Photo Overload ... OUCH !!

I have been reading and admiring the garden picture wrap up that some bloggers have been doing. It has been so nice to see .. so I wanted to try and pick the best of the best ? to post about.
Picture overload happened .. it has been so overwhelming it is comical .. along the way I have wondered "Why did I save these certain pictures ?" .. some so blurry , or too dark/light .. or what the heck was I thinking when I took THIS ???
Is anyone else like this ? ... I have so many on my lap top now that the only way to handle them is transfer them to a disc so I can have a fresh start to the New Year ...
If anyone had seen me here .. in my pajamas .. muttering comments to the pictures .. trying to make decisions "keep or junk???" ... well it is too funny.
I chose this beautiful red tulip I have to say (in simple terms for the sake of my sanity)
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone : ) .... phew !!!!

I wanted to stop by and say Happy New Year. I am so glad to have "met" you through blogging and look forward to blogging with you in 2009!

Yes! I actually find coming up with photos the most difficult part of blogging, even though I know sharing beautiful garden photos is the main reason many bloggers take up the hobby? obsession? time-sucking-impossible-to-kick habit? in the first place.

Darlene you are such a sweety pie girl ! ... and yes ! lets hope 2009is going to be great and we have a wonderful time sharing blogs : )

Susan .. you worded it just right ! I find it is so hard to choose which pictures .. and when you take so many, as we tend to do.. confusion abounds !! haha

Yes, I share the same problem! I have almost 7,000 on my laptop right now.

I've posted so many photos on Blogspot that Picasa has actually started to drop some of my older ones so that there are "holes" in my older posts!

Happy New Year!
Cheers,
Cameron

I know what you mean, I save the dumbest photos for no reason. You have a Happy New Year-hope the sanity is still there tomorrow!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Oh no Cameron ! .. I never thought of that happening .. I don't think I'm that far gone but it is too distracting with so many "files" that pop up .. so I think I should start with a clean slate : )
Happy New Year too !

Tina .. why do we do those things girl ?? LOL
Thanks for my sanity sake .. I sure hope it sticks with me for a bit longer. Happy New Year too !

Oh, thank you for showing me what will be at the end of my little tiny tulips sprouting in the garden right now. Come spring, bright red and yellow blooms!

I'm a member of the "too many photos club" too. My other problem is that I keep the big size, resize to a usable one that I can send in email, have another copy for the blog (with name attached), plus numerous ones that I crop and keep. So I could have several copies of the same photo. One of these days I'll go in a delete one or two. I blame it on digital cameras, I mean you can just keep snapping away with the idea that you will delete the ones you don't want. But most of the time I don't have the heart to hit that delete button.
I'll be back to visit next year! Oh wait, that is tomorrow. Be back then.

I have to admit to being one of those who have over 7000 photos on their computer also. Although I am really good at weeding out, and backing up everything, it can be overwhelming. I love Picassa 3, this is a free program that makes it easy to find a certain photo, when I want it. You can download it through Google.

And the real reason I stopped by, to wish you a Happy New Year, and it was lovely to meet you my new Bloggy friend.

LOL. You know I was just doing that earlier too. Why in the world did I take (and keep) so many bad pictures anyway? Geez. I can't see what I'm taking pictures of anymore, so at least I have an excuse for taking so many bad ones.

Glad to have met you in 2008 and I hope you have a wonderful new year!

i save all my photos...crazy i know....blurry, under or overexposed, poorly framed...it doesn't matter. they all represent a moment in time and once you hit delete the moment is gone. besides, you never know when you'll want to take one more look at the fuzzy bee on what looks like a coneflower if you squint real hard.

here's to many beautiful pictures in 2009. happy new year.

Brenda you are welcome girl ! I find it hard to believe I had such nice ones in the garden .. as soon as winter weather hits me, my brain goes into hibernation : )

Crafty .. you are so right about digital photography .. we have it so easy, we can take zillions of pictures and not worry about cost for development ..I do the same thing as you too ! .. I think most of us do : )

Happy New Year Jen too ! .. YES ! I am guilty of using a couple of programs .. Piccasa plus the old version of ACDSee .. which is my favorite. I wonder if anyone else does that ? LOL .. but they are all great : )

Hey Cindee you too girl .. and those chocolates you made ... wow !!

Hi Cinj .. I find that too .. I'm not seeing clearly through the lens I have to remember to adjust that little gizmo thing. Hey glad to have met you too girl !

PG ! I'm happy to have made you laugh girl .. humour is VERY important in life .. and gardening especially ? LOL

Robin .. I think it is that New Year urge to tidy up that has bitten us ? LOL

Irena .. Happy New Year too !
I think you have nailed it girl ! .. we remember that tiny spark of time we took it and our instinct is to save it .. even if it is bad .. I have lots of fuzzy bees ! .. or was that over ripe nectar ? LOL

Hi Aiyana .. Thanks and Happy New Year to you too !!

Happy New Year to you and the kitties! Spike and Sluggo send their best meows to Sophie and Emma and wish them all the best in '09.

You certainly aren't the only one girl! I snap photos endlessly, but when I go back over them I wonder what I was thinking. I take a lot of shots that end up on the blog, but then are quickly deleted for the future. Who else but garden bloggers would want to see dead and dying flowers in the fall? LOL

Gail said...

Dear Joy, That is exactly what I asked myself when i went through my photos! So one of my chores is to clear out the completely blurry ones...I did decide that one reason I kept some blurred photos (besides procrastination) was the full view of plant and companion it gave me! Too often I took closeups for blogging and none for helping me see the garden! Live and learn!

