The Secret Life of Clouds

I am a sky watcher .. an ouch of guilt for not actually joining the "Skywatch" bloggers. I really mean to get to that ... soon !
I complain about being surrounded by houses .. not beautiful vistas of fields or woods.
BUT .. I have the sky .. to a certain horizon .. and I do appreciate that !
The life of clouds that I have seen here has been remarkable .. some oddly severe weather can whip up amazing clouds. Even on what I think are normal days .. the clouds can still be fascinating.
So this is just a cloud post .. click on the pictures to see the larger images ..

Lastly .. just a nice almost clear blue sky after a morning of visiting ? clouds.

I'm a sky watcher too and have a few photos on today's post about the November blahs. Today the sky is just plain dull, oh well, tomorrow morning will bring something different.

I have lived in flatland before and it was all about the sky reminiscent of a child's Crayola drawing with a narrow line of grass or dirt across the bottom and the rest sky. Love the clouds.

You have more of a vista than I do. I once tried to drive out to an open area to catch a sunset, but by the time I arrived, there wasn't much left. Just silhouettes of trees and a pale pink afterglow.

Lovely cloud pictures. It is quite amazing what you see "up there" when you start watching the clouds.

Beautiful sky photos! I've just started taking some sky shots this week, trying to understand how to best use my camera.

The way we feel changes when we look up to the skys and it's clouds. Why is that?

Hello there Amy : )
Do you know I have never really read my manual YET ?! .. I have to do that .. the sky is amazing to me .. I get so much enjoyment watching it .. trying to capture some of the action .. it is always mysterious to me.

Hello Karen .. isn't it so enticing ? .. and how it changes so quickly .. that is the key .. just keep snapping away and I still get very different aspects of it .. I'm glad I have my patch of sky to watch : )

Hello patientgardener : )
I made them myself ! wink wink

Hello Kanak
Thank you so much ! .. there are quite a few of us enthralled with the sky and clouds : )

Hello "jeallyfishbay" : )
I just read your post with Ash and your visitors in the garden .. that was wonderful !
I can imagine the disappointment with not catching the sunset after driving to find the perfect spot.
I am a "Twilight" lover .. it brings out an element in me that only comes out for that moment. Inexplicable .. it hides in me until that special time .. : )

Hi Donna .. isn't it amazing what we can remember as kids and draw starkly .. concentrate on just those amazing features that we see.
Flat land .. it must be stunning to watch a sunset .. and actually set on that horizon !

Hi Crafty .. isn't today a typical November day ? .. warmer than normal .. but that dull sky and rain .. months ahead of us yet girl .. I have to check your post out !

Patsi .. I think you are very right .. I'm not sure if it has to do with how reflective we are at the time .. what is going on in our lives .. I do look every day though .. and it never changes that some sky and cloud, truly just outright grabs me .. and I have to take a photo of it ..

The clouds were just beautiful here the other day. A real mix of blues and whites, like whipped cream in the sky.

I love to skywatch too! I went to join Skywatch once, and thought I could barely keep up with other groups I belong to, so I'll just enjoy the sky on my own. As a matter of fact, I have some pretty sunset shots to post soon. I think autumn has the best sunsets, don't you? I often drive out into the country to get a better view, but it's a short trip, so I don't mind.

Gorgeous photos, I love the backlit cloud, almost pearlescent, in its glow. I have only a sliver of sky to view. But we do make the most of it. And we could run up to the deck, stir ourselves from our nest, and take photos.

Living in a very flat country like I do, it's impossible not to notice the sky as it is very much in your face. Many an old Dutch Master painter were very good at painting skies. Your pics reminded me of their vast skies on canvas.

Hello Yolanda .. Thank you for stopping by ! I remember this time of year in Holland and the build up of excitement for Xmas and Sinter Claus .. I left a note on your blog about that .. and yes .. the Dutch Masters and their paintings of that fantastic sky .. beautiful !

Thank you Gail .. I threw these clouds on at the last minute ? a little balck dress type of thing .. haha

Hi Jen .. Yes .. the back lit one was fantastic to actually see .. they were moving fast ! I laughed over thinking you guys running up to the deck .. I stand out in my PJ's and robe .. the neighborhood already knows I don't care ? haha

Hello Robin .. Yup .. I came to the same thoughts about joining .. I wouldn't be able to commit .. another phobia ? LOL
I think Autumn is spectacular for pictures in so many ways too !

Hi Brenda .. I think that is so pretty too .. the blue blue sky with whipped clouds floating by .. hey .. wait a minute .. I'm a poet and don't know it ? LOL

Absolutely beautiful, Joy! Like you, I never tire of casting my eyes skyward, for the daily show... whatever the weather. This is a wonderful sequence.

You are so right about being in the middle of suburbia... I'm always trying to find creative ways to exclude other houses and yards from my shots ~ probably another reason I so enjoy sky photos.

"Great minds think alike?" On 11/14, I posted about 14 sky shots, taken as I walked home from our local park and interspersed them with my haikus. It was one of those windy, changeable days, with the sun constantly in and out of cloud cover. Fun stuff ~ Deb

Hi Deb .. thank you ! and yes, trying to shoot away from the houses is a bit of a trick at times .. but I am fortunate with our sky : )
I have to go have a look at your sky too ! .. funny how great minds think a like eh ? LOL

So loved your cloud post and how they touch each heart. As a child, I looked up in awe ... the heavenly joy still haunts me each day.

Hi Joey .. I can't imagine NOT seeing the sky in awe of how absolutely beautiful it is. I feel tingly and so struck when I see a twilight sky that is perfect (in my mind that is ? LOL) .. clouds can be so amazing .. I have to have my camera ready when I see potential being born ? : )

I love your cloud post! I can't get enough of the sky when it comes to the clouds and/or the moon! I can certainly understand your thinking. Beautiful captures!

CanadianGardenJoy said...

Thank you so much Spookydragonfly !
You have some remarkable pictures yourself .. I love the moon shots and those fantastic snowflakes !

Yes, clouds are amazing, and just the shere range of "expressions" they have – hugem dark and scary or small, fluffy and friendly. I love that sunlight halo in your pictures.

CanadianGardenJoy said...

camellia .. you are so right ! The range is fantastic and it is funny how our perception changes with each kind .. spot on girl ! .. I never just "look" at the sky , clouds, moon etc ... I adore them all : )
