Shadow Shot Time

These are "speculaas" cookie molds that I collected while we lived in the Netherlands .
We were in South Limburg province just steps away from Belgium and Germany and when Christmas rolled around it was simply amazing .. I will never forget the Christmas markets with all their delicious smells and treats.
I became hooked on these beautiful wooden boards and collected them right up until the moment we had to move back to Canada.
They are in our entrance area so a few people have wondered what they were if they have never seen them before.
The warm wood looks wonderful playing in the shadows and light ?
Tracy at Hey Harriet has many more shadows playing in the light from many more shadow shooters , so wonder over there and have a peek !

One of my friends lived in the Netherlands when her husband was in the Air Force. She had one of these on her kitchen wall when they returmed.

Yours are beautiful, and make a lovely wall collection.

Hello Sandy girl !
Thank you very much : ) I had a blast collecting them at flea markets and antique shops .. they always made my heart race when I saw one I didn't have ! LOL
Living in Europe really opens your eyes to life : )

Lona girl (I just sent you a wee e-mail) Thank you so much : )
I do love them as reminders of what good times we had there. I love wood carvings and these were just such a treat to collect : )
Merry Ho Ho girl .. hope Santa is good to you !!

Gemma girl I just sent you a cry for help about the new SSS button which is VERY cool I might add .. I can't seem to pick it up .. I guess I need the code to be able to post it ? If you can help me with that I would be totally grateful girl : )

These are neat molds, 3-D artistry that are unique. I only wonder if a particular mold is more appropriate for oatmeal raisin cookie, another for chocolate chip and perhaps one perfect for Christmas cookies? One wonders...

Loved your choices of shadows for today. Very nice.

I think they look great in this lighting. Those cookie molds look like art. They are very nicely carved.

Ahhh, sunshine, what a wonderful warm glow all those molds make on your wall. Can you believe this year is almost over, soon we'll be counting down to spring again. I'm going to order my bees right after Christmas, my hive is cleaned and ready, all I have to do is build more frames, the old ones were trashed...I was even looking through Mother Earth tonight for new seed catalogs...my New Years resolution this year is a more productive veggie garden and planting more flowers for the bees...and pray for no drought this year.

You might say this is why us Northuners need winter, to plan all our stuff...right!

Have a wonderful holiday and stay warm!

What? These are all from your own collection? Far out! That's such an impressive display and I've not heard of them before. I love the look of them all hanging up together like that!

Just in case Gemma hasn't responded yet to your question about the new button... could you just upload it as an image in your post and just link the new SSS url to it? That's how I did it. I'm not sure if they've created a code for it. I remember the first button I made using code a lot of people had trouble with the code, so I'm thinking it's easier to just upload as an image. If you can't link directly to the image you could maybe just put a link below? Hope that helps a little. Or maybe it's confused you more ;)

Sharon girl you are brimming over with energy and enthusiasm already!! You are going to be one busy gal come Spring .. those bees will be lucky to have such a "Bee-Mistress" ? LOL .. I don't do veggies but I do love herbs and they will always be in my garden with all the other goodies : )

Hi Jenny girl !
I dropped by your blog and left a web address to a place in the States that makes them (a bit pricey) but the patterns are very much like the ones I have collected.
I had a blast for 4 years finding each one in different surrounding countries .. something I will never forget !

Linda girl they certainly do .. I almost have a whiff of the Xmas markets too ? ;-)

Eileen girl they were a wonderful 4 years .. living and working there! Yes I ran across Jenny's blog a little while back and chatted to her about it : )

Hello there Ms S : ) I have to take a picture of the whole entrance way so you can see the rest of them .. blue reminded us of the Delft ware I have but now I would like to repaint it a soft yellow to show the warm wood off !

Thank you Cindee girl : ) I am very attached to them .. it is a real hoot when people come to the door and their jaws drop not knowing what they are ! LOL

Hey Lola girl : )
Thank you very much ! Hope you have great holidays and really enjoy yourself ..lots of fun treats and great old movies for Christmas on TV !! LOL

Joy, these are each like a magnificent piece of art. No wonder you hang them on your wall. Have you ever used them to make cookies?

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Hello Marguerite girl !
Thank you : ) No I haven't used them for actual cookie making (I am so NOT a "cook" of any kind .. well, ok .. I can cook a turkey !LOL) .. some are very old and some are newer .. I love them all and I have many more than just in this picture !
