Sign of Summer Wrapping Up

I started a couple of weeks ago to begin the "shut down" phase of my garden year. Pots are the first to get the heave ho , especially if they have become too scary looking to me .. something like Frankenstiens little monsters out of control ?
You know the ones .. you run over, water them really fast and run away from them ? .. BIG sigh.
Then it will be the empty the shed mission to clean it out and organize it at least enough so we don't run screaming from it in the Spring .. I have to share with a "Fisherman'Golf Guy" .. so we are divided on our what goes where throwing ! ..

Now is also the time to get my book out and make notes at each section of the garden on what I should or should not do .. for 9 years I have meant to do that .. can I possibly FINALLY accomplish the task ? JEEZ !

It's that time of the year again, already? :) I've been doing some fall chores already too, the earlier I get started the better. Otherwise I lose motivation around October. :)

Hi pgl .. I am with you on that one .. October is my FUN month (that Halloween thing I have) so I want to get the chores out of the way in September .. and have a clear mind set thinking the path to next Spring will be easier ? LOL
I have found one thing .. as the garden matures and gets bigger .. I have to get more creative with the tidy up ? haha

I have been doing some cleanup too. I try to keep a list of plants that worked really well for me and I'll definitely get it again next year. I'm interested to know what your favorite plant was this year?

I can't believe another summer/gardening season has come and gone. It's amazing how short Canadian summers can be. But I am enjoying the fall season with all its pretty colours. Hallowe'en is just around the corner, which always brings an abundance of cool stuff with it at the stores. Believe it or not, I have a three foot tall skeleton (from last Hallowe'en) sitting on the rocking chair in my living room that we named "Mr. Bones". He's so cool-looking, we decided to leave him there year long. He adds character to the room – and he’s certainly a conversation piece LOL…. We’ve gotten so used to him being a part of our household that a few days ago, while walking through the Hallowe'en section at Zellers, I thought to myself: "Hmmm...I wonder if Mr. Bones would like a Mrs. Bones this year…" LOL... It’s a fun time of year for sure!

WR !!! ... my god I am still laughing at Mr. S, sitting in a rocker all year round .. now that says you are a Halloween gal for sure ! LOL ... I have 4 or 5 ft ones we hang in our Maple tree .. a HUGE witch broom I bought in Holland with lots of lights .. well it goes on and on .. I vote that Mr. needs a Mrs. ! hahaha
PS .. yes .. I too have Halloween bits and pieces out all year too : )

Louise I think that would be a great post subject ! .. I'll have to think of that today now because I love so many plants .. it is hard to nail down .. thanks for asking .. I have to get my brain in gear now ! : )

Oh no, I'm not ready to dump all my pots yet! I like to leave them as long as possible, and a few even stay put all winter long. Cleaning them out makes me think winter is on its way, and I'm not ready for that yet:)

Rose ! was that panic I heard in your post ? LOL
I have just started and it is a long process for me to get done .. I had so many pots on the go it was too much really .. but I still have quite a few left on the deck still .. and I'll have the Autumn ones on the front step for some time to come !

Time flies when you are having fun. Geez I saw Fall this morning. It was on the ground in various places. The temps were in the 50's!!!! I was so excited. I am almost ready to break out the fall decorations!!!!!! I don't take my pots down in winter. Most of my potted plants are there to stay. I grow a lot of things in pots. It has still been warm in the daytime though so its not over yet!!(-:

Hi Cindee .. you lucky girl ! being able to keep some potted plants over the whole year would be so nice .. we don't have a garage so I can't over winter anything. So .. it is a long chore of dumping, cleaning and organizing but I don't mind so much. Wears off calories ? LOL
