Browns and Blacks of My Garden

I lost track of time with my gorgeous Pinky Winky flower heads .. I wanted to cut them in their prime of total PINKNESS ! .. but I missed the boat and here they are in their total BROWNESS .. some how they are still very interesting to me .. quite remarkable in fact : )
Ok .. beige'y browny kind of combo with the grass heads .. avert your eyes from the ugly water down spot .. scary ain't it ?

Glorious and rather "grainy" looking Goatsbeard .. I think they are actually pretty for winter interest .. come Spring I hack them back with no mercy .. so for now they heave a sigh of relief !

Anise Hyssop .. one of my first true loves in this garden. I still smother as much of its scent in my hands when it is in its prime ... fennel is a very close second to it : )

Purple Flame grass seeds held in those gossamer faned heads .. just amazing with so many potential baby grasses ..
I hate to say I have a brown rosebud but .. there it is .. a little too late to bloom. Still eye catching .. it is from Angel Face , one of my favorite roses.

I'm sure you all recognize baptisia .. I couldn't resist cracking open one of the seed pods .. heaven knows I am a total kid with having to shake them and laugh ... simple minds ??

There is nothing more "black on black" with rudbeckia and echinacea ... you gotta' love them for that final bang of the season.

The brown rose is still stunningly beautiful. I've never seen hyssop growing, it's very pretty!

Browns and blacks are gorgeous in the garden too.

Crafty .. I think so too ! .. the textures are amazing because you aren't preoccupied by stunning colour .. so it offsets it just right !

Hi Nola .. Thank you girl ! .. you should see the hyssop when it is that beautiful blue through most of the season .. this brown colour actually sets off the texture of the flower heads .. so many tiny details to it .. it amazes me : )

It's so neat what you're able to find when you broaden your definition of beauty. Probably 999 people out of a thousand would never have given that rosebud a second glance, but now you've immortalized it. You have some lovely seedheads too - especially the anise hyssop and the goatsbeard. Thanks for sharing them!

Love them all!
Very cool pics.
I can't find my foamflower.
Brown is one of my favorite colors even in the garden...it's nature.

Don't you just love the way some plants age gracefully into that brown shade! I always leave my hydrangea blossoms on Limelight to age. They look interesting in the winter especially if we get any snow. Your garden has aged beautifully Joy!

Some of the photos almost look artificial in their brownness. I think they're rather pretty myself.

It is that time of year!
We of course are in flames and grey ash, but that's our seasons for you!

Cat .. it really is a mess over there. I'm sorry to see that. Hope it straightens out and the air quality improves SOON !

Hi Brenda .. I thought the same thing as I shot the pictures .. artificial looking yet so pretty too !

Hello there PG ! .. I wish I could say the same thing for myself ? haha .. but yes .. it is rather graceful still : )

Patsi .. may be your foam flower packed its bags and went on vacation ? LOL .. yup ! brown is a natural shde in the garden : )

Thank you Nan ! .. I think taking pictures of the garden has made me look closer at everything now .. I see so much more detail and potential .. it is a wonderful gift photography has given me : )

Beautiful photos, Joy! That picture of the purple flame grass is a prize-winner:) My garden is mostly brown and black now, too; thanks for reminding me there is beauty to be found in that as well.

Rose .. I think we go through a "withdrawal" period when the punch of colour is taken away from us in our gardens .. that the down time is really happening and winter is coming for sure. But I have to say, when you have a lot of different plants, it can be really pretty because they are so different .. glad you like them !

Joy,

I love this post and have to chuckle because I wanted to write one very similar...you and I know we are great minds thinking alike....frost keeps threatening and still it doesn't arrive...but how much longer can we put it off! Right now I have my way back of the subaru housing a few plants that I want to put in the ground but not today! I am going to march out there right now and plant them! See you dear!

Gail .. have you put your babies to bed in the garden yet ???? The last plants seem to be the hardest to satisfy .. haha
I beat you to the punch with this post ? LOL .. YES .. great minds turn over ideas much alike ? .. turn over dust bunnies in my case : )
We had a very frosty morning .. bits of snow threatening .. it is coming there is no backing out now !
Good luck with those garden kids .. you have me curious as to what new ones they are ?

Loved this, Joy! There is such beauty in all of nature, in every season. Your plumes, flower and seed heads (especially Baptisia) are awesome. Nice tribute to the end of the season. ~ Deb
