Love that 'indigo" !

This year my 'False Blue Indigo" seems to have finally felt at home and has grown to massive proportions. So much so that Richard my 'Pro-Pruner" guy went out and got himself another one after seeing mine .. I just loved hearing his compliments .. I'm such a sap at times .. blush blush. In any case (enough of the gushing eh ?) .. now is the time for the seed pods to turn that amazing black and the rattling of the seeds within the pods is just amazing .. talk about a baby rattle .. the noise ! I want to save some for 'black' plants in my Halloween planter (I have to get some of the Purple Fountain grass soon before everyone in Kingston buys it up on me) .. my garden is maturing .. some what like me ... only in the physical sense mind you .. inside my garden and myself are still bratty kids getting into mischief .. it will be that way until the day I pop my clogs !

I just liked this shot because of the in and out of focus with the leaves so crisp and fresh looking and the rudbeckia that shinning yellow peeking through in the back ground.

I like the last photo too. Usually you see flowers with leaves in the background. I like the reverse effect.

I love those deep purple pods on your False Indigo. What an interesting plant. Hmmm...another one for my wish list next year? Maybe so. :)

Joy, they're gorgeous plants with great foliage with and without bloom. Yours look great with the rudbeckias peeking through, the coneflowers in the background, and with those wonderful seed pods. Beautiful shots!

My one and only remaining purple smoke baptisia is languishing. Boo hoo. I hope it makes it. If not I'll be trying the blue instead. Oh what the heck, I might get a blue regardless of the fate of purple smoke. I just know the buy one get one free sale is coming up soon at the nursery.

garden girl .. sometimes I wonder if new cultivars of old favorites just aren't up to the job .. they are gorgeous and we really want them but some how things don't work out ? .. I have had my eye on some of the new varieties and now I wonder if they too would languish. You have to have the old standard blue one !! It will flourish : )

PG .. you realy have to have one of these ! So make sure to put it on your list .. I know you will be amazed by it too : )

Nancy .. it took a few years for it to grow to this size .. but it has been well worth it. I'm not a very patient person but I'm glad I let this plant do its own thing ?

Jane Marie Thanks ! .. I thought it was a good role reversal too ? : )

Don't know if I'm familiar with that plant. But I love the contrast. Can't have too many plants with those deep colors in the garden with so much green.

Hi there mother nature (nice talking to you ! LOL) .. yup .. it is a very quirky character of this plant seed pod .. makes you smile when you shake it too ! : )

Brenda .. first you get those deep blue flowers, something like sweet pea .. then they develop into these seed pods that darken in late summer .. it is an all season plant really.

Baptisia is one of my 10 must-have perennials. It has it all: Great form, great foliage, great flowers, great seedpods, great fall color (bright yellow leaves). What a plant!!! And it has the added value of nostalgia, since it's one of the plants I remember from my great-aunt's garden when I was a mere infant. Glad yours is thriving!