Happy New Year...I am so glad I stumbled upon your blog and found you! All the best, gail

Giddy ! Happy New Year girl !
Emma and Sophie send their best head bonks and meows to Spike and Sluggo too : )

Robin .. that was too funny and too true ! gardeners are the only ones who would find those sort of pictures interesting : ) .. I'm sure i will end up with too many photos for this year too .. but maybe I might just get rid of the truly awful ones sooner ? Happy NY !

Gail .. you are too sweet girl ! Glad to have stumbled on you too ? LOL .. I know what you mean about too many closeups and not enough over views .. but come to think of it .. my garden is much smaller than yours .. so maybe I'm trying to avoid seeing my small spaces ? LOL

Luckily I'm a ruthless control freak when it comes to organising photos but that hasn't stopped me accumulating loads of them :-)
Happy New Year to you too!

Happy New Year to you too -
I have also been going through my photos wondering a) why I keep so many, b) Will i remember to label them in 2009 and c) can I organize them better, so your post gave me a big chuckle :)
Warm regards

Hi easygardener .. I can be a bit of a control freak myself .. so that is why I have been shocked at how I have slipped so badly and became a picture hoarder ! Yikes !

Hi Karen .. I guess it might be because we are just so enthusiastic about good photos we feel sorry for the bad ones and can't part with them ? I am vowing to be better in 2009 ! LOL

Hi Lynn .. Thank you so much ! .. I want to visit more blogs in the new year while we still have down time with winter months .. and maybe get ready and organized ? now that would be a treat ! : )

I thought about an end-of-the year review, too, Joy, but my photos are so disorganized I would have to spend days doing it! And yes, I have those "what the heck was this?" photos:)
I like your lovely red tulip: simplicity is beauty, too. Have a Happy New Year!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Thanks Rose .. Happy New Year too ! .. I got overwhelmed very quickly and I intend to "move" all those pictures and start fresh for this year : )

Lovely tulip photo. I keep hoping that I'll delete the photos I'll never use, but I'm too lazy to do so. I lost all my photos when my hard drive crashed last month and I vowed to be better at organising. Nope, not off to a good start. I'm just glad that I post the photos I really like to Flickr ... at least they are somewhere.

I hope this is a wonderful year for you ... and a great gardening one too!!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Thanks Kate ! .. I did copy most of my pictures to a CD .. but they turn up in other places on here much to my surprise .. it s almost a hunt and destroy mission here to free up space and run faster : )

Anonymous said...

Hi Joy, that is exactly what I say, why have I kept that photo, using up precious space on the hard drive! HA Eyes become crossed after looking at so many and trying to make the choices of which ones to use. Next year we need to pick one at the end of each month and have them ready to go by year's end to save ourselves all that work! :-) Happy new year, my dear!

If there's anything which could tempt me to move to a land that gets cold and snowy in winter, it would have to be tulips!
No, we dont have them here in Mumbai (too tropical) but I've been known to get all drool-y over photos of tulips in imported garden magazines.
Anyway, it looks like you're starting off the new year on a great note ... spending time on garden photos! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and may 2009 bring you bouquets that you have yet to imagine and an abundance of joy.

I have become ruthless in deleting my less-than-perfect photos. Though, it has take me a while and certainly have more than my share of 'bad ones'.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hello there Frances !
Yes .. you are so right .. I am nearly cross eyed but have gotten most on a CD so I can weed out more in different areas on the hard drive .. I should really be more efficient and do a monthly "weed party" on garden pictures and garden weeds ? LOL
Hope you have a grand New Year Frances ! : )

Sunita .. I'm glad we can have some plants that make your drool girl !! .. living in a year round garden environment is awesome .. and we do get jealous of you : )
Then again I don't think I could keep up with a garden all that time .. I guess being Canadian we have an internal need to hibernate to get us through these winter months ? LOL
Have a great year too Sunita : )
Be safe and happy !

Diane : )
I have been occupied with weeding and burning pictures to CD .. also do the HUGE jump on buying a new file cabinet and weeding paper work for that to become a sane and organized "black box" ? LOL
I take so many pictures to try and capture "the ONE" I'm looking for and some times that just doesn't happen .. but I hope this year I might have become a better photographer ? LOL

I don't remember you ever being away this long. I hope someone comes by and digs you out from under all those photos.

Joy ~ Although I've only had the camera since August, I'm in the same boat, photographically speaking. Lots of "chaff" to winnow out, as rattle through my iPhoto storage.

Your red tulip is just the right, positive note upon which to start the new year. Here's to great '09 gardens! Happy New Year! ~ Deb

P.S. I'm to pass along a "shout-out" to your girls from my wild, orange boys and Stanley! (However, Lucy-Maude was unavailable for comment... still recovering from her fashion show, over at Dog's Eye View... I've just now stopped laughing at her up-close shots.)

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Dear Mr. WiseA**
I just finished a very long comment on your wild cat post and POOF !! it was gone and I got kicked out .. so I'll have to work on that again .. from underneath this heap of photos I'm scratching my head about !! : ) Thanks for asking about me ^..^

Dear Deb ... I'll have to get over there and see Lucy Maud's fashion show !!
The girls will be tickled pink about the boys taking a interest in them ; )
YES !! Here is to some wonderful garden moments to come this year .. and I had hoped the red tulip was a banner for that too !
