Let the COLOUR Begin !!

Ok .. time for the colour to snap your eyes out of your head time !
...... and a quick lesson in what not to do in photography 101 ? eeekkkk !
First set of photos .. just a couple of streets away from our house .. an amazing magnificent tree I have watched for 11 years and finally captured with new mini me camera : )
Pretty darn good right ?? .. perfect time .. mid morning .. sun illuminating but not beating the poor tree over the head .. or me for that matter??

Now for a lesson I already know about yet try to defeat each Fall ...
Do NOT take pictures when sun is at its most brilliant and fades the natural colours from scenes like this .. I did this beautiful area no justice .. yet I have to post them to publicly shame myself and my poor photographic "judgement" of the day ... go figure ... I could have split this post up and hidden my errors but if I help another photographer remember basic 101 ? I feel redeemed some what??
These pictures were taken on the way to Westport a little town outside of Kingston about 40 minutes away.

The water is so beautiful it almost makes up for my lack of ... skills ? wink wink

Tom Thomson one of the "Group of Seven" associates but not a member artist of the actual group,( from what I have run across on the web .. who knows the real deal ?) is a favorite of mine ... when I saw this little rock island it reminded me of his painting "Byng Inlet" Georgian Bay
... and of course I have to end this post with a bit of Halloween ..
It just wouldn't be right if I didn't !!

Joy, your colors look great. I have noticed they are much more intense this year. I had better get out there with my camera.

Sorry that I've been away so long.

Very nice collection of rich colour scenes, Joy. Hope it's a happy Thanksgiving for you!

Well girl, we've found something we don't share - fall colours. I grew up in eastern Canada and miss them terribly. Here in the west the colours are quite dull, to say the least. People talk about the fall colours (shades of yellow), but it isn't anywhere near the same. Sigh. I'll just have to enjoy yours...

Great job capturing those gorgeous colors! New camera? What'd you get?

Gorgeous photos! I love the fall colours as well (love seeing the u as well! lol)
I so agree about Tom Thomson. I love his work. The last photo would make a wonderful painting.
Thanks for stopping by!
(I went to Carleton way back when for university - stayed 3 years and loved Ottawa!)

I think you did great with the pictures! Those maples are just blazing with color - and that little island is a cool feature too. I'll have a post up this Friday with all the week's links! Thanks for joining in the Fall Colour Project!

Hello Eileen girl : ) and thank you!
Our "reds" are slower to show themselves but the last two nights it has been COLD and a frost has happened so the scarlets should be beaming soon !

Cameron girl how are you!
Hey I have been slow getting to blogs myself girl so I'm also on the naughty list ? haha
I should be taking more trips out along the roadside to capture the really RED leaves .. but today is one of those "slug" days ;-)

Jodi girl hello there!
Hope your Thanksgiving weekend has been restful ? for you : ) .. The weather here has been perfect so I really should be catching more colour ... turkey days has slowed me down ? hehehe

Rebecca : ) Hey hope Thanksgiving is going well for you girl!
I feel for you about missing these Fall colours .. I felt that way for 4 years while we lived in Holland .. their colours were like yours out west, no BANG ! I'll try and get more "drama" for you girl!LOL

Aerie-el girl how are ya'!
I did get a really small camera lately to tuck in my purse for moments when I say "DARN it!
I don't have a camera with me!" it is a Casio EX-H10 .. I'll do a post on my cameras because I know I am always interested in what cameras other bloggers use too!

Ms S .. Tom has been a love of mine and to find something a little similar to his awesome art was a thrill .. I knew as I was shooting this that it had ties that I would bind to a post with him in it : )
I have a calendar already to go for 2011 with his works .. it will look wonderful when I finally get my OFFICE !! hehehe

Thank you Beverley girl!
I can't think of anyone that doesn't love "Tom" : ) You really feel the wildness in his art .. so beautiful ! Hey .. I wonder if we were going to Carleton at the same time ?? LOL .. We moved to Ottawa 1969 when I was 12 .. we were there during the FLQ Crises .. now that was one tense time ! But Autumn was gorgeous there : )

Dear Dave
Thank you : ) We are actually moving on to more intense colours with the really cold nights and light frosts lately .. I need to get out and catch more colours : )

Joy, your photos are gorgeous! Isn't this long weekend just glorious? I have to get out and snap some photos as the leaves change colours. Can't miss autumn when it's as fabulous as this one.

oooooo now i can't WAIT for fall to hit us down here!!! We still have green trees with just a hint of orange creeping out. Anyday now I expect to see these colors. I'm jealous but excited for you...getting to see such beautiful landscapes and colors. You'll have to take me on a tour next time I'm up.

