She's looking good indeed ! A few varieties are quite hardy, you know. She may be one ?

It will last until it gets too cold! My rosemary lives outside year round...Both in containers and in the ground. I do bring the container in when it goes below 20! The shrub (it's a shrub now) has to make it on her own! gail

I know that ours is going on 3 years now... of course our weather isn't like Canada's!

It is a hardy evergreen perennial here. Maybe it will live forever.

You've either:
1 - got a fake plant
2 - coated it in varnish when healthy in the summer
3 - got very good at photoshop
or 4 - there's some sort of witchery afoot.
I reckon it shall never die!!! xxx

That Rosemary is a hardy gal, eh? Amazing! Well, off to do a tad more exterior decorating, as the frigid weather plans a return trip tomorrow. Really, must you be so generous? Montreal Express, indeed! Hope Santa sees his way clear to leave heavy-duty mittens for my frostbitten gardening digits.

My ivy geranium, scaevola and scented geranium finally succumbed after the snow melted, but it took a night in the upper teens to finish them off.

Can't you take pity on poor, shivering Rosemary and invite her in for the winter?

Just wondering, Deb

The way it is looking good shows long way to go.

Yay! Good for Rosemary! I think she's a true survivor.
BTW, I had a peek at the photos in your earlier post and beat a hasty retreat, shivering in my 82*F weather.

Ican't tell you how long it will hang on. If you have sun it helps. I don't have a window with enough light to carry a rosemary through the winter. Good luck.

Hello miss m !
I have never had a rosemary in a pot this long .. I know the ones I plant in the garden do not make it but this may be a first ?

Gail you are a hard mom girl ! LOL
None of them make it (so far) in the ground here .. this is a first with the pot .. I'm sure it will succumb when the real cold hits?;-)

Dear Dave .. that is the thing .. when our real cold comes I have a feeling she will depart, LOL

Debbie girl .. I should think exactly THAT and maybe all those positive vibes will keep her going ?

Carrie !! ssshhhhsssss ! don't tell anyone about the witchery bit happening here (it is our secret!!)

Deb ... now you know how generous we Canadians are girl .. we believe in SHARING !! .. and we will also be shivering in our fluffy pjs when that true "north' wind starts blowing ! Hey good luck with the decorating ;-)
PS .. I'm afraid she will die faster in here if she sets foot in the igloo !!! haha

Hello MK .. I should start a lottery with guessing how long this can keep going ? LOL

Sunita girl .. you just had to tell us how warm it is over there ? LOL .. husband came back from Cuba and it was a bit f a shock for him too ;-)

Lisa .. that is my problem too .. no place to put her with good light .. so I know she has a better chance out there .. I'll be interested to see when she gives it up ?

She is looking good, indeed! Is she still sitting outside?? This is the first year I had a rosemary plant, and just by luck, I received the Extension newsletter in November with an article about overwintering rosemary. That's when I dug mine up and brought her inside. I'm not good with indoor plants, so we'll see if Rosemary and I can hang on till spring:)

Gulp, Joy, I think you should take Gail's advice and haul it in when the temps drop below 20 degrees F. The poor thing has hung on so bravely, I hate to think of it being killed off now. Apparently rosemaries need cold, moist conditions over the winter, which is why they seldom survive the dry heat of modern houses. But if you have a garage that doesn't drop below freezing and lets in some light---or you can hang a shop light in there and put the rosemary under it---and remember to water it when the soil dries out, there's hope that it will grace your deck again next year. Good luck, and fingers crossed for the brave little plant!!!!

Rosemary is such a delicious and beautiful plant Joy, and yours looks wonderful. I wouldn't be able to resist bringing it in, but I'd probably kill it - they have been finicky for me indoors.

I'm guessing your 'girls' wouldn't let it be - enjoy it for as long as it lasts out there!

It just might make it all winter. Here people grow them as large shrubs in their yards. I love the smell and just go and break off a piece when I want to think about warm weather and summer.

I've kept rosemary through the winter indoors, of course, but it just won't come through outdoors for me. Indoors it needs cool room like cyclamen, and regular watering but not drowning. I sometimes forget about it with unfortunate results...

Mine is a "long goner" it bit the bucket over 3 weeks ago. A little bit of frost, and it dies. Silly thing, not my fault it was -6 outside. LOL.

Hi there Rose girl !
I have a few rosemary plants each season .. I would have a separate herb garden if I had the space , I love herbs so much but I try to do a potager style garden and have them dotted every where. I just know it wouldn't survive me indoors so I am watching it do so well out doors it delights and amazes me : )

ben ! .. this is a bit of an experiment (mad scientist? LOL) I just know I don't have the proper conditions to keep it alive in doors and heaven knows how the few indoor plants I have survive me ? haha .. but .. I have an xmas present waiting for another experiment so this could be interesting : )

Hello there Linda girl ! .. I adore all herbs but I do love rosemary especially .. in fact I have some sprigs that have been drying .. ready to be picked off and jarred .. it has taken me this long to remember ? I have been so intrigued by this little beauty hanging on so long .. indoors, it would be singing the swan song ? LOL !

Catherine .. I would so love to see a huge rosemary shrub .. the scent must be heavenly, especially in such a large size like that .. I probably would fall into the shrub and roll around it like cats with cat nip ? LOL

Jodi girl ! I love that new avatar picture ! It makes me think summer right away (I have had bad luck with sunflowers the last 3 years) ..I wish I had a room I could keep a few plants like that in .. especially herbs .. the scent is so wonderful .. some plants just don't do well with us no matter how hard we try though .. I'm getting smart enough to stop beating myself up about it ? haha

Jen ... girl some how I thought you would not have a problem with this one .. that it would make it through with you (unless Bootsie really LIKED it ? haha) Hey .. I am still astounded with that gorgeous picture of the white rock and sunrise .. that was awesome girl !!

Wow. That's amazing! I'm trying to overwinter one in a sunny window. It's lost some "needles" but seems to be hanging on. I've killed so many...

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Kylee ! Doesn't rosemary sound like a Christmas tree ? loosing needles when it isn't happy ??LOL
I am just watching and waiting to see how long this can go on .. it was -14 this morning .. still hanging ON !!! : )
