A slip of my garden

Envision the awful wooden railway tie gone .. in place pea stone gravel (love the crunch of that stuff) with slate type stepping stones and random sedum and herb type plantings .. bricks gone to the side of the house border .. plants spilling over so no distinction of what ends where. A jungle of growth to lose myself in ..
OK snap back to reality .. part of my back garden .. still under restrictions until that lottery money kicks in .. BIG sigh .. but hey .." it's MY garden and I'll cry if I want to ?" Sheesh .. goofy or what ?

My entire front garden is pea gravel -- with plants, shrubs and a bed all within. I love it too: it's a great mulch thereby reducing the need for watering but with 3 romping dogs, I do need to sweep my stone walkways every single day. I like the look of it and everyone who comes here always comments on how nice it looks.

I'm sure your changes will be beautiful.

Your ideas for when you win the lottery are great, but truly, this garden is bery beautiful too!

Actually, I think your garden is pretty special now. It looks very serene.

Thank you beckie .. it is truly a haven for me even with all the tweaking I have in mind : )

Hey amy .. I think we gardeners are always THINKING of changes to our gardens right ? thanks !

Diane .. ever since we lived in Europe and the use of that type of gravel was so widespread .. it sunk in as an idea for mine. I'm hoping to go in that direction eventually. Yours sounds perfect to me ! even with the doggie fun ?

Joy, I think your garden looks beautiful. So much more intentional and serene than the chaos around here!

I love every bit of it, the contrasts, combinations and a wonderful harmony... but I know that's not good enough for you... LOL. Nothing is, that's the ultimate joy of gardening, watching it grow as we grow along, it's an art that allows no final drafts, and a source of ideas, inspiration and leisure that never dries out. We can play the Gods in our own paradise, well, at least until the cats take over, right?

Beautiful garden Joy! I love how your plantings pop out. Pea gravel and slate rocks are nice , and you probably wouldn't have to win the lottery, but I think your garden looks wonderful right now!!

Oh my goodness your garden is infested with grass.

By all means get rid of the railway ties. And that scalloped concrete edging too. Then knock down the fence and tell the neighbor he's got to move his house or that goes too. That should give you enough space for a season or two. By then you'll have won the Lottery again so don't forget to start planning what to do on the other side of the yard.

Ha. You and me both. I love daydreaming about what I'm going to do someday.

Your gardens do look wonderful though.

Joy, it is pretty, really really pretty just the way it is. If I win the lottery, watch out. We will have ponds and sculptures, and maybe a llama.

Debbie .. did you get the lama idea from Nan Ondra ? haha .. hey we all know we would probably move to a bigger house with a BIGGER garden area (I'd have to hire help) and let our creative juices rip ! haha
Thanks .. it is coming along .. albeit slowly and painfully .. : )

Thanks Cinj .. it is fun to daydream .. nice relaxation for the mind .. and it makes us come up with some different ideads eh ?

Wiseacre .. yes .. that SNEAKY lawn's days are numbered though (the nerve of it eh ?)
YES .. railway ties and silly cement bricks are exiting .. my neighbor already knows I'm eyeballing her place ..shushssssss ! .. my blue prints are on hold for lottery day ? .. right now something more like groundhog day here ? haha

Hey Chey ! Thanks ! .. it will convert to my planning eventually .. I'm huffing and puffing like the little train that thinks it can ? haha

Violet .. I missed yours and 'ben's comment .. I think my brain is still snoring ? LOL
I was thinking about why I feel so safe and comfortable in my garden .. my own little world to controll (well, as much as a gardener can ?) .. safe haven ? in such global chaos ? .. all of it seems to point that way .. we always think of plans to tweak and adjust don't we ? LOL

'ben" ... I think of it as controlled chaos up to a point .. until the heat and humidity strike .. then look out .. it is jungle mode and I am usually trying to escape the HH in the house with the AC ! .. Hawk's Haven is beautiful .. chaos or not ! LOL

Joy,

Hello...from St Louis! It's raining and I am NOT in my garden!

The dreaming and planning and then watching those dreams and plans eventually (!) come together is a big wonderful part of gardening.

I am trying to figure out if I want to bring gravel in as a path...I might post about it sometime and ask for opinions and HELP!

Have a terrific weekend.

Gail

Hi Gail in St. Louis ! .. we have rain predicted for tomorrow (thunder showers in fact) .. hope things are going well for you there .. your garden knows you will be back .. it is sleeping till you get home ?
I think the pea stone gravel really ingrained itself in my mind after living in Europe. It is in so many gardens .. I love the sound when you walk on it .. I think that is eventually where I am heading .. this would be an interesting topic to gather some thoughts on !
