Last one for the year ....

I have been so neglectful of this poor blog I wouldn't be surprised if no one even reads it.
Being tied up with cosmetic renos inside our nest and it has driven me to the brink of reason.
Anyone who has gone through renovations in their nest knows what it can do to a normal sane mind.

But ? do it to a wacky one like mine ?
Pity my poor husband, Garden PA, .. he has put up with hysterics , laughing fits, and general insanity of a woman on the edge.
Have you ever seen the movie "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks ? remember his laughing fit when the tub fell through the floor ? ... that was me a few times .. truly !!
It is done now (for the most part) ... but then why am I still teetering on the brink of "madness" ?

My gardens have been sorely neglected.
Garden PA will be trying to help me as much as possible to clear back plants, transplant plants, plant bulbs and general clean up.
Bless his heart he picked up 6 big bags of special "sea" compost for me today.
We have two days that seem decent by way of the forecast, IF we can do it.
Please wish us all the luck that the Irish are supposed to have, to get this mission done.

Meanwhile .. I managed to capture a few pretty shots of the flaming Japanese maples that survived the last winter kill and are so beautiful they stun me with their colour.
It also answers the burning question as to why I take my chances with these gorgeous little trees.

The light is not the best but you get the idea of how intense the red is on these leaves.

Crimson Queen's main trunk seems to be dead, but I am not giving up since this undergrowth is pleading with me in a sea of lamium

See how you can NOT miss these beauties ?
There is other colour and non colour in the garden too of course
The birds love these berries

I love how Solomon's Seal goes ghostly white with the contrast of the green ferns holding on.
Just a pretty shot to savor when old man winter arrives.
The "gigantic" grass was a show stopper too
One last shot of my beauties
I wish you all a restful winter to stoke the energy for Spring and all the excitement that brings :-)

Remodeling does take its toll on ones nerves. I certainly understand that. Your garden is quite colorful for this season, as it should be. I haven't planted any new bulbs. I wish I had some now. Enjoy your remodeling and relax this winter awaiting the new gardening season.

I do know how house reno's go. Ugh I don't miss that.
I hope your home is back to normal soon!
Post pictures!!!
Miss you!

"Renovations" and "sane" do not belong in the same sentence! ;) I can sympathize with you, both in terms of the reno and how your "other life" can result in a bit of garden and blog neglect....this has been one of those years for me as well...and the cold, wet, windy weather recently has NOT been helpful! And that Japanese maple...glorious!! I need one (or more!) of those in my garden.

Glorious autumn color in your garden! I do wish you luck as you tackle your garden projects. Hopefully, now that the nest projects are done, your sanity will return. (We're pretending we were sane to begin with, right?) Time playing outside in the garden sometimes helps.

Neglected or not, I am in awe of your garden! It is by far one of the most beautiful. That scene from the "The Money Pit" with Tom Hanks is hilarious! I should watch that movie again. It's been too long and I'm sure I'd enjoy it :)

What a Joy to see you back, (god, no wonder people get fed up with me) Well anyway glad your renovations are over with, we have been there several times and know exactly how you feel. I love that gigantic" grass. Take care, see you around next time.

Good to see you back Joy. We have had our share of refurbishment over the years, not much fun. Getting stuck into the garden again will ease the tension, love that gigantic grass.

Hello Lisa : ) Hope all is well with you girl : )
Yes renos can drive you over the cliff with stress , but we are good now .. I think ? at least for a little bit until I have another "great idea" ? LOL
We did get some things done yesterday, planted the bulbs but it was so rushed(because the weather was awful) it will surprise me where ever they come up ? haha
YES ! lets all have a good rest this winter to be able to gear up for Spring !

Cindee girl .. I haven't been around in so long, sorry about that .. and YES ! I know you KNOW what renovations are like for sure ! haha .. lets not do that again for a LONG time right? LOL
I will try to post pictures some time, although it was more of a cosmetic update with paint and carpeting .. but what an upheaval it created , haha.
Hope all is well with the new baby and Princess too !

