What about some plants ?

It is a dark and dismal Sunday evening with a weather warning for freezing rain.
What better time to talk about a few plants right ?
This actually advanced to a Monday evening with the same conditions ... FREEZING RAIN.
BIG sigh !!!!!!!

OK .. enough of the whinging .. and whining .. and so forth.
I stumbled upon a rose called  At Last Rose   .. I swore I wouldn't get any more roses since I can barely look after the ones I have .. in fact I have to move a few in the Spring ..
This one however I just can't keep out of my thoughts so I am willing to have to crack the garden budget open a wee bit more and scoop this one up.
See ? ... I know this picture has been made as gorgeous as possible to make you lose you mind and buy this baby ... and it seems to be working 100% on me ... Vesey's has it and I am afraid I won't be able to find it here so they have me by my garden boots on it.

Not only with this one .. Vesey must have been reading my garden dreams for a while to also have a new smokebush (I have a weakness for smokebush) .. in a stunning dark colour.
Winecraft Black Smokebush
When this baby gets bigger and throws those amazing airy flowers, well it is going to be totally gorgeous !
So for now these two are a weakness for me .. I know there are more to come, but I want to truly understand what will work better for me as the head gardener and what I can logically look after to not lean on my Garden PA so much for help.
Have you had experiences with these plants/shrubs ? I would love to hear about it !

Both beautiful. I love smoke bushes, but have never grown one. I see them all around town though so I am sure I could grow one here. I guess I need to try one.(-: I love roses too. The deer do too(-: I still grow them. Someone needs to feed the deer right?(-:

Unfortunately I don't have a good place for roses. I am rarely tempted to purchase one. I love their colors, forms, fragrance. I would love to try a standard. What really holds me back is the placement. I just don't have a good place for one.
Love that smoke bush. Another one that needs a lot of sun to get that rich color and those fluffy flowers.
I love your header photo. Your garden always looks so neat and tidy with lots of color.

Haven't had experience with either one but am happy to see you back in plant lust mode!

Hello Cindee girl : )
You are such a sweetie for those deer with feeding them nothing but the best ! LOL
Hey it is going to be one heck of a trick for me to find the room here but I am renovating the garden so I am hopeful ? LOL .. hope the weather is treating you kindly over there !

Lisa girl I hear you about placement ... this is going to be tricky for me as well but I am hoping that my new way of looking at plantings (to be as functional and low maintenance as possible) might help .. the only standard I have is Pink Diamond hydrangea, which is in a not so great place ... I am transplanting it this Spring so I hope it will be happier for it and smile with FLOWERS !haha .. trust me girl .. my garden is far from tidy but I want to "fix" the mess it is in this year .. garden on girl ! haha

Dear Mr. TOG : ) ... yes some how some way I am geared back into plant lust and I am trying to keep it under control .. but YOU know how hard that is for any of us right ? LOL

It's pretty miserable here also (just thought I would cheer you up) Great looking Rose and I really like the smokebush, grown here just for the leaf colour as our Summer sunshine isn't quite warm enough to produce those flowers.

I had a neighbor lady who brought up here to Missouri from down south in Tennessee a heritage rose bush from her family yard, some 70 years ago. When I did yard work for her, in the past, it was a real treat to enjoy the scent of those roses as I took a break.
Either my nose is going bad now or today's roses do not have much scent. Maybe bred for looks and growth instead, as priorities?

Get them, get them! Have you got them yet???
Gorgeous colours, stunning - you need these, I need these.

I am terribly brutal and impatient with my roses and thus they usually die. Yup, I shouldn't admit it but it's true. At the allotment there is not wind protection, lots of animals and birds (and humans) who love to destroy and, I swear, EVERY disease going. So the majestic roses does not do. Apart from the really thorny one by the shed that I just can't get rid off! haha.

hugs xxx

Hello there Alistair (yes misery loves company : )
Yes these two have caught my eye, now are they going to catch my budget ? haha
Seriously though I think I may be obsessed by them ! haha
Thanks for stopping by !

Hello goatman : ) your nose is spot on .. the vast majority of roses are breed for sheer looks most often .. but a rose without that amazing scent is just NOT a rose is it ?
I can't think of anything better than catching that beautiful scent while working in the garden .. makes it worthwhile : )

Carrie girl I have to get over to your blog ! YES we BOTH NEED THESE right ? LOL
You and I are so alike when it comes to roses ..IMPATIENT for a rose FULL of flowers and looking spectacular .. let alone smelling that way too .. and right away darn it ! LOL
Why is it we all have that really thorny one that sticks with us forever ? haha

Patsi girl HELLLOOOOOOO ! LOL
I just popped over to your blog (sorry I haven't visited any in ages .. BIG sigh !)
Saw that fabulous piece of art and it is fabulous girl so KEEP it .. display it in the garden where the light can play with it.
Today is sunny and 6 degrees so it is a TEASE I know .. but a subtle hint of Spring in another 3 months maybe ? haha
You have to have a dark and light smoke bush .. they are gorgeous .. I train them into small trees .. I love them !!
Glad to see ya girl ! : )

It's hard not to be tempted by such beautiful plants this time of year--anything colorful or just plain green in cold, dreary January is a welcome sight! That's a beautiful rose, but I don't plant too many roses because I know I won't take proper care of them. I do love smokebush, though--that's a gorgeous burgundy!

Hello Rose girl : )
I have a love hate relationship with roses .. I keep trying to find that perfect one .. so I just have to try this one and I swear I will give up ... soon !
The smokebush ... well I can't help myself .. it is perfect ... I am hopeless right ? LOL
