Snowy Grasses

You really have to double click on some of these pictures to get the full affect of the delicate clear glass ice coating some of these grasses have .. mother nature is a perfectionist if nothing else with some of her wintry touches.
This is a Blue Fescue grass with slender fingers poking out still.
Purple Flame grass miscanthus with individual stalks frozen in time ...
Hamlin fountain grass strikes me as just plain cute with it's curly hairs all askew .. like a bad hair day ?
It seems to be more alive than the rest of the plants around it because of the colour .. beige is more lively than blackish green ? or is that greenish black ?
When this picture uploaded .. it just struck me like a giant mother spider and her baby spider next to her. In reality it is Karly Rose fountain grass with a bronze sedge .. but how cute can it be ?

It is very delicate looking. Like the grasses were dipped in paraffin or something. Beautiful on a wintry day. So glad you can find something to enjoy in the now all but colorless gardens of winter!

I'm loving your snow photos--the grasses and the fennels are really striking poking up out of all the white. As I clean up my garden, I notice its relatively flat--I think I need more grasses, as your post reminds me--really pretty pictures!

They do lovely with their icy plumes and snow covered middles. The last photo does look like a couple of spiders, lol

These are lovely photos. I love grasses - and the more I see of them - the more convinced I am that you can never have too many! :)

Your garden is a beautiful place, even under snow and ice.

Icy and frosty grasses make for a beautiful photo! It was 22°C here yesterday afternoon...it's now -5°C! Brr. What a change. But there's a bit of snow in the air, nothing serious, just enough to make it look Christmasy.

Hi Tyra .. my goodness ! You don't have snow there ? .. wow, I thought of all places you would have some girl : )

Nancy .. good grief ! what a swing in temps .. is that a record breaker ? .. we saw a bad weather front headed your way .. hope you are all tucked in over there girl : )

Tina .. Thanks girl ! .. it is going to get so boring though .. much more winter to get through here .. hope cabin fever isn't too bad ? haha

Cameron .. thank you ! .. it is amazing when you look close up to the coating of ice .. all the wild flowers and grasses that were blown in by the city along the roadsides look amazing too !

Amy .. YES girl !! You too will come to love them .. Karl Foerster is a feather reed grass and very easy .. this nursery is Canadian and out west .. have a look at the site where I started Karl off for you http://www.bluestem.ca/calamagrostis-karl-foerster.htm
You are bound to see some you will love !

Darlene .. I would send you some in the mail girl .. but you know how it is .. all that leaking might look suspicious ? haha

Hi Karen .. How true is that !! I am going to be looking for more this coming season too .. I am a fan : )

PG ! I'm so glad some one else can see that too ! .. it really did make me chuckle when I saw the two together : )

Cosmo .. grass really do add another dimension to the garden .. and there are so many different kinds .. you could actually do a separate "grass garden" ! : )

Hi Brenda .. it is a bit of a reach .. but yes ! they do look amazing don't they ? .. and dipped is really the right way to see them ! : )

I just love the look of iced grasses, like they were carved out of glass or something. You must have had one of those wonderful rain snow mixes.

Hi Cinj .. yup ! that type of weather is becoming more and more common here .. so far we have escaped the nasty one that hit the American seaboard area .. that was like our 1998 storm .. just plain awful !