Margaret you are so right about those two words in the same sentence ? LOL Not viable .. more of an oxymoron maybe ? LOL My poor gardens have been so neglected it makes me cringe every time I think of it .. but we took a good stab at it yesterday so that helps.
YES ! I love my Japanese maples so much for that dramatic colour, nothing like them for a show stopper in the garden .. so you have to have as many as you can ? LOL

Peter, always happy to see you : )... sssshhhhhuuussss ! I was working on the premise that we were almost sane so keep that under your hat ! LOL .. but yes, sanity is dancing on the knife edge when it comes to home renos and this one was quite the doozy but we are almost back to "normal" (I know another discussion altogether? haha)
Oh yes .. we played ourselves almost into the ground yesterday and I still have a back garden crying for attention .. but .. it might have to wait until Spring, I can barely move today ! ugh !!!

Hello Martha ! so nice to see you : ) and thank you .. I was lucky to just force myself out that day to capture some quick shots .. I am so glad I did .. I needed that garden beauty fix to help balance myself out from all the chaos .. YES ! I keep thinking of that hysterical laughing of Tom Hanks because that was how I truly felt through this whole adventure .. hahaha

Hello there Alistair (you made me smile, LOL) I think we can all put up with you quite well, no worries ! .. I do love my gigantic grass, it is dramatic and so beautiful in making the back garden look more like a secret garden when it "hides" areas from sight.
Nothing like that to make you wonder what kind of a nutty gardener would have that in such a small area ! LOL Thanks for dropping by : )

You really have many beauties in your garden, Joy. I love your maple, hosta, the colorful carpet of autumnal leaves on the path. Nice season!
Your husband is your best helper, good luck to you both in faster renovation.
Hugs!

Hi, Joy, I'm always happy to see a new post from you. I've been neglectful of my blog the past few months, too, and it's hard to get back in the swing of it, I know. Your Japanese maples are stunning! Good luck with finishing all your fall chores. We went to Texas last week to celebrate my youngest granddaughter's second birthday, and I didn't get everything done in the garden that I wanted to beforehand. I still have over a hundred bulbs to plant, and it's a freaking 18 degrees this morning! I'm hoping it warms up enough tomorrow so that I can at least get those bulbs in the ground before we're buried in snow::( Enjoy your winter's rest!

We had our kitchen remodeled early this year. It nearly drove us over the edge - took over 3 months.

Thank you so much Nadezda .. yes I am lucky to have a husband that helps me in the garden, I am always thankful for that (after I am grouchy with him ? LOL)
The maples are my favorite ... I may have to take out the ones that got hit hard last Spring by the late freezing .. that is sad because I do love each and everyone of them.

Oh Rose ... I feel for you girl .. I was planting in windy freezing weather wondering if my brain was really engaged in reality ? LOL I still have so much to do in that back garden but we are going to get snow soon, so it may just have to wait for Spring now .. something I have never done is let the garden go like that .. so I get how you feel. I hope yo can get your bulbs in, I am going to be surprised if mine work at all , the way I shoved them in the ground ... let alone the blog neglect ? LOL GOOD LUCK ROSE !!!!!

Jason .. a few years ago we had the kitchen refaced and two bathrooms redone with new vanities etc ... I thought I lost my mind then ? LOL .. I guess I forgot and just had to try losing my mind once and for all ?

The Money Pit is one of my favourite films but then I do love Tom Hanks no matter what. That film is just so funny and the house is so gorgeous but heck i don't know how anyone renovates a whole house, inside and out!
Glad your chaos is over xx

ALL THE BEST LUCK IN THE WORLD - (it counts, I'm sort of Irish, northern Irish and will be applying for my irish passport soon x)

Autumn colors like that just make me drool! Autumn was especially color here in Ohio, but the weather didn’t cooperate. It was so cold and gloomy! Still I danced around town taking pictures of the stunning colors, often in the rain!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Thanks Carrie girl : ) .. Yup .. that scene when Tome is hysterically laughing over the crashed bathtub makes me crack up all the time ... literally , especially after this reno !
But it is done and we are snug in our nest thankfully : )
Hey ... better late than never with the passport .. I let mine laps after we came home from the Netherlands .. I just couldn't imagine leaving Canada ever again ! LOL

Hey Robin .. even in the rain Autumn colours are fantastic and we had some beauties this year, I just missed out on a lot because too much was going on .. I always say NEXT YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT !! haha

My dear, nice to read and nice to be back in your gardenjoy sphere. Renos are always good, whether you renovate your life, your garden, your inner self or your interior, it does mess up your routine but I bet you are enjoying the end result now. Lots of love and kisses from Croatia from a neglected greenthumb ;) xx
