Missing October ......

October ... where did you go ? ..... it is my favorite month and yet I let you slip through my fingers.
The stunning flash of colours that thrill me .... such as my little Autumn Brilliance serviceberry.
The junior Tiger Eye Sumac that is like a beacon of light in the back garden .. you spot it from any where ..  behind the massive baptisia with it's black rattles poking straight up.
Even while blurred, it steals the show
The massive "giant grass" is truly giant this year and flowering to boot !
Who knew these mop heads would be so pretty waving in the breeze.
The Porcelain Berry vine ... berries eaten promptly by the birds who may already know this coming winter is going to be harsh, according to the Farmer's Almanac that is.
This vine can be a bit of a monster so beware if you are lusting after the gorgeous berries.
A wonderful surprise is a delicate thalictrum still flowering ... thank you !
The almost shocking deep rose of Little Lamb hydrangea ... perfection !
I am holding on to the hope that this new Harlequin buddleia will make it through the predicted harsh winter and bloom for me next year.
Once again my beautiful sumac ...the colours I adore for Autumn.
I dedicate this post to my sister who died far too young at the age of 50, of colon cancer ..
Her birthday is tomorrow and it will be a sad day to get through, but I want to remember the happier times we shared as kids.
We both loved October and the thrill of Halloween .. I am thinking of you Leah.

Oh- I hear you about missing your sister this time of year. I know the heartache. Your garden is beautiful and, like you, October has stolen away from me leaving me wanting more. It has been that kind of year. You did get some beautiful pictures, though!!! xo Diana

Wow, your Tiger Eye Sumac is stunning, Joy. I also liked deep pink color of autumnal hydrangea, very pretty. I see you love all your plants in October and the holiday that is coming - Halloween. It's true, October is colorful month but just flies..

Hello stranger, hope all is well. Seems like ages since you last post or maybe I just missed a few. Anywho, The Tiger Eye Sumac is something I could use in the yard...been lacking that autumn color. Loving the light purpleish mopheads. Oh and the Hydrangea is a keeper, shame I have no luck with them. Nice to see you post again.

I should post a picture of my tiny sumac. It is only about 6inches tall. ha..It is acting like yours though in that it has turned beautiful colors. I thought about you the other day. Wondering if you were excited about Halloween coming up. Have fun...in memory of your Sister.

Thinking of you. I know the birthdays/anniversary's/holidays are the worst when someone you love is missing.
I hope you are able to enjoy your beautiful sanctuary with all the glorious colors! I am enjoying seeing your pictures!
Some colors here as well. I am trying to look forward to Spring...(-: Winter is so boring with no flowers! I may have to buy flowers to put in the house to get me through the ho hums of winter(-:

That Sumac is just stunning! We have one in the Nursing Home Garden where I volunteer, and it is a showstopper in the fall. I think you were the one who first made me aware of how gorgeous these are, Joy. A friend gave me one recently, but it's still in its pot while I try to figure out the best place for it. I guess I had better make up my mind, because October isn't going to last much longer! My condolences on your sister; 50 is much too young indeed. Your garden is looking beautiful, and I hope you get to enjoy it for several more weeks.

I hope you're still having nice weather so you can enjoy your garden. Taking your mind off other things such as your sister's death and that dreaded "creature" blasting the airwaves to your south. You know what I mean! :) We've had tons of rain here so the garden looks like crap but it hasn't stopped me from going to plant sales and spending say 60 bucks on a car load of goodies. Who can resist? Email is coming. Love and hugs.

It must be hard to keep October as a favourite month when it has such a sad anniversary. 50! So young! You must miss your sister so. I am glad you have happy memories to help with your loss.
I hope the new Butterfly Bush makes it through the winter. Love that variegated foliage! My husband calls the Sumac trees, that sprout up all over the garden long after the Mommy tree was cut down, "Jurassic Park" trees. They do have a prehistoric look to them. And their fall color is spectacular. I must get the kind you have Joy that doesn't spread everywhere.
My Porcelain Vine disappeared mysteriously. No idea why. I found the Japanese Beetles loved it, so I haven't replaced it. The berries are really neat though.

Hi Joy! Your October is fast flying but still beautiful! I can't believe your Thalictrum is still blooming! Maybe, mine is different (T.rochebrunianum). All The Best

Hello Tatyana and thanks for stopping by .. I have two types of thalictrum in the garden(right now .. who knows what will happen with winter !) .. one is your type and one is Thalictrum delavayi 'Splendide' which grows so tall it is stunning .. but this is the first time it has bloomed so late in the season, just a perk for a strange year I guess ? LOL

Beautiful! All of it! How hard to lose someone so young. My parents died in their 50's, too, and it took a long time to get over their deaths. Peace to you, my friend!

Thank you for stopping by OE .. I am meaning to answer your post question soon myself !
October is such a cascade of different emotions for me and it is such a benchmark of beauty from my garden to the gorgeous trees that change colour.
Yes ... it is amazing !! : )

Tammy girl hello there ... that must have been so traumatic for you to lose your parents so early .. I am so sorry. I never got a chance to reconnect with my sister .. long heart breaking story ... but I hope to come to terms with it some day .. thank you !
