"Bee" Still !

I'm not sure what kind of "bee" this is .. if it is actually in the bee family or not. These little guys are so preoccupied with their duties they don't mind close up shots at all. In fact I think they have a bit of "bee DIVA" blood in them ?

I don't think you can look at insects the same way before you were a dyed in the wool gardener as to after you have really felt closer to nature when you create a little piece of your own Eden. Insects play such important roles in how a garden thrives .. for the good and bad of course. To know the "good" it has to be contrasted with the bad .. such as my number one and two evil nemesis ? how do you phrase and spell the plural ?.. aphids and earwigs ... UGH !!!!!!

I so agree. Before I was a gardener, they were just "pests." Now I understand how vital they are. And that we need to appreciate what they do.

Insects very definitely have to be considered as being a part of any garden -- for better or for worse. I find it reassuring to see them in my garden (earwigs & all).

Oh -- I couldn't resist checking this out. The plural of "nemesis" is "nemeses" ( http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=53352&dict=CALD).

Garden Life .. Yes ! They are wonderful creatures and I appreciate them very much too !

Hi kd .. I just knew there had to be a plural .. thanks ! LOL
I really could live without aphids and earwigs though .. Big sigh ! LOL

Hi Brenda .. yes, until you are "connected" with the earth in some manner ... you really don't get the big picture .. and I am sure there are more big pictures out there I still haven't gotten ? LOL

I'm by no means an expert on bees, but that one sure looks like a good old fashioned honey bee.

Those bees are quite happy on your sedums Joy! I love watching the wildlife that visits my garden. Your new header is fantastic.

Thanks for visiting my site ( http://tokyo5.wordpress.com )...and the nice comment.

I'm not a gardener. But my wife has a small garden on our porch (hard to have a big one in a large metropolis).

I like Japanese gardens though.
Have you seen these posts on my site:

and

(and a few others)

Thanks again.

Hi again Tokyo5 .. Just saw those pictures .. what a gorgeous place ! it is an amazing lifestyle in Japan .. especially in such a large populated city .. it would take some getting used to ! LOL

Hi there perennialgardener ! Thanks ! I get a kick out of that picture everytime I look at it myself : ) .. we have some "drunk" Bluejays here because our grapes are so sweet and ripe .. now if only he would stay still long enough for me to snap a picture of him too !

Hi Giddy .. I'm still hearing the Bluejays screaming here .. they are so noisy ! These little bees are different than the big fat round fuzzy bumbly ? bees that are here too .. these seem a little more waspy ? in their build. But they didn't try to get at me so I am happy : )

That's the great thing about blogs - pulled out my bug book and was amazed at the different numbers of bees and their colouring and habits - looks like a honey bee to me too. Love those pussy cats!

I'm pretty sure your bee is a honey bee. They used to be very common, now, not so much.

I enjoyed the previous post too. It does look like something from an Adam's family bouquet.

Joy, I have taken so many pictures of insects and posted them on my blog this summer that I think I have turned into a "Bug Lady"! Who knew a year ago that I would be so interested in insects:) They do like the sedum, don't they?

Hi Rose
Yes ! I have noticed that about your site and that is great ! : )
I'm interested too .. but at a distance ? LOL .. They are an important element in our gardens but I like to give them lots of room .. I have noticed that there are way more spiders this year too .. have you ?