Wow, you area is bright. We still have a few trees mostly green. Don't feel bad, Joy, we all just have to shoot when we see a beautiful scene.

I love the reflections in the lake Joy ... wonderful photos. Tom Thompson died before the actual formation of the Group of Seven, but his work was very influencial on the others, whom he was very good friends with. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Hello Martha girl !
I owe you another e-mail conversation : ) LOL .. It was gorgeous Saturday and so many people on the road too .. I am waiting for less traffic and to go about a few places to see if I can get more RED ! Yes .. this weather has been wonderful but now I worry is it the calm before the storm ? haha

Linda girl : ) Do you get the vibrant deep colours we do ? Some Autumns the wind and rain drive the leaves off before we catch them so you can never tell what is going to happen .. we have had extraordinary weather for now .. fingers crossed for the rest of the month and then it can do what it wants ? haha

Sandy ! LOL .. You are BAD ! .. I have to test out this little pocket camera a bit more .. it actually has a dedicated setting for "Autumn Leaves" pretty neat eh !

Linda I wish I had done more research on Tom .. his death was rather mysterious I take it .. some what the tortured artist people have said. I just fell in love with the wildness in his paintings .. he and Emily Carr are my favorites .. those brush strokes remind me of Van Gogh !

You captured the essence of Fall beautifully here.

Tom Thompson is also my favourite of the Group of Seven -- I particularly love his autumn paintings. I think your fall colour photos are wonderful, Joy -- the overhead light didn't spoil a thing. :)

So stunning and who cares about the rules - they're made to be broken!!
Gorgeous work - you are a fine photographer my lady :)

Ours is exactly the same... if the weather is mild in the fall, the leaves are GORGEOUS!! But if the wind and rain hit at just the right time, they are gone before they can shine. Sounds like we are all having nice autumns right now, so let's cross all our fingers and toes and hope we get some fantastic shots before winter settles in. :)

Hello Darla girl ! Thank you : ) I admired your garden plant pictures to the max : )very pretty indeed !

Nancy girl thank you !
I was just thinking again today as we were driving to do errands that the perfect time is between 9:30 and 11:30 .. the sun just seems to be perfect for really showing off the colours at that angle. Yes ! TT was such an amazing artist he died way too early .. he just scratch the surface of his talent I think ;-)

Carrie girl thank you : ) you are very sweet to me : ) I so love the look of your new home! it is gorgeous and I know you will have the inside looking so beautiful too .. the last bits and pieces take so long to finish it seems but it will be done and you will be snug in there for the winter ! Enjoy : )

Hey there Linda : ) Some years the weather is absolutely stunning and then other years look out for that wind and rain .. so far so good with what we are having and I hope it lasts as long as possible !!!

You were mentioning my WV code...what's that? lol Do you mean my 'captcha' words? Are they funny or something? lol :D

Um, and when talking about not being able to make YouTube conform within the small frame of your post area...all I do is when I'm picking an embeddable video, I click 'embed'. Then I custom-make the size of my frame...I always put '350' in the width box, and then that automatically changes the embed code which I then copy and paste :) I'm thinking this is what you were asking? lol Took me forever to figure out how to do that on YouTube. It was so frustrating that the video would be cut off on the right side.

Hi Joy, There's those delicious photos again. Such a beautiful photo-op you had that day. You did a great job depicting the beauty surrounding you.

Wow your area is so beautiful now with it's fall colors. I really need to visit Canada sometime in the future. :)

Kyna girl thanks again for the "brain WAKE UP" drill giggle snort giggle .. I was in such a DUH mode it was embarrassing .. but I have mastered that bit now and love having the CCD on my sidebar with a decidedly Halloween theme music !! : )

Grace I am glad to have gotten these snaps (thank you !) but it makes you hungry for MORE ! So I am wondering if I can get out again this morning when my head is on straight ! ;-)

Racquel girl (oops red faced for absenteeism on your blog girl ;-)
It is a wonderful time that we have to grab straight away because you just don't know what the weather will be like from day to day .. thanks girl ... come on up ! LOL
