The Last few Day's Plants

I'm stuck .... you know how you plod along thinking "Ok .. I haven't won the lottery (yet .. some how you always think there is hope .. and believe me I have no grand schemes .. just to help family members and some friends out and enjoy a BIG wonderful garden that I can get a lot of help with ? wink wink) ..
Life is alright .. then it seems like bit by bit things start to drag you down .. and you are almost waiting to hear the BIG shoe drop.
So what do you do ? .. If I am able .. I putter in the garden .. flaming night wear in early morning and all .. dragging the hose around .. listening to the birds chattering at me .. waiting for me to finish so they can play in the birdbath and check for bugs disturbed by the watering .. heck ! if I was a bird I would do the same thing!
Point of this post ? .. absolutely nothing ... so here are some pictures to top the babble off.

A happy bee ... I have more hyssop this year .. one that was mislabeled .. yes, I am steamed about THAT!
But hey .... at least the bees are happy and I can live with it.

These pictures don't do this new buddleia justice .."Peach Cobbler" is really really pretty and I am very glad it is surviving this horrible weather .. so straight away I can see it will stand up to our weird weather.

The "Susans" are what carry the garden right now .. if it weren't for them it would be so dull and sad looking.
In the above picture there is "southern bush honeysuckle" and another new plant which has already flowered and was gorgeous "veronicastrum Fascination" a beautiful light lavender colour and a butterfly magnet .. I have the native white version for some years and it just keeps getting better and better .. so I hope this one will follow suit as well !

Just some pretty daylilies ....

Joe Pye and his friend peeking from behind him ....
I guess this is it for now .... I did some quick watering this morning because some of my Susans were down in the mouth .. so hopefully they will stay happy for another day or two.
Mean while I balance on that green ball trying to make sure my garden gets through this year of the heat and drought .... yes, it could always be worse ... BIG sigh !
Have I mentioned there are only 92 days until Halloween ???

As long as you can get out and enjoy your garden life is good. Your garden looks quite nice right now. :)

There is a moment when we gardeners seem to lose all hope, and almost cry with despair at the hot weather. You've reached it, and bypassed it now. Take heart, there will be subtle changes to the weather from now on. Notice I said SUBTLE, not obvious...lol.

Winter's coming, tell yourself that when you are doused in sweat, and exhausted from watering. Oh am I not a happy gardener...oh Joy! LOL.

Good morning Joy girl. I love your new Butterfly bush. How pretty and of course I always love those lilies. I hate getting those plants that are mislabeled too. So exasperating when you have this color scheme going on and then you get this plant that just messed it all up for you. LOL! Have a great week.

You said it Joy, only 92 days until Halloween and cool weather. Your garden still looks pretty fresh, love that daylily.

Joy, your garden is beautiful! Look at all those flowers. It's been a real struggle this year with all the drought we've faced, so it's surprising that anything has managed to stay alive, never mind bloom. Not all my plants did well. There are a few - mostly young or newly planted - that I'm almost certain won't make it. I suppose it could have been worse. I hope to have an email out to you soon for an update on my end.

Thank you Lona girl : )
I have a lot of BLUE hyssop now when I was so interested in the reddish one I thought I was getting .. mumble mumble ... we had rain again .. it is like a bloody miracle .. fingers crossed for more!

Eileen girl it can't come fast enough for me .. I have to relocate plants and I don't want to do that while it is so darn hot .. roll on Halloween ! haha

Martha girl , I too have put in younger plants that are struggling .. plus relocated plants that had to work their roots in .. I am paying almost no attention to the front garden but work has to be done there ... time to make LISTS !

Joy, I know I'm having a bad day when I'm buying lottery tickets with a glint in my eye. Time for a break. Your garden has managed beautifully despite the lack of water. I just spent several hours yesterday carrying bucket after bucket, the new transplants are looking a bit wilty. Like you I'm waiting for cooler autumn weather to try any real work in the garden.

I totally agree with you Joy about how tiring & trying this summer has been. My favorite time of the year and yet it hasn't been as enjoyable because of the extreme heat & drought conditions. I can't be lazy & not water either ~ everything would shrivel up in these temperatures if I took a day off! I do a happy dance every time we've gotten a sprinkle (which is about all we've gotten)
Excited for Halloween too!
ps LOVE that lavender veronicastrum. I only have the white but is there a pink too???

oh I forgot to say that Buddleia is GORGEOUS!!!

OMG Marguerite if I had to carry buckets that would be the end of my garden .. I really feel for you with that way of watering .. you need a break for sure and I hope your holiday is a great one girl !

Kathleen girl there are two more .. Lavender Towers and Pink Glow veronicastrum .. tall (4 to 6')and gorgeous and I think I will be getting both next year to take over the areas where other plants just go into weep mode with the heat etc .. this new one I have flowered for its first year .. it isn't as tall as the others but it is beautiful!!
I am loving this new buddliea too .. it is a large one so I am hoping it will really fill this space .. I am trying to switch to plants that aren't babies in this new weather because I don't think we will be going backwards to temperate weather any more ;-(

Lovely photos, as usual. Your garden looks beautiful in spite of the heat and dryness. My father's old garden used to have lots of brown-eyed susans growing in it "wild" - they planted themselves, but they were too pretty to pull out as weeds!

Hello there RP !
Comments have been falling behind and I have to remember to look for them .. Blogger can drive me bonkers.
I saw those pictures of your garden and you have some gorgeous plants there .. I love your stone pathway .. I so want one in my garden too.
Yes .. the rudbeckia even in a wild state are too beautiful to think they are weeds : )
