Bouncing Baby Girl Water Lily

Well we couldn't be more pleased to announce the birth of our very first water lily !
It was a bit of a surprise as to what sex this little creature would reveal about itself .. yes .. I know .. plants have a very different set of rules when it comes to the sex .. but bear with me ?
Seeing it peek up through the water was such a wonderful pleasure since we thought the plants in this little micro-mini pond, would just be green but very appreciated all the same : )
Then when this gorgeous bud appeared we thought for sure it would be a beautiful white lily ?
We couldn't be more shocked that it was a very PINK to fuschia flower .. and that it looked so .. shall we say .. hum ... artificial ?
Now wouldn't you think the same ?
I mean .. it looks .. like .. a plastic flower you could buy at a dollar store ? doesn't it ? LOL

What ever its appearance we still are tickled "PINK" to have an actual water lily bloom in our tiny pond .. we think Ernie and Bert are also very pleased with this addition too : )

Has anyone one else had this type of water lily ? I would love to hear about it ! Meanwhile the deck plants have been VERY chatty about this new girl .. wink wink .. We haven't named her yet, so feel free to suggest some very girlie names .. I have to say Ms. Betty Boop water lily is one of my thoughts ? ;-)

That flower is so pretty! It does look like a dollar store flower. Hahahaha, it's awesome!

It's so pretty and I'm very jealous! :) Our water lilies are so behind this year. They have usually been blooming for awhile by now, but not even a bud in sight. The flowers usually last for a few days and close in the evening. I also always notice the coloring changing as the flower ages.

Hello Aubrey and thank you ! : )

Rebecca we couldn't be more surprised : ) she is a beauty !

Nancy girl this little pond kit from Loblaws has been such a fun project .. we never thought it would turn out so well ! : )

Lisa I think that name would be perfect ! There .. I will get back to a post and name our little girl ! LOL

meems how true is that ! we thought with the hint of white it would be a white flower .. it closes and opens a lot so that pink is a wow factor !

Catherine girl this one is so active closing and opening with no set rules as to light values or rain drops .. it is our first so we are totally in love with it : )

Rebecca we hadn't a clue how this little kit would work out .. so no expectations ? and wow ! it has been amazing : )

Hi Linda : ) .. I think your Lily is so special we have to let her have that limelight ? LOL .. I hope she is still blooming by the time you get here so you can see it in person !

Ha ha...oh, how cute. Why, she's adorable! Such a pretty little thing. Very girly names? How about missy? Or candy? Or muffy? Whatever it may end up being, congratulations! She's just perfect.

I have been considering putting together a mini-pond and after seeing yours with the beautiful water lily, I think I will get the project started.

Thank you Martha and YES ! .. it took us by surprise for sure .. I think Lisa coined her name "Pinky" seems to fit perfectly ? LOL

Keewee it takes next to no care truly ! All I do is top up the water and the rest ? the plants do look after themselves .. well, maybe Bert and Ernie have something to do with it being the two goldfish farmers ? haha

Well congratulations! (-: Mine won't bloom for me so you are the lily queen for sure! The pink is outstanding! I have not seen one so pretty ever! Remember that movie Pretty In Pink? Well that was my first thought...so how about Molly(-:

Well, she sure is cute! But, if you think she looks plastic, how about Barbie? wink. wink.

Hey Kimberly I can't take all of the credit .. sadly ? LOL .. it was this container and a pre filled pond plant combo from a garden center .. all we did was add water with Ernie and Bert !
It has been a blast though and I am amazed it works in such a small sized "bowl" ? haha

Cindee that would have been perfect .. but Lisa beat you to the punch with "Pinky" ? LOL
Yes I remember that movie and Ducky in particular .. haha
I am still in shock with this flower blooming away !

Freda now that also would have been perfect .. Barbie ;-) it still looks like an artificial flower to me .. not even one that tries so hard to look real either ? LOL ..

It really does look artificial, so pretty. The name is so cute too. I'm catching up with your blog again Joy, lol. :)
