Heated Bird Bath .. for the birds?

Last Spring we ran across a heated bird bath on sale at one of our little (as in NOT big box store) stores here .. it was a great price and I always wanted to have one for the birds because our winters are usually so cold and dry now.
So husband put it up on the deck railing on one of the windiest days we have had in a long time .. if it survived THAT it would survive just about any weather .. and it did !
You had the option of putting it up that way or on its stand .. I like that you had options !
In any case it has been up now for a couple of days .. the water has not frozen .. and we are headed into deep freeze weather meaning -26 with wind chill .. so I hope the birds and other little life forms that need a drink .. figure out that it is HERE for them to use !!

It is plastic so it is very durable and easy to clean .. low voltage so it won't make a huge "bump" in the electric bill .. now we just have to wait and see when the wild life will clue in ?

If I were a bird, I'd definitely be visiting for a little drink. And maybe a bath. This is sweet. I'm glad John didn't blow away when installing it. :)

Take care and stay warm.

Hook it up and they will come. What bird, racoon or possum could pass up such luxury during winter.??

That's cute ! I was thinking of getting one but we live very close to a river and have seen the little birdies drink from that , at least I know they are able to get water but may get one anyways . Hope they enjoy their new heated bird bath ! Have a good day !

If I were a little bird I'd take a bath in that cute little spa. My birds are coveting your heated bird bath, Joy.

I've been using a heated bird bath for about 10 years now and keep it up year round - I just unplug it in the summer and plug it back in in the winter. Once the birds discover what you did for them, they will be all over it.

The weather this week Joy!! I thought it was cold today and then the weatherman says the really cold temperatures are still to come! Those birdies are going to be utterly thrilled when they find there's warm water to bath in, they'll be having mini hot tub parties in no time.

I discovered that there is some concern that birds who bathe in these heated units may suffer from frozen feathers or loss of tail feathers when temperatures drop. I watched European Starlings after a bath with frozen feathers unable to fly. I recommend weaving a layer of sticks over the bath to allow birds to drink, but not to bathe.

Hello there Jill girl !
Wow .. I didn't know they have been around so long .. the birds haven't gotten to it yet .. we keep watching and waiting with fingers crossed;-)

Marguerite girl it is -24 with -34 as a wind chill factor this morning so we have reached our deep freeze temps .. I feel sorry for anything out there .. but there is very little wind thankfully .. waiting for the birds to clue in still!
Maybe they need tiki torches? and some music ?

Thank you guild-rez for your recommendation I will take it under consideration .. I would not want something bad to happen from something I intended to be beneficial.
