family saga. I'm glad it worked out well for all concerned!

Oh I am so happy she came back and got the baby. I bet it was so happy too(-: Glad its over for you and I know you have been through enough already!!!! It is sad that their habitat is going away. I feel so bad for animals that have lost their homes. I guess more and more will move into the neighborhoods and make themselves at home there.

I am soooooo happpy about how things turned out. How sweet the way 'mom' came back for her little one. What a wonderful way to start the day... Looks like mommy was looking for a safe place to give birth when she chose your home (much to your dismay, of course), and then she planned to be on her way. This has the making of a movie; one of those family films that makes everyone feel good with its happy ending...LOL... It could be about animals losing their 'green' spaces, and about one mother-to-be's story as she struggles with the urban sprawl. Of course she'd have to be a single mom, making it that much more heartbreaking...LOL...

And I agree with you that the poor animals are losing their homes/spaces. Poor things...

Joy,

Hooray...they are gone! Finally! What an adventure!

It is terribly sad that we have displaced all the greenery and there are no homes for wild things...it makes it so important for homeowners who have the space and desire to provide some green space for raccoons, possums and other creatures (someone else take on the deer) to live. I can do that in my yard, it's a suburban lot, but an old one with over an acre and about 4 dozen canopy trees! I don't think everyone should do this ...but I wanted to make this commitment and there's the added bonus of there being less lawn mowing! Thanks Joy! For letting me post!

Now you can thoroughly enjoy your garden and not be distracted by the attic problem!

WR .. YES ! .. there is a message to all of this uproar ..single mom desperate to give birth in a safe place .. that being said safe place not a long term one for a raccoon family .. I'm just so glad this ended as well as we know so far .. I feel so badly that she might have such dangers ahead of her trying to keep her little ones together .. life is hard on all creatures including us ? .. I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster from hell ! .. flopping time again ? LOL

Cindee .. having hubby sit there and watch it play out was a wonderful thing .. to know mom came back and took her little one hopefully to a safer place but they are disappearing so fast .. it is happy and sad at the same time ...

Thanks 'ben" .. we are so relieved .. fingers crossed they will be ok too .. you just never know do you .. something like this happening drives the point home about how precious life is and how it can all be blown away in an instant. I think my 'emotional" brain side is truly FRIED now : )

Gail .. you weren't in with the other posts .. sometimes that happens and I wonder if some comments are still floating in cyber space ?? LOL

Yes .. it really tugged at my heart .. and hubby's too when we thought about green spaces disappearing because of residential and commercial buildings shooting up like crazy .. we used to be so quiet on this side of Kingston .. now we are caught in the fray of frantic building ..
I think that is so wonderful of you to be able to have your space to share with these animals .. if we could we would .. I so hope mom and babies will be ok .. it just strikes you so deeply after going through something like this.
Thanks for such a good post Gail !

I have been following your saga for the past few days now.I prayed for a happy ending. Thank goodness mama came back and got her baby. You are right in being concerned as to where our creatures are making thier homes with the rise of developments and shopping areas. I too live in a semi-country area and I am seeing more and more homes and shopping areas popping up.

Oh, I am so glad momma got her other baby. I hope she found some other safe place to raise them.

Darlene .. we so hope that she was able to find a safe place too .. call us soft touches but how could anyone else not wish these desperate moms trying to keep their babies safe .. a place out of harm's way ? .. thanks for staying tuned girl ! : )

Hi Laurie .. thanks for reading to the happy ending (as far as we know) .. it is a real jolt to the system to truly get the picture of where the heck are these animals supposed to go with all of this development ? .. it will always be a nagging concern in the back of my head now since we had an up close and personal experience with this.

Nancy .. it does strike home when you go through an experience like this .. we wnted the raccoon(s) out but we didn't wish them harm .. we had a professional who felt the same way .. I am glad this is resolved but worry how they will survive at the same time .. it can be an intensly sad situation.
