Heuchera 'Geisha's Fan'

I usually don't let my heucheras flower too long. I have them for foliage rather than flowers .. same thing with hosta really. I know there are other gardeners out there that gasp over such coldheartedness .. but it really just comes down to what you prefer in your own garden. There are no set rules to follow with this subject .. so you can make your own .. depending on what kind of a day you are having .. if you have called a lot of pest control companies and your hubby is out golfingggggggggg ........... I was typing so hard here I think I almost went through the key board ....................... ahhhhh .. what was I talking about ... yes .. heuchera .. I have a weakness for the dark marbled type .. and this one flower stalk seemed to beg leaving it alone .. so I have .. until tomorrow .. depending on what kind of a mood I am in and with what responses to those ................................. sorry ........................... the raccoon thing ........ ok ... well ... there you are ... Geisha's Fan

What a day you've had! First the raccoon...I just had a brainstorm. My father-in-law used to plant lots of sweet corn here, but the raccoons used to get into it. Somewhere he read that playing a very loud radio in the field would scare the raccoons away. Maybe you could put a radio or CD player up in your attic with some very LOUD rap or hip-hop music?? Of course, that won't help your sleep:)

That is a gorgeous heuchera--if it were mine, I'd definitely ooh and aah over the flower.
Glad to see the Petite Monarda--I just planted a few this year, but they've only grown about an inch since then! I was hoping they would eventually attract the hummingbirds and butterflies.

My heuchera looks pathetic. I don't know what's wrong with it. I too would rather have the foliage. Much more interesting texture.

The only flowers I allow anyone to pick/cut are the Hosta. Funny how no one wants them.

Golfing while the house is being invaded? Then speaking at the wrong time. Sounds like the man of the house needs to go fishing. That red light on your dashboard must be a reflection off your eyes :)

I'm not one of those who derives pleasure from others' misfortunes, but, Joy, I laughed out loud when you described how hard you were typing on the keyboard.

Love the Heuchera.

I'm the same way with Heucheras. Very few of them do I allow to flower for very long. I just don't like the flowers! 'Firefly' is one that I do like though, because the color is so vibrant.

'Geisha's Fan' really does have leaves that are more fan-like, doesn't it? Pretty!

Your pictures are so pretty. What is that tiny, pale leaf on the far right of the second photo? Is it a fern leaf? I have a few heuchera planted with a Japanese painted fern.

That's an unusually beautiful heuchera, Joy - I think I should leave the flowerstalk, if / were you... Such pretty flowers...

Aunt Debbie .. I know you made a comment but I lost you girl .. don't know how .. but hey, I'll take your advice in hand about letting it flower ? LOL Thanks !

Katarina .. I think I will have to leave it too .. it is one of the prettier flowers from this heuchera and it goes through all that effort ? LOL

Marnie .. thank you ! .. I think you see the lacy leaf of one of my Bleeding Hearts .. Luxuriant Bleeding Heart ? or the other one that has a more blue green tint (can't remember the name, but it is gorgeous) .. ferns and heucheras are wonderful together .. I have lots in the front garden .. so a BIG yes ! to that one : )

Kylee you have me curious about Firefly now .. I'm going to have to look it up and put it on my wish list now ? LOL
Wow .. now that is a vibrant RED !

Jared .. my lap top is not even a year old and it looks like it has been in a war zone .. hahaha .. yes, I would laugh too .. so feel free .. just be glad you live far away ? LOL

Wiseacre .. remember you don't live that FAR AWAY from ME ? .. LOL
The man of the house does fish .. he has a nice boat .. because I'm a NICE wife ? LOL
The raccoon is making me more crazy than usual .. so that red light .. well too true about the glint in my eyes ? LOL

Hi Gail .. I am so wrapped and warped ? by this raccoon problem I don't know if I am coming or going .. probably BOTH !! haha
I will always have a weakness for heucheras I think .. Silver Scrolls was my first love .. then all these others followed and more to come ? LOL

Brenda .. my garden is going to go downhill fast with this heat and humidity and lack of a drip hose system still .. so you are not alone girl !

Thanks Rose ! .. your idea sounds great but I think we will let the new raccoon catcher guy go up in the attic and deal with 'it" ? LOL
My PD Monarda was small the first year too .. so hang in there .. this year it multiplied and is bigger, so it just needs a little time .. I love the fragrance of bee balm .. that and anise hyssop : )

Cindee .. you have to have heucheras in the garden girl ! Silver Scrolls is a great starter if you don't have any .. let me know what you do have ? : )
