Pumpkin #1 Day

Today is officially the start of Pumpkin Days for me. Hubby picked up this little guy along with some local Mac apples from a little country store (buy local ! after being bombarded with that theme forever ?) .. In any case , this little guys is gorgeous and I can't wait to collect more members for the rest of the "pumpkin family" that will sit in grandeur ? on my front entrance way .. yahooo ! its pumpkin season : )

The all important pumpkin "handle" is in good nick ... phew ! Have you ever picked up a pumpkin by it's handle (which is a NO NO ) and have it crash to the ground ? .. truly an embarrassing moment.

These orange beauties are everywhere now! I just got a beautiful one a few days ago for $3at a local orchard. After I enjoy looking at it for a few more days, I plan on chopping it up for various recipes, including this one provided by a fellow blogger:

Good timing. I just posted a gourd photo too. Stop by my place and pull my finger. Don't worry the spores are gone.

The pumpkin is great, but the snail behind it is even greater! Is it made from ceramic? Love it!

Isn't it exciting! We currently have 4 larger size pumpkins and 3 small ones. I love pumpkins too - always watching for one with a bit of 'character'. I save ideas from the internet and magazines for decorating and carving and will am planning a 'carving party' just before Halloween.

Go Joy!!! We've decided to extend the season's excitement by purchasing just a single ornament for our harvest display at our local farmers' market each week. Last week, I bought a marvelous huge white pumpkin with orange veining, unbelievably striking. Yesterday, I bought an incredible mum to match. But of course (over loud protests from a certain quarter; are you reading this, Ben?!) I had to buy red and gold popcorn ears to hang everywhere, too. I figure we can always pop them when the season is over! Meanwhile, I'm already looking forward to next week's addition to the display---maybe a grogeous white pumpkin or a 'Rouge Vif d'Etampes' or a contrasting mum...---Silence

I drove by a stand of a roadside orchard today and there was a wagon load of pumpkins that made me think of you.

Hi Crafty .. now those are some of the best places to find unusual pumpkins .. they are my kind of places .. and the more the unusual the pumpkin the BETTER ! haha

Brenda .. a good pumpkin hunt is so satisfying I can't begin to explain .. almost as good as a great piece of FUDGE !!! haha

bjb .. Thank you for dropping by my blog ! and Autumn .. is truly "my" season .. it doesn't get any better .. so Happy Autumn to you as well : )

Silence .. I am so jealous ! We have done that type of thing too, but believe it or not .. we had the most unusual pale green almost silver huge gourd (looked like a UFO !) .. had it on the front entrance with other pumpkins and some one stole it .. I was so MAD !
I love you combination of colours and it must look amazing .. sure wish you would show a picture ? LOL

Shirley .. that is what my plan is too .. lots of different sizes .. shapes ... characteristics .. I am more excited doing this than Xmas decorations ! haha

Katarina .. hi ! .. thanks ! .. the snail is actually cast iron and is beginning to weather really well .. almost like copper with a greenish tinge .. he is a favorite of mine too : )

perennialgardener .. the wheels have a plan girl ! .. now if I can find all the things I need to put it together ? that would be great ! : )

Dear Mr. WiseA*** ... I lay awake some nights worrying about that finger of yours .. glad to hear most ? of the spores have gone back home ? LOL I'll have to see your gourd for sure !

Hi W2W ! ... I know there are some fantastic recipes out there for pumpkins .. but I always have a struggle actually doing it to the poor thing .. like Linus said to Lucy "I didn't know you were going to kill it!!" haha

Crafty .. it is going to take some real thought picking the rest of my "family" out ? LOL

Andrea .. that blanking song gets stuck in my head and drives me crazy .. I'm coming over there to smack you girl !!! LOL

Deb ... Autumn would NOT be Autumn without these perfect orange fellows .. and gals ? I have always been in love with them .. like Linus .. I can't what for the GREAT Pumpkin to come !!!

Cindee .. hope it is cooler there for you now .. we have a rain day .. tis week will be pumpkin week for sure .. and a bit of hay .. and maybe some other ? things too !

Debbie .............. I don't know if I can do THAT to my friends ? LOL

Hi Joy, what a perfect pumpkin!

The pumpkins came in at the nursery this week, and boy was I glad I wasn't working the day they came! It's quite a workout unloading all those pumpkins!

It looks so cool at the nursery now with all the hay bales, halloween decorations, pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, mums, pansies, and ornamental cabbages, greens, grasses. . . Don't you just love Fall!
